Development of Identity-Provider Discovery System leveraging Geolocation Information (위치정보 기반 식별정보제공자 탐색시스템의 개발)

  • Federated authentication (FA) is a multi-domain authentication and authorization infrastructure that enables users to access nationwide R&D resources with their home-organizational accounts. An FA-enabled user is redirected to his/her home organization, after selecting the home from an identity-provider (IdP) discovery service, to log in. The discovery service allows a user to search his/her home from all FA-enabled organizations. Users get troubles to find their home as federation size increases. Therefore, a discovery service has to provide an intuitive way to make a fast IdP selection. In this paper, we propose a discovery system which leverages geographical information. The proposed system calculates geographical proximity and text similarity between a user and organizations, which determines the order of organizations shown on the system. We also introduce a server redundancy and a status monitoring method for non-stop service provision and improved federation management. Finally, we deployed the proposed system in a real service environment and verified the feasibility of the system.

  • As computer technology continues to evolve, the Computational Sciences utilized in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, and Life Sciences have been attracting more attention. In Korea, to compensate for the drawbacks in Computational Science, students and researchers have been using the EDISON platform. The EDISON platform provides a web portal service for education and research and an environment for addressing complex issues involving five fields, e.g., Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Nanophysics, Computational Chemistry, Structural Dynamics, and Computational Design. As the platform and user scale increase beyond service provision, the need for efficient operation of its currently running data management system is on the rise. In this study, we resolve the data synchronization issues between the existing EDISON platform and web portal. As the EDISON platform is integrated with the web portal, a file management service is implemented to integrate the management of user data and files, which ultimately improves the overall efficiency of file management.

  • Advanced countries centered by National Supercomputing Center are inclined to construct Grid Infra and develop key applications in high performance computing field. They are also trying to globalize the Grid project aided by research groups in nations and continents. Computing technology and application development in Grid computing environment become indirect capital of high performance computing and information technology. Therefore, Korean government would like to participate in their Grid construction and application development actively and pursue to Grid project to develop Grid industries such as IT, BT. next five years.

  • As R&D environment was changed, the research through Cyberinfrastructure emerged as a new paradigm. Advanced countries such as U.S. and U.K. invested heavily in the system for advancing R&D by building national Cyberinfrastructure. It is required to analyze how to build and utilize Cyberinfrastructure in science and technology. This paper aims to investigate and analyze the utilization status and demand of Cyberinfrastructure and to propose directions for operating it in Korea. This study is expected to be a principle foundation for decision making about developing it.

  • Since Richard Feynman presented the concept of quantum computers, quantum computing have been identified today overcoming the limits of supercomputing in various applications. Quantum hardware has steadily developed into 50 to hundreds of qubits of various quantum hardware technologies based on superconductors, semiconductors, and trapped ions over 40 years. However, it is possible to use a NISQ (Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum) level quantum device that currently has hardware constraints. In addition, the software environment in which quantum algorithms for problem solving in various applications can be executed is pursuing research with quantum computing software such as programming language, compiler, control, testing and verification. The development of quantum software is essential amid intensifying technological competition for the commercialization of quantum computers. Therefore, this paper introduces the trends of the latest technology, focusing on quantum computing software platforms, and examines important software component technologies.

  • 대용량 데이터의 분산/병렬 가시화를 위해서는 가시화 클라이언트와 서버 사이의 프로토콜이 필요하다. 기존 가시화 도구들은 개발 도구에 특화된 프로토콜을 사용하고 있으며, 이 때문에 클라이언트와 서버는 매우 tightly-coupled 되어 있다. 본 논문에서는 응용에 독립적인 분산/병렬 가시화를 위한 가시화 프로토콜을 설계하고 구현한다. 또한, 시변환 데이터의 효율적 가시화를 위해 animation을 구현할 수 있는 프리미티브를 설계하고 status machine으로 병렬 전송된 데이터들 간의 동기화를 구현한다. 이러한 응용 독립적 가시화 프로토콜을 도입함으로써 가시화는 병렬 분산 가시화를 수행하는 그리드의 서비스나 슈퍼컴퓨팅의 서비스로 확장될 수 있을 것이다.

  • SSH provides a secure, encrypted communication channel between two end point systems using public key encryption. But SSH brute force attack is one of the most significant attacks. This kind of attack aims to login to the SSH server by continually guessing a large number of user account and password combinations. In this paper, we analyze logs of SSH brute force attacks in 2014 and propose a failed-log based detection mechanism in high performance computing service environment.

  • Galaxy groups are the place where many galaxies feel the impact of the surroundings (e.g., merging, tidal interaction, ram pressure stripping) before joining bigger structures like (sub)clusters. A significant fraction of galaxies is quenched in the group environment. Such "pre-processing" of galaxies in groups is likely to affect galaxy evolution tremendously. To better understand how environmental processes in galaxy groups affect molecular gas, star formation activity, and galaxy evolution, we carried out CO imaging observations of group galaxies, using the Atacama Compact Array (ALMA/ACA). We selected all the targets that have been detected in the GEMS-HI survey for two groups, making the sample of 40 galaxies (18 galaxies in IC 1459 group and 22 galaxies in NGC 4636 group). Our ALMA/ACA observation is the first CO imaging survey for two groups. In this work, we present CO images of group galaxies, together with their star formation maps and HI images. Our ACA CO data show the asymmetric distribution of molecular gas in some of our samples. We discuss the impact of the group environment on molecular gas and star formation activity.

  • Virtualization technology is characterized by the ability to isolate the user's system environment and to support the computing resources flexibly and extensively on demand. However, virtualization technology of cloud computing, which is already well known, must overload the guest OS and the hypervisor to manage it. Container technology is emerging to solve such OS-based virtualization problems. This technology can isolate the processes under which the application is running, thus creating a virtualization-like environment with minimal overhead. In this work, we construct a container-based education practice system using Docker instead of the existing cloud-based environment. To do this, we analyze the requirements for the establishment of the training practice environment. We also analyze the functions of the container and study the method to meet the requirements. This can take advantage of the existing flexible and scalable cloud computing. Also, it maximizes the availability of limited resources by minimizing the performance load.

  • Asthma is a chronic disease associated with airway constriction due to inflammation caused by eosinophils, mast cells, and T lymphocytes, leading to serious chronic illness in children. The eotaxin gene family has been shown to play an important role in the pathogenesis of asthma. We hypothesized that the distinctive variations among the four seasons in Korea may affect the expression of eotaxin polymorphisms, especially in children. We examined the possible effects of birth season (spring, March-May; summer, June-August; fall, September-November; and winter, December-February) on the phenotype of asthma in children. All SNP data sets of the eotaxin-2 and eotaxin-3 genes were collected from 78 asthma patients and 101 controls. Here, we investigated the effects of birth season on the expression of eotaxin-2 and eotaxin-3 in Korean children. Using the HAPLOTYPE procedure with the HTR method in SAS/Genetics, we showed that children born in spring and summer show significant haplotypes in both the eotaxin-2 and eotaxin-3 genes. Thus, the expression of polymorphisms in eotaxin-2 and eotaxin-3 may vary by season.
