  • The purpose of this study was to analyze structural relationships with regard to the effect of customer integration, which is a type of integration in the supply chain, and market orientation of supply chain on the resulting change in the supply chain and management performance. The results of analysis in this study are as follows: First, customer integration and market orientation had a positive effect on reducing the flexibility and uncertainty of SCM. The decreased flexibility and uncertainty of SCM had a positive effect on non-financial performance, which also had a positive effect on financial performance. Second, customer integration and market orientation had a positive effect on financial and non-financial performance indirectly by decreasing the flexibility and uncertainty of SCM. Third, the effect of customer integration and uncertainty of SCM on the flexibility of SCM changed depending on the position in the supply chain; the effect was larger in the distribution group. The implications based on the analysis results are as follows: It is expected that the ability to deal with market changes in the overall supply chain is improved by laying the foundation for cooperation through establishing information infrastructure, including sharing information with trade partners and integrating systems, and implementing customer integration based on these achievements. It is also necessary to consider the business types and characteristics of individual companies in establishing information infrastructure.

  • The environment of supply chains is rapidly changed to global and eco-freindly work process. However, at current environment, it is not easy to grasp work flow and to analyze energy efficiency. Improving energy efficiency and visibility for goods flow can contribute to increases in customer attitudes and reductions in overall production costs Additionally, it can lead to increases in work efficiency and reductions in overall production costs. Until recently, efforts to improve energy performance focused on manufacturing industry. Those efforts have expanded to the supply chain. In this paper, we perform business process modeling about supply chain for visibility and sustainability - information and component flows - from assembly plants to logistics. This paper defines the work and information flows by modeling the underlying logical structures of the supply chain and the business processes that determine impact of visibility and sustainability. We model processes using the modeling methodology specified by UN/CEFACT. This methodology explains business process functionality and business transactions by UML diagram. The output of this paper would be useful in grasping work flow and capturing the used energy.

  • In one global industry after another, supply chains are reaching across continents farther and deeper than they have ever been. As a result, global companies are confronting new and more formidable supply chain risks which insurance policies alone cannot overcome. This is especially true in the Korean manufacturing industry, where the integration of Supply Chain Management and Risk Management has become critical among Korean export manufactures. One of the most effective ways to manage supply chain risks is to prevent them from occurrence. First, however, supply chain managers must have the knowledge to identify potential causes of supply chain risks. This paper attempts to contribute to such knowledge by examining the relationships between Risk Management, Business Partnership, and Business Performance among Korean export manufacturers. Our study analysed 105 cases in Korean supply chain management and then developed a structural equation model. From our model we found that Supply Chain Risk Management affects both Business Performance and Business Partnerships among Korean export manufacturers. Our model also revealed that the practice of Risk Management within the Supply Chain of Korean export manufacturing industry is impeded by certain constraints and limitations.

  • Customer demand is rising as services competition becomes more intense among logistics companies. Some large companies provide total logistics services, but most logistics companies provide total logistics services in cooperation with other companies. Therefore, supply chain competition is becoming more important than competition among logistics providers. The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of logistics cooperation and supply chain competence on logistics performance. In this study, we conducted a literature review to identify the key factors that logistics companies consider important, and establish a conceptual research model. A survey was conducted on 286 logistics companies in Korea, and hypotheses were verified based on the structural equation model. The hypotheses test results are as follows. First, logistics cooperation had a significant effect on supply chain competence and logistics performance. Second, logistics performance improves when supply chain competence is strengthened. Third, higher level logistics expertise resulted in greater logistics cooperation effects on logistics performance.

  • Purpose - Many researchers analyze VMI as a supply chain collaboration program to reveal its true value. Most of them focus on the dyadic relationship in two stage supply chain systems. This study examines the effect of VMI when it is applied to the different parts of three stage supply chain systems. Research design, data, and methodology - Based on three stage supply chain, this study compares three different systems including full VMI, partial VMI, and non-VMI by using mathematical models. The performances of three systems are compared with the numerical examples of the proposed supply chain models. Results - The numerical examples reveal that full VMI where the manufacturer controls inventories at all stages outperforms any other systems in terms of the system profit and enables all individual members to gain greater profits than non-VMI. Meanwhile, under partial VMI where VMI is implemented between the wholesaler and retailer, only these two members improve their performances and the manufacturer who does not belong to VMI makes less profit than even under non-VMI. This study also examines the impact of market size and profit margin on the system performance. Conclusions - The result of this study supports the common belief that VMI secures the best result when it is applied to the entire supply chain system. The additional findings from the numerical analysis are discussed.

  • With globalization and the development of information and communication technology, the supply chain is becoming more widespread and complex, which increases the occurrence and damage caused by supply chain risks. Supply chain risk management has a great impact on corporate performance through the analysis of risk factors and proactive and strategic approaches. This study aims to analyze the effects of supply chain risk factors on risk management strategies and corporate performance empirically. In the research model for empirical analysis, supply chain risk factors were classified into supply, demand, operation, network, and external environment, while the risk management strategies were divided into active and passive strategies, as well as financial and operational performance for corporate performance. The data obtained via the questionnaire were analyzed for the path of the structural equation model. As a result of the analysis, companies are actively pursuing risk management for internal risk factors, rather than external factors, in terms of internal and external risk factors, and it was found that these strategies have a significant effect on corporate performance. Therefore, in the future, companies should conduct risk management strategies more proactively and preemptively through a thorough analysis of various risk factors affecting business operations.

  • Irrational ordering decisions of supply chain members have been gaining growing importance in the area of supply chain management. Irrational ordering behaviors that deviate from the profit maximizing decisions in the newsvendor settings have observed with human experiments in recent research. These behaviors can be modeled with several typical decision bias elements. This bias in ordering decisions affects the performance of supply chain contracts designed based on the assumption that the supply chain members make optimal decisions, making it necessary to design supply chain contracts by considering the irrationality. The purpose of this research is to derive a method to design the revenue sharing contract that considers human irrationality in ordering decisions. This research considers a simple two-echelon supply chain consisting of one supplier and one retailer, where the supplier is assumed to be perfectly rational while the retailer making newsvendor type ordering decisions displays irrational ordering behaviors. Under this environment, this research analytically models the revenue sharing contract to maximize the total supply chain profit or the supplier's own profits while considering the three decision bias patterns of the retailer, which include the pull-to-center effect, the prospect theory, and the increased subjective sensitivity to the revenue sharing ratio. Irrationality parameters are measured through human experiments based on which and through numerical simulations, we showed that significant improvements in the supply chain performance can be achieved.

  • The Healthcare supply chain management has recently attracted attention as a critical tool to improve service quality and reduce healthcare operational cost. Improving large hospital supply chain performance has become increasingly important as healthcare organizations strive to improve the service quality, while reducing the ever-increasing healthcare cost. This paper explores the strategic areas where the traditional supply chain management may enhance the overall performance of the large hospitals. Based on the literature review and relevant case analysis, this paper argues that the visibility, information sharing and standardization are the critical factors for deploying the supply chain principles, and also proposes the supply chain framework for efficient planning and execution, the use of RFID-enabled system for the end-to-end traceability of medical products, and cross-docking system for minimizing the inventory level in the hospital supply chain. Implications of the study findings are discussed.

  • We develop an intelligent information system in a multilayer electronic supply chain network. Using the internet for supply chain management (SCM) is a key interest for contemporary managers and researchers. It has been realized that the internet can facilitate SCM by making real time information available and enabling collaboration between trading partners. Here, we propose a multi-agent system to analyze the performance of the elements of a supply network based on the attributes of the information flow. Each layer consists of elements which are differentiated by their performance throughout the supply network. The proposed agents measure and record the performance flow of elements considering their web interactions for a dynamic route selection. A dynamic programming approach is applied to determine the optimal route for a customer in the end-user layer.
