We report a simple area measurement device for 3 dimensional object using 3 degree of freedom sensor. The surface of 3D object can be divided into a number of triangles, and the surface area of 3D object could be measured by the sum of the divided triangle area. We applied 6DOF sensor to measure the coordinate of triangle vertex, and calculated each triangle area on the surface of 3D object. The many we divide the area to triangles, the correct we will get the result. This method shows 7.78% in error on the measurement of 3 dimensional object area.

High-accuracy micropatterns such as V-shaped microgrooves are increasingly in demand for various engineering areas. And the technical trend goes for large surface areas in precision machining technology. So micropatterns with large surface areas are expected to play an increasingly important role in today's manufacturing technology In this study, we focused on developing machining technologies. First, a machine vision system for precise tool setting is developed. Second, an on-machine measurement (OMM) system for large-area measurement is implemented. And also software for tool path generation and simulation is developed. With these technologies we fabricated large-surface micropatterns in an electroless nickel-plated workpiece with single-crystal diamond tools and a 32-in, $675mm{\times}450mm$ mold with tens of V-and pyramid-shaped micropatterns.

Surface roughness measurement system with capacitance type gap sensor. Tentative result from the calibration measurement showed the potential applicability of the sensor to the processed specimen. In order to test the sensitivity of the measurement system, several parameters including valley depth, width of the specimen have been changed. Effect of the charge area between sensor and specimen surface has been also analyzed.

Noise power of large machineries, such as textile looms, winders, and twisting machines, is often measured in a reverberant space because they cannot be installed and operated in an anechoic chamber due to their size, weight, and operating conditions. Factors affecting the measurement error of an in-situ noise power measurement include the nonuniform reverberation time and the direction of sound intensity vector which is usually regarded as normal to the measurement surface. In this study errors due to these factors are estimated with the aid of numerical simulation based on the ray-tracing technique. The averaging of reverberation times measured at several points on the measurement surface is suggested to reduce the errors from nonuniform absorption. Also the direction cosine of each surface element is taken into account, which as a whole is represented as a solid angle of the measurement surface.
A finite element analysis is proposed to study the effect of specimen dimensions on lateral diffusion of hydrogen during hydrogen permeation flux measurements. The error of measurement on thick specimens because of 1D diffusion approximation may be as much as 70%. A critical condition for accurate measurements is to designate the area of hydrogen monitoring/exit surface smaller than the area of hydrogen charging/entry surface. For thin to medium thickness specimens (ratio of thickness to specimen radius of 5:10 and below), the charging surface should be maximized and the monitoring surface should be minimized. In case of relatively thick specimens (ratio of thickness to specimen radius above of 5:10), use of a hydrogen-diffusion barrier on the specimen boundaries is recommended. It would completely eliminate lateral losses of hydrogen, but cannot eliminate the deviation towards 2D diffusion near the side edges. In such a case, the charging surface should be maximized and the monitoring surface should be as closer in dimension as the charging surface. A regression analysis was carried out and an analytical relationship between the maximum measurement error and the specimen dimensions is proposed.

Design changes for an original surface model are frequently required in a manufacturing area: for example, when the physical parts are modified or when the parts are partially manufactured from analogous shapes. In this case, an efficient 3D model updating method by locally adding scan data for the modified area is highly desirable. For this purpose, this paper presents a new procedure to update an initial model that is composed of combinatorial triangular facets based on a set of locally added point data. The initial surface model is first created from the initial point set by Tight Cocone, which is a water-tight surface reconstructor; and then the point cloud data for the updates is locally added onto the initial model maintaining the same coordinate system. In order to update the initial model, the special region on the initial surface that needs to be updated is recognized through the detection of the overlapping area between the initial model and the boundary of the newly added point cloud. After that, the initial surface model is eventually updated to the final output by replacing the recognized region with the newly added point cloud. The proposed method has been implemented and tested with several examples. This algorithm will be practically useful to modify the surface model with physical part changes and free-form surface design.

It is reasonable to use the stereo vision and image processing technique to digitize 3D coordinates of grid points and to evaluate surface strains on a sheet metal parts. However this method has its intrinsic problems such as the difficulty in enhancement of bad images inevitable error due to digital image resolution of camera and frame grabber unreliability of strains and thickness evaluated from coarse grid on the corner area with large curvature and the limitation of the area that can be measured at a time. Therefore it is still hard to measure strain distribution over the entire surface of a medium,- or large-sized stamped part at a time even by using an automated strain measurement system. In this study the curvature correction algorithm based on the grid refinement and the geometry assembling algorithm based on the global error minimization (GEM) scheme are suggested. Several applications are presented to show the reliability and efficiency of these algorithms.
Traditionally, it is measured by using basin or empirical formula with meteorology data, while it does not represent the evaportransporation over a regional area. With the advent of improved remote sensing technology, it becomes feasible to assess the ET over a regional scale. Firstly, the IMAGINE ATCOR atmospheric module is used to preprocess for the MODIS imagery. Then MODIS satellite images which have been corrected by radiation and geometry in conjunction with the in-situ surface meteorological measurement are used to estimate the surface heat fluxes such as soil heat flux, sensible heat flux, and latent heat flux. In addition, the correlation coefficient between the derived latent heat and the in-situ measurement is found to be over 0.76. In the future, we will continue to monitor the surface heat fluxes of paddy rice field in Chiayi area.

I present a method of aspheric surface profile measurement using 2nd derivative of local area profile. This method is based on the principle of curvature sensor which measures the local 2nd derivative under test along a line. The profile is then reconstructed from the data on the each point. Unlike subaperture-stiching method and slope detection method, 2nd derivative method has strong points from a geometric point of view in measuring the aspheric surface profile. The second derivative terms of surface profile is an intrinsic property of the test piece, which is independent of its position and tip-tilt motion. The curvature is measured at every local area with high accuracy and high lateral resolution by using White-light scanning interferometry.

measuring surface area errors can be brought about with different measuring people. This study aims at eliminating such errors in measurement. With measures by 3 people whose experience varies from person to person, the existing area measuring method using a planimeter and two other methods which use a computer (one using a digitizer and the other using a scanner) have been analyzed and compared. Three methods have not shown a meaningful difference in respect to the value" of area and two methods other than the one using a scanner have shown a meaningful difference among 3 measuring people. Therefore, we propose the method using a scanner by image processing should be a more improved one for area measuring. The arguments for that are as fllows. 1. The operation for measurement is simple and it has a high degree of accuracy with few errors. 2. Because different measuring people cause few errors the operation started by one person can be handed over to anyone else and the operation dosen't require previous skill. 3. Once image file is saved, the operation can be performed on several computers at the same time with seperate part on each computer. 4. Three methods have needed nearly the same length of time, but time for the method using a scanner can be reduced on computers with a higher capacity.th a higher capacity.
