  • Purpose: This study was designed to investigate nursing students' exposure experience to infectious diseases and their knowledge and performance for the nosocomial infection control. Method: The data was obtained from 292 nursing students having clinical experience at two university hospitals in Seoul from November 2005 to February 2006. Specific questionnaire was constructed and used for this study. The obtained data was analyzed by using the SPSS window program. Result: The results were as follow : 1. Among the evaluation scores of knowledge for the nosocomial infection control, the score of sterilization and the score of the intravenous therapy management were low(.14). 2. Among the evaluation scores of performance for the nosocomial infection control, the score of hand washing is low(1.63). 3. 86.3 percent of the nursing students had exposure experience to infectious disease. Many of them did not use the protective equipments in clinical experience nor took any treatment after the exposure to infectious diseases. Conclusion: Based on these results, we suggest that the programs for the nosocomial infection control should be developed for nursing students. It is also suggested that nursing students should be educated before their clinical experience to keep protected from the infection. In particular, the hand washing, sterilization and intravenous therapy management should be emphasized in the educational programs.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the daily life experiences of medical students and to explore gender differences in these experiences using the Experience Sampling Method (ESM) as the method. The instrument, the Experience Sampling Form (ESF), consisted of questions on the external and internal experiences of the respondents. Data were collected from 2,035 ESFs by 91 students (male=52, female=39) at three medical schools for one week. The data was analyzed using the statistical tests of the t-test and ${\chi}^2$ test. Activity places were significantly different by gender (${\chi}^2=16.576$, p=.001). Males spent more time in learning places such as schools, libraries, etc., whereas females spent their time in personal places, including their homes, dormitories, etc. Males undertook more learning activities than did females, and females undertook more social/leisure activities and basic life activities than did male students (${\chi}^2=18.753$, p=.001). They were in a learning place and performing learning activities. There were significant perceptual differences between males and females about their flow levels, competency levels, and difficulty levels, based on the activity type. These results can help us to understand the daily lives of medical students and can be useful in developing counseling programs and educational activities for students.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to provide basic data for a health promotion program by analyzing the effects of high school students' mental health-related factors on oral symptom experiences. Methods: This study included 24,833 high school students who participated in the screening and health survey in the "17th (2021) Adolescent Health Behavior Survey." SPSS software (SPSS Statistics ver. 21.0; IBM) was used for statistical analysis. Multiple sample logistic regression analysis was performed. The significance level was set to 0.05. Results: The result of the analysis on the effect of mental health revealed that oral symptom experience was low in students without depression and suicidal thoughts. Oral symptom experience was high in students with stress perception. Additionally, the experience of oral symptoms was low when there was sufficient subjective sleep. Conclusion: Therefore, it is necessary to develop a customized oral health education program for early detection of oral symptoms and oral health promotion in high school students. Furthermore, it suggests the need for strategies and continuous oral health guidance to practice proper oral health habits to maintain healthy oral conditions.

The data were collected from November 21 to December 5, 2001 by the structured questionnaires. The research tool was measured by 30 items divided into four dimensions; traditional, professional, social and personal image of nurse. Cronbach $\alpha$ for the tool of nurse's image was 0.8960. The data were analysed by SPSS 8.0 for Windows program using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA and scheffe. The results of this study were as follows; 1. In the nurse's image related to general characteristics, there were significant differences for school graduation, applicative motivation, interpersonal relationship and image forming factor. 2. In the Image forming factors, nursing college students perceived the nurse's image by visiting hospital or admission(37.9%), watching TV(25.8) and others; nurses' appearance during clinical experience(16.3). 3. The mean score for nurse's image of clinical experience group (2.76$\pm$0.28) was lower than that of non-clinical experience group(2.89$\pm$0.31) in significance (t=4.319, p=0.000). 4. In the nurse's image according to clinical experience, there were significant differences for traditional, professional, social, personal image between two groups and the lower mean scores were found in the clinical experience group in all dimensions. The ranks of dimensions were professional image(3.08), traditional image(2.76), social image(2.65), the personal image(2.59) in clinical experience group, whereas professional image(3.21), traditional image(2.93), social image(2.75), personal image(2.71) for non-clinical experience group.5.
