A Study on the Effective Free Surface of Fluid Cargo (유동화물의 유효자유표면에 관한 연구)

  • It is well known that the height of tank metacenter above the centroid of fluid in a tank is given by i/v where I is the inertia moment of free surface and v is the fluid volume. It is supposed in this formula that the inclination of ship is small and that the free surface of fluid do not touch the top and the bottom of tank. It the inclination of ship is large, the height of tank metacenter may be possibly greater than that given by i/v. The height of tank metacenter is smaller than i/v when the free surface of fluid touch the top or the bottom of tank. The reasonable method to calculate the height of tank metacenter is presented in this paper and prepared in FORTRAN program by FUNCTION EFFRES. The approximate formula was also developed and given by $g_m=(1+\frac{2}{1}tan^2\theta)[1-EXP\{-12(\frac{\alpha(1-\alpha)k}{tan\theta})^{1.25}\}]\frac{i}{v}$ where $g_m$ is the distance from the centroid of fluid to the tank metacenter, $\theta$ is inclined angle of ship, $\alpha$ is the ratio of filled volume to tank capacity and k is the ratio of the depth to the width of tank. The values calculated by the approximate formula given in this paper were compared with the exact values from the computer program and proved out to be sufficiently precise for practical use.

Characteristics of Ball End Milling and Rotary Die-sinking Electrical Discharge Machining for the Cutting Inclination Location (가공경사면 위치에 따른 볼엔드밀가공과 회전식 형조방전가공 특성)

  • In this study, work materials of the ree form surface shape was machined by ball end mill cutter according to the change of cutting location and depth, and the acquired data of cutting force, tool deflection and shape accuracy were analyzed. Cutting force results were obtained with tool dynamometer and tool deflection values were measured by a couple of eddy-current sensors. Shape accuracy was obtained by roundness tester and surface profile measuring machine. As inclination angle was decreased, cutting force was increased. Cutting force showed large value at $105^{\circ}$ and $150^{\circ}$. Tool deflection was less at down milling than at up milling, decreased at 45$^{\circ}$ and 120$^{\circ}$, and shown large tool deflection at $150^{\circ}$. Roughness values were found to be bad in the inside of surface shape tool deflection. Surface accuracy was obtained better precision in down milling than in up milling.

An anatomical study on the mandibular medial surface by CBCT analysis for safer implant placement (안전한 임플란트 식립을 위한 하악골 내측면의 CBCT를 이용한 해부학적 연구)

  • Introduction: This study examined the anatomical morphology of the medial surface of the posterior mandible using 3-dimensional cone-beam computed tomography (CT) images to reduce the number of complications related to dental implant placement. Materials and Methods: Fifty patients were enrolled in this study with an average age (${\pm}$standard deviation) of 44.28 (${\pm}13.05$). On the coronal views cone-beam CT of the first molars, the distance between the top of the canal and alveolar crest vertical distance (VD), the distance between the upper-most point of the canal and the point perpendicular to the lingual cortical margin of the mandible lingual distance (LD), the location of the starting point of VD for reducing from the vertical reference line (VD point), and the inclination of the mandibular medial surface (lingual inclination) were measured, and a statistical evaluation was performed using SPSS for Windows version 15.0. Results: The mean VD0 was $16.91{\pm}2.47\;mm$ and VDx decreased with increasing x value. The mean LD was $5.27{\pm}1.36\;mm$. The VD began to decrease at the mean location of $6.12{\pm}0.96\;mm$ from the vertical reference line. The mean lingual inclination was $1.52{\pm}0.72^{\circ}$. Conclusion: These results will assist in the accurate placement of dental implants and the reduction of complications, particularly in the case of preoperative implant planning using only 2-dimensional imaging methods.   • Design analysis for underground spaces requires evaluating stability related to tunnel collapses. A failure mode is one of the critical factors in the conventional methods of stability analysis. Therefore identification of failure modes is essential in securing safe construction in the phase of design analysis, instrumentation planning and implementation of reinforcing measures. In this study failure modes at the tunnel heading in granular soils are investigated using physical model tests and numerical simulation for various tunnel depths and ground surface inclinations. Test results indicated that the effect of depth and inclination of ground surface on a failure mode are significant. It is identified that, with an incase in depth, failure modes become localized in a region close to the tunnel. It is also known that an increase in the inclination of ground surface results in inclined and wide failure modes.

Fracture Strength of IPS Empress Crown : The Effect of Incisal Reduction and Axial Inclination on Lower Canine (IPS Empress 도재관의 파절강도 : 하악 견치에서 절단연 삭제량과 축면 경사도에 따른 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the fracture strength of the IPS Empress ceramic crown according to the incisal reduction(2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.0mm) and axial inclination ($4^{\circ}$, $8^{\circ}$, $12^{\circ}$) of the lower canine. After 10 metal dies were made for each group, the IPS Empress ceramic crowns were fabricated and each crown was cemented on each metal die with resin cement. The cemented crowns mounted on the testing jig were inclined 30 degrees and a universal testing machine was used to measure the fracture strength. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The fracture strength of the ceramic crown with 3.0mm depth and $12^{\circ}$ inclination was the highest(1377N). Crowns of 2.0mm depth and $4^{\circ}$ inclination had the lowest strength (731 N). 2. There were no significant differences of the fracture strength by axial inclination in same incisal reduction group. 3. The fracture mode of the crowns was similar. Most of fracture lines began at the loading area and extended through proximal surface perpendicular to the margin irrespective of incisal reduction.

Wind Engineering Study on the Surface-Pressure Characteristic of a Triangular Prism Located Behind a Porous Fence (다공성 방풍펜스 후방에 놓인 삼각프리즘의 표면압력특성에 관한 풍공학적 연구)

  • The effects of porous wind fence on the pressure characteristics around a 2-dimensional prism model of triangular cross-section were investigated experimentally. The fence and prism model were embedded in a neutral atmospheric surface boundary layer over the city suburb. In this study, various fences of different porosity, back fence, inclination angle of prism and location of additional back prisms were tested to investigate their effects on the pressure and wall shear stress of the prism surface. The fence and prism had the same height of 40 mm and Reynolds number based on the model height was Re=3.9*10$^{4}$. The porous fence with porosity 40% was found to be the best wind fence for decreasing the mean and pressure fluctuations on the prism surface. By installing the fence of porosity 40%, the wall shear stress on the windward surface of prism was largely decreased up to 1/3 of that without the fence. This indicates that the porous fence is most effective to abate the wind erosion. Pressure fluctuations on the model surface were decreased more than half when a back fence was located behind the prism in addition to the front fence. With locating several back prisms and decreasing the inclination angle of triangular prism, the pressure fluctuations on the model surface were increased on the contrary.

  • To construct the extrusion die surface, a B-Spline surface scheme based on the cubic B-Spline curve interpolation method is proposed in the present work. The inlet and outlet profiles are described with B-Spline curves by using the centripetal method for uniform parameterization. The interior control points of surface are generated using the derivative characteristics of B-Spline curve. A complete B-Spline surface is constructed by using appropriate coordinate transformation and knot deletion. In the present study, a quantitative measure for the control of surface is suggested by introducing the tangential vector and inclination angles at the inlet and outlet sections. To verify the validity of the proposed method, automatic surface generation is carried out for the various types of extrusion die surface.

  • A new empirical correlation was developed to identify the effect of an inclination angle on pool boiling heat transfer coefficient of a tube submerged in the saturated water at atmospheric pressure. Through the experiments and the survey of published results 431 data points were obtained and the nonlinear least square method was used as a regression technique. The heat flux of the tube($0{\sim}120kW/m^2$), inclination angle($0^{\circ}{\sim}90^{\circ}$), and the length divided by the diameter of a tube(18~42.52) were selected as major parameters. The newly developed correlation well predicts the experimental data within ${\pm}18%$, with some exceptions.

  • The object of the study is to discuss the effect of magic ink as a surface active substance on the mechanism of chip formation in oblique cutting. The Rehbinder effect has been known as a phenomenon that the mechanical strength reduces when the metal is coated with some surface active substances. In order to interpret these surface effects defined by Rehbinder, the influence on the shear strength of shear plane by coating surface active substances, cutting force by the depth of cut, surface roughness and hardness ratio were observed. The results are as follows: 1. By coating the magic ink on free surface of the forming chip, the effective shear angle increases, and the cuttinbg force and the deformed chip thickness decreases. 2. With the large inclination angle the effective shear angle increases, and the specific cutting force and the friction angle decrease. 3. Cutting of the coated surface improves the surface roughness and the hardness ratio drops, which means another Rehbinder effect.

Analysis of submerging characteristics and stability of the model submersible fish cage operated by buoyancy control (부력 제어식 가두리 모형의 부침 특성 및 안정성 해석)

  • This study aims to analyze the performance of a submersible fish cage which was designed for developing an economical cage system can be applied in korean aquaculture environment easily. To analyze the performance of the designed cage a model test was carried out. In the test, inclination changes of the upper frame and mooring tensions of model cage were measured during the submerging and surfacing motion in still water and wave condition (period: 2s, wave height: 0.1, 0.2, 0.3m). As a result, in the still water condition the model cage kept horizontal balance and inclination degree of the upper frame was about $1^{\circ}$. In the wave condition, the model cage showed bilateral symmetric up-and-down motion but the average inclination degree of the upper frame was about $0^{\circ}$. When the model cage reached at a depth of 1m, the up-and-down motion of the cage was decreased by 12% compared with that of at the surface (period 2s, height 0.3m). In the same wave condition, the maximum and average line tension under the bottom position were about 8% and 11% respectively compared with that of at surface.
