An overview of decentralized optimal fault-tolerant supervisory control systems

  • In this paper, we discuss decentralized optimal fault tolerant supervisory control issues on the basis of failure analysis and diagnosis from the angle of discrete event dynamic system. We address the detectability and the observability problems, and develope fault tolerant supervisory control system upon the failure analysis and diagnosis schemes. A complete min-cut is introduced and the procedure for finding the achievable or nonachievable layered optimal legal sublanguages is suggested for a preferential option among the reachable states in the controlled plant. A layered optimal supervisory control framework is proposed upon these. We extend the concept of decentralized supervisory control by considering the problem of combination of decentralized with centralized control in case pure decentralized control happens to be inadequate. We introduce the concept of locally controllable pair and present a hybrid decentralized supervisory control framework. Finally, we propose the analytical framework for a decentralized optimal fault tolerant supervisory control systems.

  • In this study, a structured supervisory control for automatic assembly system is developed. And also diagnosis and fault-recovery capability of this supervisory control are discussed. This structured supervisory control is actually applied to Die Bonding Machine and is proved to be useful and to work well.

  • In this paper, neural network-supervisory control method is proposed to minimize the effect of system uncertainty by load change and disturbance in the PID control system. In the proposed method, PID controller performs main control action by performing control within constraint error. And neural network-supervisory controller performs control action when error reaches the boundary of constraint error. Combining neural network-supervisory controller to guarantee the stability into PID control system, the resulting PID control system is expected to show better performance in the system with load change and disturbance. Simulation applying PID controller and neural network-supervisory controller showed excellence of proposed method.

  • Robust control for feedback control system is needed according to the highest precision of industrial automation. However, when a feedback control system has an effect of disturbance, it is very difficult to guarantee the robustness of control system. As a compensation method solving this problem, in this paper, Hybrid control method of feedback and Differential Supervisory controller is presented. A Feedback Controller is operated as a main controller, A Differential Supervisory Controller is a controller which operates only when some undesirable phenomena occur, e. g., when the error hits the boundary of constraint set. The robust control function of Differential Supervisory Controller, as a assistant controller is operated when state is unstable by disturbance. it demonstrated by speed control of motor.

  • The related industrial technologies are also being developed in medicine, education, the military, transportation, process management, security management and information technology industries due to a rapid progress in telecommunications technology. The supervisory remote control system is based upon telecommunications technology. The supervisory remote control systems are used in various ways such as city gas, water supply and drainage, environment, power, communication and device control fields. The supervisory remort control system became a solution with complex systems and important technologies in electricity, city gas filed that require safety management skills. The supervisory remote control system as a special technology has a lot of practical applications. In this paper, Let me examine the present status of remort control system applications and present development plans and alternatives in city-gas industrial technology.

  • In this paper, a multi-processor-based supervisory control for automatic assembly system is presented. The proposed supervisory control is organized in terms of C-language and with structured and easily expandable characteristics. Also the controller is designed to possess diagnostic capability including self-diagnosis of processor module. The developed supervisory control has been shown to be very useful via a high speed automatic assembly system with vision capability.

  • It is needed to robust control for D.C. servo motor according to industrial automation. However, when a motor has an effect of disturbance and variable load, it is very difficult to guarantee the robustness of the system. as a compensation way of solving this problem, in this paper, a expert supervisory control method for motor control system is presented. Expert supervisory controller is designed by error and error change, and nth control input is decided by the addition of (n-1)th control input and inference amount of increase or decrease. Control input of expert supervisory control is transmitted to input, and the disturbance effect decrease remarkable by control input. The robustness of D.C. servo motor using expert supervisory control is demonstrated by the computer simulation.

  • This paper describes the application of discrete event systems theory to the design of an automated laboratory system. Current automated laboratory systems typically consist of several interacting processes that must be carefully sequenced to avoid any possible process conflicts. Discrete Event Systems (DES) theory and Supervisory Control Theory (SCT) can be applied together as effective methods of modeling the system dynamics and designing supervisory controllers to precisely sequence the many processes that such systems might involve. Classical approaches to supervisory controller design tend to result in complex controller structures that are difficult to implement, maintain, and upgrade. In this paper, a new approach to designing supervisory controllers for automated laboratory systems is introduced. This new approach uses a modular controller structure that is easier to implement, maintain, and upgrade, and deals with "state explosion" issues in a novel and efficient way.

  • In realistic control systems the nonlinear saturation attributes of the control actuator due to physical limitations should be taken into account This nonlinear saturation of actuators may cause not only deterioration of the control performance but also a large overshoot during start-up and shut-down. As the overshoot increases the system may become oscillatory unstable. in this paper the supervisor implementation which guarantees good performance for saturation operation and prevents reset wind up is presented, Moreover the sufficient conditions of the stability for saturated system using supervisory control with a dynamic controller are provided in the continuous-time and in the discrete-time domain Numerical example is illustrated to depict the efficiency of supervisory control for a typical satuaurated production-distribution system controlled by a discrete-time dynamic controller and to validate basic results by simulation.

  • Nowadays, there are many situations which the conventional control system can't be applied any more (e.g. nuclear waste disposal sites, radioactive laboratories, the deep ocean and the vacuum of the outer space). New control system must be considered such as supervisory control system in those environment. Using computer graphic robot simulation, supervisory control which can cope with this situation is compared to manual control. As a performance measure of these comparisons, task time and task error are used. And task difficulties and time delay are considered as a variation factor. According to the result of this study, supervisory control is superior to manual control generally. Especially in the situation including task difficulties and time delay, the superiority is much greater.
