A Design of New Surface Gradient Coil and Its Application to MR Computerized Tomography

  • A new three-channel surface gradient coil obtained by using numerical optimization and its application to MR computerized nomography are presented. The new surface gradient coil pro aided linear field gradient region more than twice wider compared with the t'irst surface gradi encl coil, removed torque and field offset, and reduced coupling between the surface gradient coil and combined surface rf coil. We realized the new surface gradient coil set with $30{\times}60{cm^2}$2 size, which generated more tharl 4G/cm with 100 amperes over a $4{\times}4{\times}4{cm^3}$ region with good linearity. The optimal geometries of the three-channel surface gradient coil and volun teer's high-resolution in wiuo spinal cord Images obtained by using the optimized surface gradi ent coil set are presented.

  • In our country, the skin image and MR Microscopy research has been processed but there were not their outstanding results. So this study start to improve the techniques can get high resolution skin images and to make RF surface coils. Volume coils are sometimes unavailable, or do not provide adequate RF power or SNR for some applications. In high resolution skin and tissue structure images current coils have a technical limitation. It is well known that standard single-loop surface coils, although offering high SNR characteristics, have poor B1 homogeneity. As the RF surface coil need change its geometry we get improved images. So, The magnetic field simulation that is first step to make and design RF surface coil will support reference data.

  • 목적: 피부표면에 가까운 고분해능 MR 영상을 얻기 위하여는 Surface RF Coil과 강력한 경사자계를 갖는 Gradient Coil이 필수적으로 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 High-Resolution MR Imaging을 위해 surface RF Coil과 Surface Gradient Coil을 제안하였다. Target Field Method를 사용하여 Gradient Coil의 전력 소모를 최소화하였으며 MR Microscopy가 가능한 50 mm∼100 mm의 해상도가 가능하도록 Coil을 설계하였다.

  • 목적: We has proposed a surface coil which has improved SNR compared with the standard head coil. Usually, a cylindrical head coil provide good homogeneity but less SNR than surface coil. A surface coil has better SNR at the expense of image homogeneity. In this paper, a surface coil of transmit-receive mode offers a better SNR as compared with a head coil.

  • A new in vivo high resolution imaging method which is performed with a newly developed three channel surface gradient coil (SGC) is described. The surface gradient coil can produce more than an order of magnitude stronger gradient fields with good linearity within a limited imaging region. To increase the signal to noise ratio (SNR), we have developed an RF coil integrated surface gradient coil set. In this paper, the geometrical structures and characteristics of the proposed surface gradient coil are discussed and experimentally obtained high resolution images ($50\;{\mu}m$ to $100\;{\mu}m$) of a water filled phantom and a human volunteer's knee using the new surface RF coil integrated SGC set are presented for the demonstration of the in vivo high resolution imaging capability of the new imaging method.

  • This paper presents mechanical analysis of gas turbine generator (113MVA, $3{\phi}$, 2P, 0.9PF, F class, 3600rpm, 60Hz, 13.8kV, 4.72kA, Air-Cooling) field coil deformation. Rotor end coil deformation is only appeared on turbine end but collector end coil is normal. Expansion direction of end coil is tangential not axial. Deformation appears more severe at top turn. Retaining ling is expanded by centrifugal force of coil and itself. In case friction coefficient between coil top surface and retaining ring insulation inner surface is small, coil end length ${\ell}$ does not change. However, in case friction coefficient big condition, coil end is expanded ${\Delta}{\ell}$ due to start and stop. Deformation is assumed about 30mm by watching photograph inner surface of retaining ring is coated by Teflon at manufacturing condition. Usually Teflon coating insulation surface is small friction coefficient. It's value 0.08${\sim}$0.15. However it's value exceeds more than 0.297. Since top turn deformation appears. The distortion and subsequent failure have occurred because of the lack of a sufficient slip-plane between the top field coil conductors and the inside surface of the retaining ring insulation on the turbine end of the field-winding.

  • The purpose of this study was to improve the technique so as to develop an advanced sensitive RF surface coil for investigating the sensitivities of the multi-spiral surface coils, and we eventually wanted to achieve high resolution of the microscopic MR images and MR spectra. The magnetic field inhomogeneity and shape of a surface coil were statistically estimated by simulation of the magnetic field distribution. On the basis of the experimental results with single, 3 and S-turned spiral RF surface coils, we found that the 3-turned coil had the highest sensitivity. The present study showed that the sensitivity of the RF surface coil was improved by increasing the number of spiral coil turns, and also the SNR of the RF surface coil was dependent upon the number of spiral coil turns. However, we found, rather strikingly, that the sensitivity of excessive turns of the coils was decreased due to the rise of the coil's Impedance. Thus, the present results demonstrated that the sensitivity was not proportional to the number of a spiral RF coil's turns, and the number of spiral coil turns should be optimized for obtaining the highest sensitivity and SNR.

  • We describe quadrature type surface coil for functional magnetic resonance imaging at 3T MRI system. The coil consisted of two coplanar resonators and was used as both transmitter and receiver. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the coil was compared with that of a standard birdcage head coil. Visual cortex activation on normal subjects using LED flicker was performed. The SNR of surface coil was found to be better than that of the conventional head coil.

  • In this paper, we introduce an RFID planar coil whose inductance does not change when it is attached on the metal surface. The coil is designed considering the inductance reduction on metal surface so that the inductance is the inverse times the reduction rate, and copper pour is placed in the bottom layer of the coil. This coil configuration is very simple and effective in constructing RFID systems for managing objects with metal surface because it prevents inductance reduction on metal surface.
