  • Limestone slag cement is a green and sustainable building material with huge market potential. However, its shortcoming of low early compressive strength needs to be improved. A method of using aluminum sulfate to improve the early strength of ternary mixed mortar was proposed, and its effect and optimal dosage were tested. Macroscopic properties such as mechanical properties and surface electrical resistivity were measured at different dosages (0%, 1%, 2%, 3%). The microstructure and products of the mixtures were tested in detail, including by scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray diffraction. The results show aluminum sulfate enhances mechanical properties and significantly increases surface electrical resistivity. The 1% and 2% doses had no adverse effects on the 28-day mechanical properties, while the 3% dose reduced the 28-day strength. Considering the changes in mechanical properties and surface electrical resistivity, 1% aluminum sulfate is the optimal dosage.

  • NiO thin films were deposited by radio frequency magnetron sputtering on glass substrates. The processing variables of the oxygen content, sputtering power, and pressure were varied to investigate the electrical properties and surface morphology of NiO films. It was found that the resistivity of NiO films at $1.22{\times}10^2{\Omega}cm$ (2.5% $O_2$ in Ar gas) was greatly reduced to$ 2.01{\times}10^{-1}$ ${\Omega}cm$ (100% oxygen) under a typical sputtering condition of 6 mTorr and 200 watts. In an effort to observe the resistivity variances, the sputtering power was varied from 80 to 200 watts at 6 mTorr with 100% $O_2$. However, the resistivity of the NiO films changed in the range of $10^{-1}-10^{-2}$ ${\Omega}cm$. The dependence on the sputtering power was therefore found to be weak in this experiment. When the sputtering pressure was changed from 3 to 60 mTorr at 200 watts with 100% $O_2$, the resistivity of the NiO films showed the lowest value of $5.8{\times}10^{-3}$ ${\Omega}cm$ at 3 mTorr, which is close to that of commercial ITO films (${\sim}10^{-4}$ ${\Omega}cm$). As the sputtering pressure increased, the resistivity also increased to 4.67 cm at 60 mTorr. The surface morphology of the NiO films was also checked by Atomic Force Microscopy. It was found that the RMS surface roughness values ranged from 0.6 to 1.5 nm and thtthe dependence on the sputtering parameters was weak.

  • Resistivity changes and intermetallic growth after thermal aging of Matter tin-plated copper sheet for current collector in fuel cell were investigated to survey the diffusion of Cu into Sn in interface and surface. The results show that the intermetallic growth and resistivity depended on thermal aging temperature and dwell time. In Sn plate on a Cu substrate, $Cu_6Sn_5({\mu})$ and $Cu_3Sn({\varepsilon})$ intermetallics layer were formed at plate/substrate interface. $Cu_6Sn_5({\mu})$ intermetallics layer gradually changed $Cu_3Sn({\varepsilon})$. Moreover Cu get through Sn layer and it was diffused in the surface at $200^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, only $Cu_3Sn({\varepsilon})$ intermetallics layer were formed at plate/substrate interface at $300^{\circ}C$. Consequently, the intermetallics formation, thermal condition and oxidation of surface, causes increase in the resistivity of Tin-plated copper sheet.

  • Zinc Oxide(ZnO) thin films on Si (100) substrates were deposited by RF magnetron reactive sputtering. The characteristics of zinc oxide thin films with changing sputtering conditions such as argon/oxygen gas ratios, RF power, and substrate temperature, chamber pressure and target-substrate distance were investigated. To analyze a crystallographic properties of the films, $\theta/2{\theta}$ mode X -ray diffraction, SEM, and AFM analyses. C-axis preferred orientation, resistivity, and surface roughness highly depended on Ar/$O_2$ gas ratios. The resistivity of ZnO thin films rapidly increased with increasing oxygen ratio and the resistivity value of $9{\times}10^7\;{\Omega}cm$ was obtained at a working pressure of 10 mTorr with Ar/$O_2$=50/50. The surface roughness was also improved with increasing oxygen ratio and the ZnO films deposited with Ar/$O_2$=50/50 showed the excellent roughness value of $28.7{\AA}$.

  • In this work, we have investigated the change of surface roughness, grain size and crystallinity of Poly-$Si_{1-x}Ge_x$ films deposited with the variation of deposition parameters (temperature, pressure, Ge composition ) and the effect of these results on the electrical resistivity. The crystallinity and the grain size were increased with increasing deposition temperature and Ge composition. Also, the electrical resistivity was decreased by enhanced grain size, while the surface roughness was increased. With increasing deposition pressure, the crystallinity was increased, but the grain size and the cluster size were decreased, by which the surface roughness was decreased. And the electrical resistivity was increased. Based on the effect of the crystallinity and the grain size on the electrical resistivity, it was founded that the electrical resistivity was depend on the grain size rather than the crystallinity.

  • RuO$_2$ thin films are prepared by RF magnetron reactive sputtering and their characteristics of crystallization, microstructure, surface roughness and resistivity are studied with various $O_2$/ (Ar+O$_2$) ratios and substrate temperatures. As $O_2$/(Ar+O$_2$) ratio decreases and substrate temperature increases, the preferred growing plane of RuO$_2$ thin films are changed from (110) to (101) plane. With increase of the $O_2$/(Ar+O$_2$) ratio from 20% to 50%, the surface roughness and the resistivity of RuO$_2$ thin films increase from 2.38nm to 7.81 nm, and from 103.6 $\mu$$\Omega$-cm to 227 $\mu$$\Omega$-cm, respectively, but the deposition rate decreases from 47 nm/min to 17 nm/min. On the other hand, as the substrate temperature increases from room temperature to 500 $^{\circ}C$, resistivity decreases from 210.5 $\mu$$\Omega$-cm to 93.7 $\mu$$\Omega$-cm. RuO$_2$ thin film deposited at 300 $^{\circ}C$ shows a excellent surface roughness of 2.38 nm. As the annealing temperature increases in the range between 400 $^{\circ}C$ and 650 $^{\circ}C$, the resistivity decreases because of the improvement of crystallinity. We find that RuO$_2$ thin film deposited at 20% of $O_2$/(Ar+O$_2$) ratio and 300 t of substrate temperature shows excellent combination of surface smoothness and low resistivity so that it is well Qualified for bottom electrodes for ferroelectric thin films.

  • Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) is widely used for tunnel structures such as shotcrete and segments. Corrosion of steel fibers and steel reinforcements may affect on the long-term durability of the concrete structures with steel fibers and reinforcement. Therefore, a study on the feasible method to evaluate corrosion possibility and permeability of the concrete structures is required. This experimental study examines the effect of steel fibers and internal reinforcement on the surface resistivity. Steel fiber mix ratio and corrosion of internal reinforcement were considered as variables. In the results, steel fibers significantly reduce the surface resistivity due to those conductive characteristic. In the case of 3% mix ratio, it was difficult to evaluate rate and permeability of corrosion due to the great reduction of resistivity by mixing of steel fibers.

  • Surface states of silicone polymer treated by plasma were investigated by the analysis by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and surface voltage decay after corona charging. Plasma treatment causes the silica -like oxidative layer, which was confirmed with XPS, and lowers surface resistivity with increasing the plasma treatment time. Using the decay time constant of surface voltage, the calculated surface resistivity was compared with the value directly measured by voltage-current method using three electrodes system. A good agreement between two methods was obtained. In addition, we estimated the thermal activation energy for surface conduction, Based on our results, we could understand the relationship between surface chemical states and surface electrical properties.

  • In urban area, design and construction of civil engineering structures such as subway tunnel, underground space and deep excavation is impeded by unreliable site investigation. Variety of embedded objects, electric noises and traffic vibrations degrades the quality of site investigation, whatever the site-investigation technique would be. In this research, a preliminary research was performed to develop a dedicated site investigation technique for urban geotechnical sites, which can overcome the limitations of urban sites. HiRAS (Hybrid Integration of Surface Waves and Resistivity) technique which is the first outcome of the preliminary research was proposed in this paper. The technique combines surface wave as well as electrical resistivity. CapSASW method for surface-wave technique and PDC-R technique for electrical resistivity survey were incorporated to develop HiRAS technique. CapSASW method is a good method for evaluating material stiffness and PDC-R technique is a reliable method for determination of underground stratification even in a site with electrical noise. For the inversion analysis of HiRAS techniuqe, a site-specific relationship between stress-wave velocity and resistivity was employed. As for outgrowth of this research, the 2-D distribution of Poisson's ratio could be also determined.

  • For safety evaluation of a rock-fill dim, it is often necessary to investigate spatial distribution of weak zones such as fracture. Both DC-resistivity survey and seismic(SASW) method are usually used for the purpose. Recently, Multichannel analysis of surface waves(MASW) method which makes up for the weak point of SASW method is developed and the site examination which is simple came to be possible comparatively. In order to obtain 2-D shear-wave velocity(Vs) profile along the dam axis that can be associated with dynamic properties of filled materials, MASW method was adapted. Then, DC-resistivity survey and drilling survey were performed to compare with each results. We confirmed that the MASW method and DC-resistivity survey show complementary result that corresspond with drilling result. Therefore, MASW method is an efficient method for dynamic characterization of dam-filling materials and also the combination of related methods such as DC-resistivity can lead to an effective safety evaluation of rock-fill dam.
