In this paper the design of a 1-[KVA] fuel cell powered line-interactive UPS system employing modular (fuel cell & DC/DC converter) blocks is proposed. The proposed system employs the two fuel cell modules along with suitable DC/DC converters and these modules share the DC-Link of the DC/AC inverter. A supercapacitor module is also employed to compensate for the instantaneous power fluctuations and to overcome the slow dynamics of the fuel processor. The energy stored in the supercapacitor can also be utilized to handle the overload conditions for a short time period. Due to the absence of batteries, the system satisfies the demand for an environmentally friendly and dean source of the energy. A complete design example illustrating the amount of hydrogen storage required for 1hr power outage, and sizing of supercacpacitor for transient load demand is presented for a 1-[KVA] UPS.

A new type of supercapacitor was constructed by using carbon nanofibers (CNFs) and DAAQ (l,5-diaminoanthraquinone) oligomer. DAAQ was deposited on the carbon nanofibers by chemical polymerization with ammonium peroxodisulfate (($NH_4)_2S_2O_8$) as oxidant in the 0.1 M $H_2SO_4$. Polymerization reaction was carried out with constant sonication. From the analysis, it is clear that surface of carbon nanofibers was quite uniformly coated with DAAQ. The performance characteristics of the supercapacitors have been evaluated using Cyclic Voltammetry. CNFs/DAAQ based composite electrode showed relatively good electrochemical behaviors in acidic electrolyte system. CNFs/DAAQ composite electrode showed relatively good capacitance (7 Ah/kg) compared to conventional capacitors in the range of $-0.4\~0.4$.
This paper describers a bidirectional DC/DC converter for charging and discharging of a supercapacitor. Simulations are carried out to see the operation and performance of the 3kW-rated converter. Simulation results show that the charging/discharging characteristics is sufficient for the compensation of the response delay of a fuel cell.

High performance non-volatile memory system can mitigate the gap between main memory and storage. However, no single memory devices fulfill the requirements. Non-volatile Dual In-line Memory Module (NVDIMM) consisted of DRAMs and NAND Flashes has been proposed to achieve the performance and non-volatility simultaneously. When power outage occurs, data in DRAM is backed up into NAND Flash using a small-size external energy storage such as a supercapacitor. Backup and restore operations of NVDIMM do not cooperate with the operating system in the NVDIMM standard, thus there is room to optimize its operation. This paper analysis the operation of NVDIMM and proposes a method to reduce backup and restore time. Particularly, data compression is introduced to reduce the amount of data that to be backed up and restored. The simulation results show that the proposed method reduces up to 72.6% of backup and restore time.

In recent years, the supercapacitor and hybrid capacitor have related with substitutional energy source focused of many scientists because of their usage in power sources for electric vehicles, computers and other electric devices. The storage energy of electrical charge is based on electrostatic interactions in the electric double layer at the electrode/electrolyte interface, resulting in high rate capability and long cycle performance compared with batteries based on Faradaic electrode reactions. So we have been considered to carbon nanofibers as the ideal material for supercapacitors due to their high utilization of specific surface area, good conductivity, chemical stability and other advantages. In this work, we aimed to find out that the capacitance have increased because of electrochemical capacitance to provide by carbon nanofibers. Also carbon nanofibers based on chemical method and water treatment have been resulted larger capacitances and also exhibit better electrochemical behaviors about 15% than before of nontreated state. And also optical observations with treated and nontrteated carbon nanofibers discussed by the TEM, SEM, EDX, BET works and specific surface area analyzer. Their results also focused on the surface area of electrode and electrical capacitance was also improved by the effect of surface treatments.

A hybrid supercapacitor is a promising energy storage device in view of its excellent capacitive performance. Commercial three-dimensional foam nickel (Ni) can be used as an ideal framework due to an interconnected network structure. However, its application as an electrode material for supercapacitors is limited due to its low specific capacity. Herein, we report a successful growth of MnO2 on the surface of graphene by a one-step hydrothermal method; thus, forming a three-dimensional MnO2-graphene-Ni hybrid foam. Our results show that the mixed structure of MnO2 with nanoflowers and nanorods grown on the graphene/Ni foam as a hybrid electrode delivers the maximum specific capacitance of 193 F·g-1 at a current density 0.1 A·g-1. More importantly, the hybrid electrode retains 104% of its initial capacitance after 1,000 charge-discharge cycles at 1 A·g-1; thus, showing the potential application as a stable supercapacitor electrode.

Owing to the rapid climate change, a high-performance energy storage system (ESS) for efficient energy consumption has been receiving considerable attention. ESS, such as capacitors, usually has issues with the ion diffusion of electrode materials, resulting in a decrease in their capacitance. Notably, appropriate pore diameter and large specific surface area (SSA) may result in an effective ion diffusion. Therefore, graphene and multi-walled carbon nanotube (graphene@MWCNT) hybrid nanomaterials, with covalent bonds between the graphene and MWCNT, were prepared via an edge-chemistry reaction. The properties of these materials, such as high porosity, large SSA, and high electroconductivity, make them suitable to be used as electrode materials for capacitors. The optimal ratio of graphene to MWCNT can affect the electrochemical performance of the electrode material based on its physical and electrochemical properties. The supercapacitor using optimal graphene-based hybrid electrode material exhibited highest specific capacitance value as 158 F/g and excellent cycle stability.
In this article, we described about the preparation and electrochemical properties of a flexible energy storage system based on a plastic polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate. The PET treated with UV/ozone was fabricated with multilayer films composed of 30 polyaniline (PANi)/graphene oxide (GO) bilayers using layer-by-layer assembly of positively charged PANi and negatively charged GO. The conversion of GO to the reduced graphene oxide (RGO) in the multilayer film was achieved using hydroiodic acid vapor at $100^{\circ}C$, whereby PANi structure remained nearly unchanged except a little reduction of doping state. Cyclic voltammetry and charge/discharge curves of 30 PANi/RGO bilayers on PET substrate (shorten to PANi-$RGO_{30}$/PET) exhibited an excellent volumetric capacitance, good cycling stability, and rapid charge/discharge rates despite no use of any metal current collectors. The specific capacitance from charge/discharge curve of the PANi-$RGO_{30}$/PET electrode was found to be $529F/cm^3$ at a current density of $3A/cm^3$, which is one of the best values yet achieved among carbon-based materials including conducting polymers. Furthermore, the intrinsic electrical resistance of the PANi-$RGO_{30}$/PET electrodes varied within 20% range during 200 bending cycles at a fixed bend radius of 2.2 mm, indicating the increase in their flexibility by a factor of 225 compared with the ITO/PET electrode.
An Remote Corrosion Monitoring (RCM) system consists of an anode with low potential, the metallic structures against corrosion, an electrode to provide reference potential, and a data-acquisition system to ensure the potential difference for anticorrosion. In more detail, the data-acquisition (DAQ) system monitors the potential difference between the metallic structures and a reference electrode to identify the correct potential level against the corrosion of the infrastructures. Then, the measured data are transmitted to a central office to remotely keep track of the status of the corrosion monitoring (CM) system. To date, the RCM system is designed to achieve low power consumption, so that it can be simply powered by batteries. However, due to memory effect and the limited number of recharge cycles, it can entail the maintenance fee or sometimes cause failure to protect the metallic structures. To address this issue, the low-overhead energy harvesting circuitry for the RCM systems has designed to replenish energy storage elements (ESEs) along with redeeming the leakage of supercapacitors. Our developed energy harvester can scavenge the ambient energy from the corrosion monitoring environments and store it as useful electrical energy for powering local data-acquisition systems. In particular, this paper considers the energy harvesting from potential difference due to galvanic corrosion between a metallic infrastructure and a permanent copper/copper sulfate reference electrode. In addition, supercapacitors are adopted as an ESE to compensate for or overcome the limitations of batteries. Experimental results show that our proposed harvesting schemes significantly reduce the overhead of the charging circuitry, which enable fully charging up to a 350-F supercapacitor under the low corrosion power of 3 mW (i.e., 1 V/3 mA).
