  • In this paper, we propose an indexing model for efficient structure retrieval of XML documents. The proposed indexing model consists of structured information that supports a wide range of queries such as content-based queries and structure-attribute queries at all levels of the document hierarchy and index organizations that are constructed based on the information. To support structured retrieval, a new representation method for structured information is presented. Using this structured information, we design content index, structure index, and attribute index for efficient retrieval. also, we explain processing procedures for mixed queries and evaluate the performance of proposed indexing model. It is shown that the proposed indexing model achieves better retrieval performance than the existing method.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust controller design of RTP(Rapid Thermal Processing) system using structured uncertainty approach. Using the weighted mixed sensitivity function, we solve the robust stability problem against disturbance and temperature variation, and design a $\mu$ controller using curve fitting method against structured uncertainty. Also the reduction method should be requried because of the difficulty of implementaion with the obtained high order controller. We dal with robust stability and performance of RTP system by the design of $\mu$ controller for original model and Schur balanced reduced model. Finally the simulation results are proposed to show the validity of the proposed method.

  • The model updating problems, which are to find the optimal approximation to the discrete quadratic model obtained by the finite element method, are critically important to the vibration analysis. In this paper, the structured model updating problem is considered, where the coefficient matrices are required to be symmetric and positive semidefinite, represent the interconnectivity of elements in the physical configuration and minimize the dynamics equations, and furthermore, due to the physical feasibility, the physical parameters should be positive. To the best of our knowledge, the model updating problem involving all these constraints has not been proposed in the existed literature. In this paper, based on the semidefinite programming technique, we design a general-purpose numerical algorithm for solving the structured model updating problems with incomplete measured data and present some numerical results to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

  • A XML Document has a structure which may be irregular The irregular document structure is difficult for users to know exactly. In this paper, we propose the XML document model and the structure retrieval method for efficient management and structure retrieval of XML documents. So we use fixed-sized LETID having the information of element, describe the structured information retrieval algorithm for parent and child element to represent the structured information of XML documents. Using this method, we represent the structured information of XML document efficiently. We can directly access to specific clement by simple operation, and process various queries. We expect the method to support various structured retrieval of specific element such as parent, child. and sibling elements.

  • This study designed and developed a model of ill-structured problem solving and ill-structured problems for the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. In addition, two sets of ill-structured problems has been explored to 23 4th graders, 33 5th graders, and 23 6th graders in elementary schools in order to investigate their problem solving, creative personality, and mathematical reasoning. The model of ill-structured problem solving was suggested ABCDE (Analyze-Browse-Create-DecisionMaking-Evaluate) model and analyzed participants' problem solving procedure. As results, participants showed improvement between pretest and posttest in problem solving and the high graders showed the greater creative personality.

  • In this paper we consider the part-machine cell formation decision of the generalized Group Technology(GT) problem in which multiple process routes can be generated for each part. The existing p-median model and similarity coefficient algorithm can solve only small-sized or well-structured cases. We suggest an assignment method for the cell formation problem. This method uses an assignment model which is a simple linear programming. Numerical examples show that our assignment method provides good separable cells formation even for large-sized and ill-structured problems.

  • This paper shows how to use continuation-ratio logits for the analysis of structured polytomous data. Here, response categories are considered to have a nested binary structure. Thus, conditionally nested binary random variables can be defined in each step. Two types of factors are considered as independent variables affecting response probabilities. For the purpose of analyzing categorical data with binary nested strutures a continuation-ratio mixed model is suggested. Estimation procedure for the unknown parameters in a suggested model is also discussed in detail by an example.

  • In this paper we compare parameter estimation by Grassmann manifold optimization and sequential candidate set algorithm in a structured principal fitted component (PFC) model. The structured PFC model extends the form of the covariance matrix of a random error to relieve the limits that occur due to too simple form of the matrix. However, unlike other PFC models, structured PFC model does not have a closed form for parameter estimation in dimension reduction which signals the need of numerical computation. The numerical computation can be done through Grassmann manifold optimization and sequential candidate set algorithm. We conducted numerical studies to compare the two methods by computing the results of sequential dimension testing and trace correlation values where we can compare the performance in determining dimension and estimating the basis. We could conclude that Grassmann manifold optimization outperforms sequential candidate set algorithm in dimension determination, while sequential candidate set algorithm is better in basis estimation when conducting dimension reduction. We also applied the methods in real data which derived the same result.

  • The Environmental problem solving model is an instructional strategy to accomplish the aim of environmental education through investigation of environmental problems and issues of the community. This study is intended to compare the instructional effect of the structured model with the unstructured model of environmental problem solving. The experimental group received the structured instruction and the control group received the unstructured instruction. There did not appear to be any significant difference between the groups in regard to knowledge but in regard to knowledge of environmental issues, the experimental group was more effective than the control group. No significant differences existed between the groups in attitude. In regard to investigating skill and evaluation of environmental issues, the experimental group was significantly more effective than the control group. The experimental group was significantly more effective than the control group in regard to environmental action skills. To foster responsible environmental behavior, environmental education a number of methodologies must be considered and learners must be trained to become problem-solving citizens. It was noted that the structured instruction was more effective than the unstructured instruction in middle school where environmental issues were not taught as an independent subject. We conclude that environmental education must be systematically constructed and taught in a manner which takes into account both its goals and the characteristics of the various learners. We conclude that environmental education must be systematically constructed and taught in a manner which takes into account both its internal goals and the situations within which various types of learners explore environmental issues and solutions.
