  • Practice is essential in art and design. Through practice, artists gain tacit knowledge that is hard to acquire from conventional academic studies. This paper characterizes practice-led research in the study of fashion and textile design through the investigation of practice-led research theses in the UK. According to relevant literature, which includes four exemplary case studies, the following features can be drawn: First, the methodology is different in each case and the use of practice is unconventional. Second, the research is not always aimed at making products. Third, the structure follows an iterative process. Fourth, the ratios of theory and practice are different and various theories are used. Fifth, a personal journal or diary is used for reflection as a major aid to research. Lastly, the process should be recorded by a thorough academic method. Practice-led research can have unexpected outcomes in theory and practice. It can be a good option for fashion practice research to develop a better evaluation method and reduce the gap between subjectivity and objectivity.

  • We proposed and stratified a selection standard model on Open Source Functional Board which could be found in Web. So we could grasp the weight about Performance Evaluation from the viewpoints of planners, developers, and web disigner professional of views. We suggested applying diverse measurement types in case of item which could chart Evaluation Standards on chosen sample boards. In case of item which couldn't do that, we compared and analyzed it by using selective type of 9 point scaling method on professionalists in every sample board. As a result of weight on upper estimate section of evaluation model chart, the order of importance was convenience(0.334), performance(0.333), function(0.240) and design(0.093) respectively. It indicates that there is more weight on performance and convenience which are hard to be structurally modified than designs and functions that are directly shown to the users. Also, it was evident that opposite results came out when using 9-point scale survey and measurement with objective data such as function and performance. The reason is because the surveyed subject can have his or her own subjectivity and bias unlike objective data. However, objectivity of the administrator is also an important factor thus both two perspectives have to be all considered when selecting the bulletin board.

  • This study develops an the ideal portrait of a human being pursuing in home economics education from a critical science perspective. The practical problem is 'what should the ideal portrait of a human being pursuing in home economics education with a critical science perspective be?' was addressed through a practical reasoning research method with the stages of valued ends, context, alternatives, consequence, and a final plan. The sequential flow of understanding values and contexts established the setting of three valued ends by organizing issues and categorized areas of individuals, families, society, and cultural from a critical science perspective. The ideal portrait of human being was specifically stated, in the self-formation, independent, inter-subjectivity, social participation, and enculturation according to subcategories; in addition, the stated ideal portrait of human being was modified through expert consultations. Alternatives and consequences were reexamined for the validity of the statement and restated as a comprehensive statement of ideal portrait of a human being that included a restatement of the five areas. An ideal portrait of a human being pursuing in home economics education from a critical science perspective was made from alternative ideal portraits of the proposed human being and stated as 'a person who can continually act autonomously in one's life-world.'

  • The recent innovations in technoscience have changed the patterns of everyday lives for women and their politics of identity. Among the various debates on a women's relationship to technoscience, Donna J. Haraway's theory of the cyborg has been one of the most influential, as it provides new modes of conceiving subjectivity as well as new notions of women's shared experiences. For Haraway, the cyborg is an image of a female subject that will lead the future of science and technology as an amalgamation of non-hierarchical differences. This study examines the characteristics and meanings for the distortion, anti-aesthetic body, and clothing in fashion design through the cyborg feminism theory. Characteristics and meanings of the cyborg in fashion designs find their expression through mechanical images, distorted physical transformations, reconstruction of a destructed body, expression of an anatomical and heterogeneous body, and the persona image. Such expressions are not simply an act of distorting and destroying a body image but extending the category of a body, but of going beyond the limit of a real body and create a new body.

  • The purpose of this research is to study the meanings and characteristics of qualitative research method in LIS. As the philosophy and epistemology of qualitative research are widely different from those of quantitative research, the meaning of validity and reliability must be interpreted in its ow9 structure and dimension. Essentially qualitative researchers seek to understand and interpret the world of others from their own viewpoints which basically tend to be subjective. Accordingly, qualitative researchers‘ understandings and interpretations are met with readers' subjectivity. By carefully analyzing the nature of qualitative research in LIS, I tried to point out some problems in terms of validity and reliability and practical strategies. Six problems issued in the qualitative research method are presented.

  • As the development of information technology and thus the growth of security incidents, there has been increasing demand on developing methodologies and tools for measuring the information security level of organizations for the efficient security management. However, most works from foreign countries are not realistic in constructing the checklists, moreover their tools provide neither the ease of use nor the inexpensiveness, and most domestic works are not properly considering the characteristics of the organizations when measuring the information security level. In this study, an efficient information security levelling tool is suggested, which applies the multiple variable weights for security levelling according to the characteristics of organizations and the fuzzy technique to reduce the user's subjectivity.

  • This study aims to identify the types and type-specific characteristics of subjectivity on complementary alternative therapy of nursing students using Q-methodology and to provide them as basic materials for nursing education. Q-methodology provides a scientific method for identifying perception structures that exist within certain individuals or groups. Thirty C college nursing students' classified 35 selected Q-statements into 9 points standard, according to the level of agreement or disagreement by forced normal distribution. The collected data was analyzed by using a QUNAL PC program. Resultingly, the attitude of nursing students regarding complementary alternative therapy was divided into three types. Type 1 is positive recognition. The students who think the therapy contributes to maintaining and improving health, and is a way to protect human body and improve welfare by enhancing immunity. Type 2 is objective acceptance. The students who think the complementary alternative therapy is effective when it is properly used for specific constitutions in discussion with medical teams after its effects are scientifically reviewed. Type 3 is popularity consideration. The students who put focus on its popular use and regard the therapy as very useful for not only patients but also ordinary healthy people because it is based on the natural and human approach. In conclusion, proposed are studies on influence factor of nursing students' awareness about the complementary alternative therapy and reviews on the effects of the complementary alternative therapy that is applied as nursing intervention.

  • Purpose: Clinical nurses are at high risk of incurring hospital violence during their working life. Hospital violence and its outcomes have an impact on the job satisfaction, the recruitment and retention of nurses as well as the quality of care delivered to patients. The purpose of this study was to identify coping styles toward hospital violence in clinical nurses using Q-methodology. Methods: Q-methodology, which analyzes the subjectivity of each type of attitude, and coping styles was used. The 40 selected Q-statements from each of 35 participants were classified into the shape of a normal distribution using a 9-point scale. The collected data were analyzed using the pc-QUANAL program. Results: The results revealed four discrete groups of clinical nurses toward hospital violence: take strong action and promote the recurrence prevention, appear psychosomatic symptoms, investigate the cause and focus on prevention, and request hospital assistance and keep up my duty. Conclusion: The findings indicate that development of nursing intervention program based on the four types could beneficially contribute to the violence prevention in hospital.

  • Background and Objective : The facial nerve grading system proposed by House and Brackmann is most widely accepted for the clinical assessment of facial nerve injury. Because of the limitations and subjectivity of the House-Brackmann scale, several new scales of varying degrees of objectivity and ease of use have been introduced. To assess methods of evaluating the function of the facial nerve that have been introduced over the past 20 years, We compared with the House-Brackmann scale. Method : We referred to the information through Entrez Pubmed and Korean studies information(KSI) from 1985 to 2006 about methods of evaluating facial nerve function. We choose 7 scales that focused on objective and easy of use. Result and conclusion : Sunnybrook scale is a weighted, subjective scale with incorporation of secondary defects into a single composite score. Sunnybrook scale can be recommended over House-Brackmann scale.
