Phase Separation and Precipitation Characteristics in ZnS doped Borosilicate Glasses (ZnS 미립자 분산 붕규산엽계 유리에서의 분상 및 미립자 석출 특성)

  • To investigate an effect of phase separation on precipitation characteristics of ZnS microcrystals in ma-trix glass ZnS doped borosilicate glasses for nonlinear optical applications were prepared by melting and pre-cipitation process. ZnS dopant contributed to phase separation promotion which increased the phase separa-tion of the matrix glass within immiscibility region. It was also found that ZnS as phase separation promoter showed a similar contribution for some selected glass compositions in miscibility region. The precipitation of ZnS microcrystals occurred in thephase separable glass compoitions. The radius of ZnS microcrystals in-creased with increasing the heat treatment temperature and Na2O contents of matrix glass composition. The ZnS particle sizes estimated by effective mass approximation ranged from about 30 to 80${\AA}$ It was suf-ficiently small to show quantum confinement effect.

Supression Functions of Retrogradation in Korean Rice Cake(Garaeduk) by Various Surfactants (다양한 Surfactants의 가래떡 노화 억제 기능)

  • This study was conducted to investigate supression functions of retrogradation in Korean rice cake by various surfactants. Samples were manufactured by multifunctional extruder and wrapped with polyethylene wrap at 2$0^{\circ}C$ for four days of storage. In the thermal characteristics studies on supression of retrogradation, the Korean rice cake with various surfactants had lower onset temperature compared to the control. The Korean rice cake with GLF (glycerin fatty acid ester) had the lowest onset temperature. In case of peak temperatures, they showed a similar tendency to the onset temperature. All the Korean rice cakes added with various surfactants had low melting enthalpy values compared to the control. In addition the Korean rice cake with GLF added had the lowest melting enthalpy. Melting spreadabilities of the Korean rice cake added with GLF, SUF, SOF and PST were higher values than that of the control. The n value of Avrami exponent was 0.90 in case of the Korean rice cake added with GLF and its retrogradation was slowly progressed compared to the other samples. The Korean rice cake with GLF had the lowest rate constants of retrogradation. The recrystallinity of the Korean rice cake with GLF was relatively lower than that of the control. The rate constant of retrogradation showed the lowest value in case of GLF. All the Korean rice cakes added with surfactants were in good compared to the control in sensory characteristics. GLF exhibited the best effect in sensory characteristics during storage. In conclusion surfactant showed suppression effect of retrogradation in Korean rice cake, and GLF was best effective.

Right Bochdalek Hernia - The Third Case Report in Korea - (우측 Bochdalek Hernia - 1례 보고 -)

  • Bochdalek hernia is the most common congenital diaphragmatic hernia and that of the foramen of Bochdalek is rare in right side of the diaphragm. Two cases of right Bochdalek hernia were reported in literatures published in Korea. The first case was associated with hypoplasia of the lung and could not be survived. The second case [four months old male infant] was operated on August 28, 1971. at Ewha University Hospital arid survived. The third case was a three months old male infant who had been born at 8th lunar month in a private clinic. During the period of three months prior to admission this premature infant was suf-fered from mild respiratory distress measured as pneumonia. On December 20. 1972, this infant was admitted at Kyung Hee University Hospital with severe respiratory distress developed abruptly. Chest X-ray examination [barium study] demonstrated right diaphragmatic hernia. Right hemithorax was filled with intestines and right lobe of the liver which were repositioned back into the peritoneal cavity through the foramen of Bochdalek. 3. 0 cm x3.5 cm in size, and the defect was closed with interrupt mattress sutures. There was hypospadia with chordee but no other associated anomalies such as hypoplasia of the lung, malrotation or malfixation of intestines, and cardiovascular anomalies. The Postoperative hospital course was not eventful and the baby was discharged on the 14th postoperative day.

A Study on the Characteristics of NOx Reduction by Urea-SCR System for a Light-Duty Diesel Engine (Urea-SCR 시스템에 의한 소형 디젤엔진의 NOx 저감 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The effects of an urae injection at the exhaust pipe for a 4-cylinder DI(Direct Injection) diesel engine are investigated experimentally. The urea quantity was controlled by NOx quantity and MAF(Manifold Air Flow). The urea injection must be precisely metered and then I used the urea syringe pump. I have tested 4 kinds of items that were with the EGR base engine and without the EGR engine. Then I tested each urea-SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction) system. As the results, I can caculate the SUF(Stoichiometric Urea Flow) and visualize the NOx results by variation of engine speed and engine load. Also, I can make the NOx map. Therfore, I knew that NOx reduction effects of the urea-SCR system without the EGR engine were better than the with EGR base engine except of low load and low speed.

  • In this paper, we study the Spectrum Use Measure(SUM) model for quantifying the extent of spectrum use by existing radio communication systems. This model calculates the interference level between transmitters and receivers by applying the EMC analysis technique of interference prediction process such as antenna radiation pattern model and propagation model which are well known. While several previous works have described the spectrum resources by constructing the interference contours around existing radio systems, the SUM technique is developed for quantifying and portraying the spectrum resources used by radio communication systems in a geographic area. Computer simula- tion results are illustrated to verify the calculations for the Spectrum Use Bandwidth(SUB) and Spectrum Use Factor (SUF) performed by the SUM model and find the usefulness of the SUM model.

  • This study, utilizing several features about plane figures covered in the current secondary curriculum of mathematics and reviewing two solutions to cube duplication problem presented by Menaechmus, proving the solution by Nicomedes and visualizing solutions based on Apollonius' 'Conics' by medieval Islam geometricians such as Ab$\bar{u}$ Bakr al-Haraw$\bar{i}$, AbAb$\bar{u}$ J$\acute{a}$far al-Kh$\bar{a}$zin, Nas$\bar{i}$r al-D$\bar{i}$n al-T$\bar{u}s\bar{i}$, Y$\bar{u}$suf al-Mu'taman ibn H$\bar{u}$d, introduce to teachers and students in the field where the question of cube duplication problem comes from and which solving method has developed it and suggests new methods for visualization using dynamic geometry program as well so that the contents reviewed can be used in the filed. The solving methods to cube duplication problem in this paper are very creative and increase the practicality, efficiency and value of Mathematics, and provide students and teachers with the opportunities to reconfirm the importance and beauty of basic knowledge in the secondary geometry in the process of visualization of drawing figures using dynamic geometry program.

  • Testing ineroperability among various impiementations provided by multi- vendors is not only cistly costly but also inpossible in many real situations. The comformance testing and it's extended testing methodologies are not suf- ficient to effectively guarantee the interoperability.This paper proposes an approach to the protocol interperability test based on a real-time object model which successfully abstracts compunents of real-time systens such as communication networks.In this approach,IUT (Implementation Under Test)and the testing environment are represented by means of the RTO.k model and the resultant objests are executed on the DREAM kemel with local monitors and s global monitor.The local monitors obeserve and control the events,and the global monitor manages the call control protocol of B-ISDN UNI Q.2931 as an example.It indicated that high fault coverage could be obtained with this approach.

Study of Doppler Fluid Effects of Carbonated Water in a Bi-directional Flow Phantom Model (양방향 흐름 팬텀 모델에서 탄산수의 도플러 유체 효과 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the doppler fluid effects of carbonated water (CBW) in a bi-directional flow phantom model. A bi-directional flow phantom model was chosen to realize arterial and venous flow, and the structure of the inner and outer tanks allowed for fluid circulation and also made the size of the phantom small. Carbonated water (CBW), salt fluid (SAF), sugar fluid (SUF), and distilled water (DW) were used as fluids, and ultrasound scans were performed at depths of 1.5 cm and 3.0 cm from the surface of the tank, using B-mode and color Doppler effects. All fluids tested showed color Doppler effects, but CBW had the highest doppler shift and the least variation with depth. In conclusion, we determined that CBW was the most suitable fluid to be used as a doppler fluid and confirmed that the bubbles dissolved in CBW act as doppler scatterers, just like red blood cells inside human blood. Therefore, it is possible that CBW can be used as a blood-mimicking fluid in doppler ultrasound phantoms through further research, and this study will provide basic data.

Assessment of Practical Use of Recycling Oil from the Pyrolysis of Mixed Waste Plastics (혼합폐플라스틱의 열분해를 통한 회수오일의 이용가능성 평가)

  • In Korea, although the generation of waste plastic has been increasing, the rate of recycling is considerably low and moreover, there is no suitable method for the treatment of waste plastics. However, pyrolysis, which is appropriate for the treatment of highly polymerized compounds, such as plastics, has recently gained much interest. In this study, a property of the products from the pyrolysis of mixed waste plastics, with a possible practical use for the recycling oil produced, were assessed. First of all, in order to investigate the pyrolysis characteristic of waste plastics, TGA (Thermogravimetric analysis) and DCS (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) were performed on a number of different plastics, including PP, LDPE, HDPE, PET and PS, as well as others. According to the result, it appeared that PP was the most efficiently pyrolyzed by changing the temperature, followed by LDPE, HDPE, PET, PS and the other plastics, in that order. From the results, the optimum conditions f3r pyrolysis were set up, and the different waste plastics pyrolyzed. The recycling oil produced from the flammable gases generated during the pyrolysis was com-pared with fuel oil by an analysis using the petroleum quality inspection method on KS(Korea industrial Standard). The results of the analysis showed the recycling oil was of a similar standard to fuel oil, with the exception of the ignition point, with a quality somewhere between that of paraffin oil and diesel fuel. With respect to these results, the quality of the recycling oil produced by the pyrolysis of waste plastics was suf-ficient for use as fuel oil.

Review on Coastline Change and Its Response Along the Cotonou Coast, Benin in the Gulf of Guinea, West Africa (서아프리카 기니만에 있는 베냉 코토누의 해안선 변화와 대응에 대한 고찰)

  • The global surface temperature has risen critically over the past century and according to the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report 2014, existing risks in natural and human systems will worsen. Coastal erosion is mostly caused by climate change and among all the coastal areas at risk, Benin, which is part of the Gulf of Guinea, has been ranked very highly as a vulnerable region. Therefore, in this review, we focus on the evolution of coastline change in Cotonou of Benin, summarizing its resultant impacts and applied measures around the coast area by reviewing previous studies. Signs of coastal erosion in Cotonou appeared in 1963. After 39 years, the east shoreline of Cotonou has retreated by 885 m, resulting in the disappearance of more than 800 houses. To solve this problem, Benin authorities built seven groynes in 2013, and have increased the number of the structure as a way to interrupt water flow and limit the movement of sediment. Over the region, shorelines appeared preserved accordingly. In contrast, areas located further east, where groynes were not installed, have suf ered from intensive erosion at a rate of 49 m/yr. In the future, as a next step, the effectiveness of groynes should be studied with local and broader perspectives.
