Study on the Subjectivity about Nursing Student's Image of Professional Nurse before Clinical Practice (임상실습 전 간호대학생의 전문 간호사 이미지에 관한 주관성 연구)

  • This study designed to nursing student's image of professional nurse before clinical practice using Q-methodology. Using Q-methodology, 43 nursing student sorted 34 statements selected professional nurse type. The statement positions on the sorting continuum were scored from +4(representing the highest level of agreement) through 0(at the neutral position on the continuum) through -4(representing the highest level of disagreement). Factor analysis of the data was undertaken using PC QUANL software to determine if any patterns were discernible. The three factors extracted eigenvalues greater than 1.0 and explained approximately 53.94% of the variation in responses(41.63, 7.41 and 4.9% respectively). The categories were labeled 'Nightingale's nursing philosophy type', 'Consideration of patient type' and 'Self-development type'. Twenty-two students who located to factor 1 "Nightingale's nursing philosophy type". Eleven students who located to factor 2 "Consideration of patient type". Three students sho located to the factor 3 "Self-development type". The significant differences found in the subjective structure of nursing student's image of professional nurse. The study results can be utilized in both an effective nursing education and clinical practice.

A Comparative Study Recognition of Future Career and Nurse's Characteristics According to Nursing School System (학제에 따른 진로인식, 간호사자질인식의 비교연구)

  • This study was to compare the recognition of future career and nurse's characteristics according to nursing school system. This study was based on cross sectional descriptive method. The data were analyzed by $x^2$-test, t-test, and ANOVA using PASW WIN 18.0 program. The data represented that students who were doing associated degrees or bachelor degrees, showed the similar level recognition of future career and nurse's characteristics. However they showed differences in recognition of the career where they could create and new things(t=2.933, p=.004) and working part time(t=2.328, p=.021). In regards to recognition of nurse's characteristics bachelor degrees students had higher professional ethics($4.59{\pm}.44$). This study proposed that these research results could be used for improving methodology of nursing education.

The relationship among Satisfaction of Major, Critical thinking Disposition and Nurse image for Nursing students (간호대학생의 전공만족도와 비판적 사고성향, 간호사이미지간의 관계)

  • This study was done to identify the relationship between safisfaction with major, critical thinking disposition and nurse image of nursing students. Subjects were 280 associates nursing students (2nd, 3rd, 4th grade) in M university. SPSS 21.0 was used to analyze the data for the descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, and Pearson correlation coefficients. The score for satisfaction of major was 3.81, critical thinking disposition scoring 3.52, nurse image scoring 3.85. Satisfaction of major was significantly positive correlation between critical thinking disposition and nurse image of nursing students. Therefore, increase to satisfaction of major in nursing student, it is necessary to study how to improve the nurse image by improving the critical thinking disposition of nursing students.

Image of Nurse and it's Determinants among Nursing Students and Non-nursing Students (간호과 학생들과 비간호과 학생들의 간호사 이미지와 결정요인)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to identify the image of nurse and it's determinants among nursing students and non-nursing students. Method: A descriptive correlational research design was used. All 1908 subjects were obtained by convenience sampling from three nursing diploma programs. The data were collected using a self-reporting questionnaire from April 1st to June 30th, 2005. Collected data were analyzed on SPSS Win 12.0. Result: The mean score of 'professional image factor' was higher than any other factors of image of nurse in both nursing students and non-nursing students. The mean score of 'subjective determinant' was higher than any other determinants among nursing students and non-nursing students. The image of nurse and it's determinants of nursing students were significantly higher than those of non-nursing students'. Conclusions: The findings of this study indirectly showed that the practical strategies would be needed in order to promote the image of nurse of the people who were not be related to nursing.

Nurses' Image perceived by Student Nurses before and after their First Clinical Practice (첫 임상실습 전.후 간호학생이 지각한 간호사 이미지)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify changes in nurses' image of student nurses before and after their first clinical practice. Method: Study samples were composed of 78 student nurses who were from nursing dept. of one college in G city. All participants had their first clinical practice for 4 weeks at two general hospitals in Gwangju. The internal consistency of the total scale was Cronbach's $\alpha$= .883. Results: After the first clinical practice, the mean score of nurses' image in general was lower than that of nurses' image before the clinical practice. In five subcategories, before the first clinical practice, professionalism and expertness were the highest followed by role performance, vision of a career, and temperature as a nurse in order but after the first clinical practice, professionalism was the highest score followed by expertness, temperature as a nurse, role performance, vision of a career in the mean scores of nurses' image. Conclusion: Based upon these findings, clinical practice will play an important role in improving role performance and vision of a nursing career for student nurses, so nursing administrators should make efforts to improve image of nurses in a variety of practice.
