  • The magnetic fluid polishing technique can polish the tool of complex shape, because the polishing method which polishes as compress the workpiece by the magnetism abrasives to arrange to the linear according to the line of magnetic force. Therefore, we producted the magnetic fluid polishing device in order that mirror like finishing processes the tool surface. In order to a polishing condition selection, polishing characteristic was estimated by polishing conditions which are magnetic flux density, polishing speed, grain size, magnetic fluid. The tool was polished to the selected polishing condition. The result to evaluate the polished tool's performance with the cutting force and tool wear, the polished tool's performance was improved compared with the tool not to polish.

천연산 석영 분말의 자성처리 특성 (Characteristics on Magnetism Treatment of Quartz Powder)

  • The materials showing high structure dispersity are developed on the natural quartz base and they are obtained by mechano-chemical technology. Depending on the processing conditions and subsequent applications the materials produced by mechano-chemical reaction (MCR) show concurrently magnetic, dielectric and electrical properties. The obtained magnetic-electrical powders classified by aggregate complex of their features as segnetomagnetics, contain a dielectric material as a carrying nucleus, particularly the quartz on that surface one or more layers of different compounds are synthesized having thickness up to $10{\sim}50nm$ and showing magnetic, electrical and other properties.

Cataclysmic Variables as Supernova Ia Progenitors

  • Although the identification of the progenitors of type Ia supernovae (SNeIa) remains controversial, it is generally accepted that they originate from binary star systems in which at least one component is a carbon-oxygen white dwarf (WD); those systems are grouped under the wide umbrella of cataclysmic variables. Current theories for SNeIa progenitors hold that, either via Roche lobe overflow of the companion or via a wind, the WD accumulates hydrogen or helium rich material which is then burned to C and O onto the WD's surface. However, the specifics of this scenario are far from being understood or defined, allowing for a wealth of theories fighting for attention and a dearth of observations to support them. I discuss the latest attempts to identify and study those controversial SNeIa progenitors. I also introduce the most promising progenitor in hand and I present observational diagnostics that can reveal more members of the category.

수질오염 제염을 위한 세슘 선택성 상자성 코어 무기복합제염제 개발 (Development of Cesium-selective Paramagnetic Core Inorganic Composite Agent for Water Decontamination)

  • Large amounts of liquid radioactive waste or radioactive contaminated water could be produced during the treatment of radiation accidents or during the dismantling and decontamination process of nuclear power plants. Since most of the decontamination agents to date are difficult to recover after adsorption of radioactive isotopes, their use in open environments such as rivers, reservoirs, or oceans is limited. In this study, as a radioactive decontamination agent that can overcome the current limitations when used in an open environment, a paramagnetic core inorganic composite (PMCIC) decomposite agent with high selectivity to cesium ions was developed. PMCore was prepared by synthesizing paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, and inorganic crystals such as metal-ferrocyanide were conjugated to the surface so that PMCore could be selective to cesium ions. The developed PMCIC could be easily recovered from the water by magnetism and could adsorb up to 94 μM of Cs atoms per 1 g of PMCIC.

Magnetization Behavior of Ultra-thin FexCo1-x Alloy on Cr (100) Surface

  • Magnetization behavior of ultra thin $Fe_xCo_{1-x}$ alloy (where x varies from 0 to 100) has been investigated as functions of composition on Cr (100) substrate by using in situ surface magneto optical Kerr effect (SMOKE). It's always show in plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy at room temperature (RT) & Low temperature (LT). It is observed that composition dependent coercive force maximum at about 30 at % Co and 70 at % Co atomic ratio and minimum near equiatomic site. The relative magnetic moments as composition variation also show magnetization collapse near equiatomic site. The magnetization behaviors of Fe-Co alloy on Cr (100) due to composition varies are supported the order-disordering as well as structural stability bcc (ferromagnetic)/fcc (anti-ferromagnetic) phase stability magnetism.

SOFT MAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF FeTaNC NANOCRYSTALLINE FILMS

  • Soft magnetic properties and microstructural evolution of FeTaNC films were investigated, and compared with FeTaN and FeTaC films. Effects of substrate species (glass vs. $CaTiO_3$) on the magnetic properties were also investigated. Co-addition of N and C significantly enhance the grain refinments and magnetism, compared with N or C addition only. Good soft magnetic characteristics of coercivity of 0.17 Oe, permeability of 4000 (5MHz), and saturation flux density of 17 kG can be obtained in the FeTaNC in the relatively wide process windows. While these values appears to be similar to those of FeTaN on glass substrate, most distinctive difference between FeTaNC and FeTaN(or C) is in the effects of substrate. Whereas FeTaNC films show good magnetic characteristics for both glass and $CaTiO_3$ substrates, FeTaN(or C) films show significant degradation on the $CaTiO_3$ substrate.

CrPt3(001) 박막의 자성: 제일원리계산 (First Principles Calculations on Magnetism of CrPt3(001) Thin Films)

  • $CrPt_3$ 합금은 큰 Kerr 효과를 보여 주는 강한 자기결정 이방성을 가지고 있고 흥미롭게도 훈트 제3법칙을 따르지 않는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 $CrPt_3$ 합금 박막의 두께의 따른 자성과 자기결정 이방성의 변화를 제일원리계산 방법을 이용하여 연구하였다. 기준 자료로 활용하기 위해 덩치 $CrPt_3$의 다양한 자성 상태, 즉 강자성(FM), A-, C-, G-type 반강자성(A-, C-, G-AF)에 대한 계산을 우선 수행하였는데 덩치 $CrPt_3$은 FM 상태가 안정하였고 이는 실험과 일치하였다. A-, C-, G-AF 상태가 FM 상태일 때 보다 총에너지가 각각 0.517, 0.591, 0.183 eV 만큼 높았고 Cr의 자기모멘트는 FM, A-, C-, G-AF 일 때 각각 2.782, 2.805, 2.794, $2.869_{{\mu}_B}$으로 확인되었다. $CrPt_3$(001) 박막의 표면은 CrPt 표면과 Pt 표면으로 두 종류의 원소 구성을 가질 수 있다. 각각의 표면에 대해 3층에서 9층까지 두께를 변화시켜 가면서 계산을 수행하였다. CrPt 표면의 3층 박막은 덩치와는 다르게 C-AF 상태가 FM 상태에 비해 8 meV 안정하였고 그 보다 두꺼운 5층, 7층, 9층 박막은 덩치처럼 FM 상태가 안정하였다. Pt 표면의 3층 박막은 C-AF 상태가 FM 상태에 비해 37 meV, 5층 박막은 G-AF이 FM 상태에 비해 54 meV 만큼 안정하였고 그 보다 두꺼운 7, 9층 박막은 덩치와 같이 FM 상태가 더 안정하였다.

Magnetism during adsorption of oxygen in Pt segregated $Pt_3Ni$ (111): Density Functional Study

  • Limited understanding of the surface properties of $Pt_3Ni$ for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) has motivated the study of magnetic properties and electronic structures of Pt segregated $Pt_3Ni$ (111) surface during adsorption of oxygen molecule on it. The first principle method based on density functional theory (DFT) is carried out. Nonmagnetic Pt has induced magnetic moment due to strong hybridization between Ni 3d and Pt 5d. It is found that an oxygen molecule prefers bridge site with Pt rich subsurface environment for adsorption on the surface of Pt segregated $Pt_3Ni$ (111). It is seen that there is very small charge transfer from $O_2$ to Pt. The curve of energy versus magnetic moment of the oxygen explains the magnetic moments in transition states. We found the dissociation barrier of 1.07eV significantly higher than dissociation barrier 0.77eV on Pt (111) suggesting that the dissociation is more difficult on Pt segregated $Pt_3Ni$ (111) surface. The spin polarized densities of states are presented in order to understand electronic structures of Pt and $O_2$ during the adsorption in detail.

Ag@Fe3O4 코어-쉘 나노입자의 광학적 특성 (Optical Properties of Ag@Fe3O4 Core-Shell Nanoparticles)

  • 본 논문에서는 플라즈모닉 코어와 자성 쉘로 구성된 $Ag@Fe_3O_4$ 나노입자의 흥미로운 광학적 특성에 대해 연구를 하였다. 기존의 60 nm의 지름을 갖는 은 나노입자의 표면에 높은 굴절률을 갖는 $Fe_3O_4$ 쉘이 형성됨에 따라 국소 표면 플라즈몬 공명(Localized surface plasmon resonance; LSPR) 파장이 420 nm에서 650 nm로 이동하는 red-shift 현상을 관찰 할 수 있었고, 또한, 세 가지 시뮬레이션 모델들 ($Ag@Fe_3O_4$ 나노입자, $Fe_3O_4$ 쉘 나노입자, 은 나노입자)을 통해서 410 nm 파장의 peak이 60 nm의 두께를 가진 $Fe_3O_4$ 쉘에 의해 발생하는 산란이 주된 원인이라는 것을 규명하였다. 이 결과는 비슷한 종류의 나노입자를 이용한 추후 다양하고 복잡한 나노어셈블리의 광학적 현상을 이해하는데 사용될 것이다.
