The supersonic flow around tandem cavities was investigated by three- dimensional numerical simulations using the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) equation with the $\kappa-\omega$ thrbulence model. The flow around a cavity is characterized as unsteady flow because of the formation and dissipation of vortices due to the interaction between the freestream shear layer and cavity internal flow, the generation of shock and expansion waves, and the acoustic effect transmitted from wake flow to upstream. The upwind TVD scheme based on the flux vector split using van Leer's limiter was used as the numerical method. Numerical calculations were performed by the parallel processing with time discretizations carried out by the 4th-order Runge-Kutta method. The aspect ratio of cavities are 3 for the first cavity and 1 for the second cavity. The ratio of cavity interval to depth is 1. The ratio of cavity width to depth is 1 in the case of three dimensional flow. The Mach number and the Reynolds number were 1.5 and $4.5{\times}10^5$, respectively. The characteristics of the dominant frequency between two-dimensional and three-dimensional flows were compared, and the characteristics of the second cavity flow due to the fire cavity flow cavity flow was analyzed. Both two dimensional and three dimensional flow oscillations were in the 'shear layer mode', which is based on the feedback mechanism of Rossiter's formula. However, three dimensional flow was much less turbulent than two dimensional flow, depending on whether it could inflow and outflow laterally. The dominant frequencies of the two dimensional flow and three dimensional flows coincided with Rossiter's 2nd mode frequency. The another dominant frequency of the three dimensional flow corresponded to Rossiter's 1st mode frequency.
This study presents numerical solutions of the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations for supersonic unsteady flow in a convergent-divergent nozzle with a isolator. The TVD scheme in generalized coordinates is employed in order to calculate the moving shock waves caused by thermal choking. We discuss on transient characteristics, unstart phenomena, fluctuations of specific thrust caused by thermal choking and effects of isolator. The adverse pressure gradient caused by heat addition brings about separation of the wall boundary layers and formation of the oblique shock wave that proceed to upstream. The proceeding speed of the oblique shock wave to upstream direction for the convergent-divergent nozzle with isolator is lower than that for the nozzle without isolator.

Supersonic jet technology using high pressures has been popularly utilized in diverse industrial and engineering areas related to working fluids. In this study, to consider the effects of a shock wave caused by supersonic jet flow from a high pressure pipe, the SST turbulent flow model provided in the ANSYS FLUENT v.16 was applied and the flow characteristics of the pressure ratio and Mach number were analyzed in accordance with the working fluids (air, oxygen, and hydrogen). Before carrying out CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis, it was presumed that the inlet gas temperature was 300 K and pressure ratio was 5 : 1 as the boundary conditions. The density function was derived from the ideal gas law and the viscosity function was derived from Sutherland viscosity law. The pressure ratio along the ejection distance decreased more in the lower density working fluids. In the case of the higher density working fluids, however, the Mach number was lower. This shows that the density of the working fluids has a considerable effect on the shock wave. Therefore, the reliability of the analysis results were improved by experiments and CFD analysis showed that supersonic jet flow affects the shock wave by changing shape and diameter of the jet, pressure ratio, etc. according to working fluids.
The screech tone of underexpanded jet is numerically calculated without any specific modeling for the screech tone itself. Fourth-order optimized compact scheme and fourth-order Runge-Kutta method are used to solve the 2D axisymmetric Euler equation. Adaptive nonlinear artificial dissipation model and generalized characteristic boundary condition are also used. The screech tone, generated by a closed loop between instability waves and quasi-periodic shock cells at the near field, is reasonably analyzed with present numerical methods for the underexpanded jet having Mach number 1.13. First of all, the centerline mean pressure distribution is calculated and compared with experimental and other numerical results. The instantaneous density contour plot shows Mach waves due to mixing layer convecting supersonically, which propagate downstream. The pressure signal and its Fourier transform at upstream and downstream shows the directivity pattern of screech tone very clearly. Most of all, we can simulate the axisymmetric mode change of screech tone very precisely with present method. It can be concluded that the basic phenomenon of screech tone including the frequency can be calculated by using high-order and high-resolution schemes without any specific numerical modeling for screech tone feedback loop.
Recently, sensors which use the infrared light, supersonic waves, and electromagnetic waves have been used for many applications to detect information of the object. For these sensors, the accompanying system which utilizes the sensor should be systematically developed. In this paper, a general microwave radar sensor system is briefly described, and then basic applications of a CW doppler radar sensor system are introduced. For the CW doppler radar sensor applications, a highly-stable, low-cost Dielectric Resonator Oscillator (DRO) has also been designed and implemented, which can be used for commercial microwave sensor systems. The implemented DRO has output power of +5.33 dBm at 12.67 GHz and phase noise of -108.5 dBc/Hz at the 100 kHz offset frequency.
The fluid-structure interaction analysis such as a static aeroelastic analysis requires the result of each analysis as an input to the other analysis. Usually the grids for the fluid analysis and the structural analysis are different, so the results should be transformed properly for each other. The Infinite Plate Spline(IPS) and the Thin Plate Spline(TPS) are used in interpolating the displacement and the pressure. In this study, such interpolation methods are compared with kriging which provides a precise response surface. The static aeroelastic analysis is performed for the supersonic flow field with shock waves and the pressure field is interpolated by the TPS and kriging. The TPS shows tendency to weaken the shock strength, whereas kriging preserves the shock strength.
An experimental model to enhance the mixing of parallel supersonic-subsonic jet ($M_1$=1.78 and $M_2$=0.30) is simulated with a numerical technique by modeling the wall-mounted cavity to a boundary condition of oscillating pressure. The computed pilot pressure distributions along three representative cross sections show a good agreement with the equivalent experimental data. The irradiation of acoustic wave in the ultrasonic range causes the mixing augmentation of jet and wake due to the transfer of vibration energy between fluid particles.
In order to control the transonic flow field with a shock wave, a condensing flow was produced by an expansion of moist air on a circular bump model and shock waves were occurred in the supersonic parts of the fields. Furthermore, the additional passive technique of shock-boundary layer interaction using the porous wall with a cavity underneath was adopted in this flow field. The effects of these methods on the shock wave characteristics were investigated numerically. The result showed that the flow fields might be effectively controlled by the suitable combination between non-equilibrium condensation and the position of porous wall.
