Purpose: The purposes of this study are to examine and to compare factors causing stress and coping methods between nephrology nurses working in the Hospitals of University and the Hemodialysis Clinics. Method: Data were collected by a direct survey method using a questionnaire from August 13 to August 31, 2001. The sample of 137 nephrology nurses in the twenty-one Hospitals of University and 168 nephrology nurses in the twenty-six Hemodialysis Clinics were selected for a total sample of 305 nurses. Result: Stress according to general characteristics showed a significant difference in religion and in the level of satisfaction for their work. Stress score was the highest in the nurses whose religion was Buddhism(F=4.846, P=0.008) and in the group with 'dissatisfied' for the work in the Hemodialysis unit(F=3.193, P=0.014). The results analyzed coping method according to the general characteristics had a significant difference only in religion(F=16.237, P=0.000). The score for the coping method was the highest in Buddism. The score compared the satisfaction level for their work according to the hospital type, were 3.55 in the Hospital of University group and 3.35 in the Hemodialysis clinic group and these two values were significant different(p<0.05). The mean score of the stress nephrology nurses in the Hospitals of University is 2.79 and that of the stress nephrology nurses in the Hemodialysis clinics is 2.78 of 4 point scale. Among the factors causing stress, items related nursing work and conflict in nurse-patient relationship significantly caused more stress to the nephrology nurses in the Hospitals of University than to those in the Hemodialysis clinics(p<0.05). Conclusion: This study suggests that there were some differences in the stress and coping methods between nephrology nurses in the hospitals of University and the Hemodialysis clinics. Further study related to stress management program is needed to decrease stress and use effective coping methods.
This study was performed in oder to investigate to dietary behavior, perceived stress and their correlations of University students. The number of subjects was 549 and the results of this study are as followed: Only 13.9% of students-20% of male students, 10% of female students-exercise regularly. Regular exercise and health condition had no statistical relationship in this study. 83.9% of subjects had experience of alcohol drinking (19.4% of male students, 7.3% of female students). Many students replied that they drink alcohol 1∼2 times per a week. 24.4% of students-only 2.6% of female students-were smoking and great number of smokers were drinking also. The BMI of 46.7% of subjects were in normal range. 48.2% were in under weighted and 5.1% were in over weighted or obesity. The stress factor of University students were analyzed into 12. Inner stress factors like as identity, coursework, friendship, health problem were more potent in female students than male. Among the health related habits, disease itself had a great effect on many stress factors but regular exercise had a little.
This study examined the mediating roles of parent and peer attachment in the relationship between academic stress and suicidal impulse among Korean adolescents. The 2959 ninth grade students in this study were selected from among 3211 students(excluding missing cases) who participated in the Korean Youth Panel Study. Following Baron & Kenny's(1986) suggestion, the mediator model was employed to analyze parent and peer attachment. Results showed that academic stress had a significant relationship with adolescent's suicidal impulse. Parent attachment acted as a partial mediator between academic stress and suicidal impulse; that is parent attachment provided a protective mechanism minimizing the direct effects of academic stress. However, peer attachment had no significant relationship with academic stress.
The aim of this study is to examine the influence of job stress and teacher efficacy on early childhood teachers' job satisfaction levels. Data from 321 early childhood teachers working in kindergarten and child-care centers located in Incheon metropolitan city were collected. The data was analyzed by means of the SPSS 18.0 package. The results of this study were as follow; first, job stress was negatively correlated with job satisfaction. Job satisfaction levels were positively correlated with teacher efficacy. Secondly, job stress had a negative influence on job satisfaction levels. Teacher efficacy had a positive influence on job satisfaction levels. Thirdly, job stress had a directly negative influence on job satisfaction levels. It was also revealed that teacher efficacy had an indirect effect on the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction levels.
If a licensed cook of a special-deluxe hotel restaurant and n family restaurant receives stress psychologically and physically, it will influence the interaction with customers who eat their food. Job stress is known to affect the kitchen operation and cause negative formation of interior and exterior customer management. This study wishes to present the method that can minimize the negative effect caused by stress, leading to an elevation of service quality that is offered to customers by removing those factors related to the stress of a licensed cook. This study established the range of targets to compare the cooks of super-deluxe hotel restaurants and those of family restaurants and to apply result of this research to whole licensed cooks is considered to have some limitations. Therefore, estimating job stress and turnover intention of general licensed cooks through comparison with tourist hotels and general restaurants should be significant hereafter.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify job stress experienced by head nurses of general hospitals. Methods: Data was collected from 10 head nurses with in-depth interviews about their actual experiences. The main questions were when, why, and from whom they get stress in the work field; how they are affected by the stressful situation; and how they cope with this stress. All the interviews were recorded and transcribed. The collected data was analyzed using a consistent comparative data analysis method. Results: Job stress of head nurse was formed by 3 axis; causes, reactions, and coping strategies in complicated situational context such as human relationship, culture of hospital, individual characteristics, social support. Conclusion: The results of this study yields very useful information for nursing mangers to identify, by stages, the demands of the head nurses in their role adaptation process. The findings of this study contributes to developing programs and supportive policies that palliates the head nurses' job stress.

The beneficial effects of Qigong can help us to restore our equilibrium and enhance our quality of life. This study was performed to investigate the effect of Qigong on stress and psychological symptoms. Twenty-two subjects were trained Qigong Program a week for 8 weeks. The stress index of subjects and psychosomatic symptoms was compared before and after Qigong Program and was significantly decreased after Qigong training. It means that the stress index and psychosomatic symptoms were improved by Qigong training.
Recently, constructions of huge reinforced concrete structures such as nuclear power stations have been increased. When massive concrete is placed, cracking due to the hydration heat of cement is recognized as a major problem. The development of thermal stress is influenced by the structure shape and the constraint conditions, and cracks usually occure from tensile stresses which developed due to temperature drop. In this study a protocol specimen is made to examine the distribution of temperature and thermal stress of reaction wall of Daewoo Institute Construction Technology. The size of the specimen is made by considering minimum size of real structure. In this study, concrete strain gauge, concrete stress gauge, concrete non-stress gauge, and thermocouples, are instrumented to measure thermal stress in massive concrete structure. A new measuring technique is proposed to calculate thermal stress.
Purpose: This study was designed to explore the relationship of depression with stress, anxiety and mindfulness in nursing students in 2010. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used and data was collected through structured questionnaires. Depression, stress, anxiety, and mindfulness were measured by using the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS) and the Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS). The data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: A total of 131 nursing students participated in this study. Depression was positively associated with stress (r=.81, p<.001) and anxiety (r=.76, p<.001), and negatively associated with mindfulness (r=-.73, p<.001). Multiple regression analyses showed that in different type of residence, anxiety and mindfulness were statistically significant predictors of depression with explanatory power of 67%. Conclusion: When nurse instructors manage depression among nursing students, the strategies need to address stress, anxiety, and mindfulness. This study may help nursing students to better manage their depression.
The purpose of this study is to compare life stress between primigravida and multigravida in advanced maternal age. A cross-sectional study was performed for 133 pregnancy women (primigravida group 53, multigravida group 80). The all women were old age (${\geq}35years$) and pregnant. We used the questionnaire to self-report general characteristics, obstetric characteristics and life stress. The average of participants age was 36.15 years old, primigravida was 36.08 and multigravida was 36.19. The mean of total life stress score was 2.68 and the total life score for pregnant women of lower education level was higher. The marital relationship of primigravida was lower than multigravida(mean, .06 vs. .26; p=.021). As our study shows that stress of marital relationship is higher in the multigravida than primigravida, the life stress care for advanced maternal age is important.
