Structure-borne noise due to forced vibration which is originated from subway operation and transmitted to buildings in order of rail-wood tie-concrete bed-structure-soil-building foundations-members of building results in social problem of environmental pollution. Moreover this becomes a serious problem because of the increment of surface traffic and subway operation made by meeting traffic system in crowded cities. Since subway is constructed along the principal road or through the residential area and as the worst case may be, building foundations is contact with top part of subway structure, it is possible that vibration resonance results in fatal damage of buildings. And, structure-borne vibration noise due to subway operation at late and early hours have the residents suffer from insonmia, restlessness and so on. Therefore, to satisfy the future need concerning the environmental protection, this report deals with the influence of structure-borne vibration noise on the basis of the characteristics of Seoul Subway System.
To reduce acoustic noise level of an AV projector, primary noise sources of AV projector were analyzed. Based on the analyzed result, methods to control each source are presented and tried. Structure-borne noise can be controlled by anti vibration design of mounting system, and air-borne noise by reducing flow resisitvity.

The paper deals with the countermeasure against structure-borne noise source and noise reduction of drainage pipes. Recently, the problem the problem of the toilet drain noise of an apartment house has been become the center of public interest and a target of public grievance. Generally, the drain noise of a toilet in the apartment house has a pink noise characteristics below 2 kHz level, and therefore, the structure-borne noise has a great effect on the entire drain noise. In order to measure the transmission loss for various kinds of pipes such as PVC pipes, cast-iron pipes and newly developed AS pipes, experimental setup containing speakers as a sound source was designed and manufactured. The second-stories measurement room with a small size anechoic chamber was constructed and the noise level for different kinds of drainage pipes was measured by the sound level meter. Through the experimental research in the study, noise reduction capacity for various kinds of drainage pipes and countermeasures against structure-borne noise source are demonstrated.

In order to reduce the structure borne noise of the equipment sufficiently, its exciting force should be restricted and additional anti-vibration devices such as resilient mount and bellows should be applied. Since the structure borne noise is dependent on the design of the base for the equipment, it is very important to design the base with low vibration. Therefore, in this research, various types of the base design for the shipboard equipment are investigated to reduce the structure borne noise. In order to design the base with low vibration, the exciting force at the center of the gravity of the equipment is firstly defined through the experiment. Using the exciting force identified by experiments, various types of base designs for the typical turbo machine are evaluated by FEM(finite element method) analysis.

In this work, the mechanism of structure-borne noise resulting from vibration of a compressor for a refrigerator is experimentally analyzed and an effective method is proposed to reduce the noise. Firstly, the emission noise, when the compressor is turned on and off, is measured and analyzed to identify the generation mechanism of structure-borne noise. And the acceleration on the outer wall of the refrigerator is also analyzed to identify the distribution of vibration. Secondly, an effective design method to reduce the noise is suggested by using the finite element analysis and Taguchi method. Consequently an optimal design of the refrigerator, which has lower noise, is obtained and then its performance and validity are verified through the analysis and test.

This paper presents to predict the powertrain structure-borne noise which is primary resource of interior noise. As the first step, it is built up a hybrid powertrain model which is based on the real powertrain which is verified with static and dynamic properties. The methods for verifying are modal analysis and running vibration testing which are experimentally implemented. Based on the Hybrid powertrain component model, an initial predictive assembly model is simulated. As the second step, the characteristic transfer functions are measured that are dynamic stiffness of rubber mounts and vibro-acoustic transfer function based on the acoustic reciprocity. Several techniques utilizing special experimental devices have been proposed for this research. Finally, the structure-borne noise by powertrain will be predict and verify with dynamic simulation and experiment.

The reduction of airborne and structure-borne noise of a shipboard pump for a navel ship is very important because the noise levels of the pump must not exceed criteria such as MIL-STD. In this paper, several practical examples of reducing the noise levels are presented. The examples show that the inadequate rotor-balancing and shaft-alignment results in the increase of the structure-borne noise on all lower mounts. It is also found that the unequal loading on mounts can cause the dramatically increasing the noise levels on certain local positions. Since the piping system arrangement such as valve location, flexible joint, and elbow location affects on the noise measurement, care must be taken to minimize the unnecessary noise from the piping system.
This paper describes the acoustic analysis of mid duty truck. The focus of the analysis is on structure borne engine noise with major contributions of 2nd order. It has been previously recognized that the noise contribution of each transfer path of structure borne noise can be varied with the charateristics of each mounts and vibro acoustic sensitivity of car body. The structure of car body will be split up into three major sub components, which are modeled separately, the engine, the frame and the cab. The acoustic performance is evaluated on three levels: engine to frame transfer, frame to cab transfer, and panel contribution from cab to driver. In order to perform these analyses, analytical models are created for the engine, frame, cab and acoustic cavity. The models are linked through a coupled fluid structure calculation, and through FRF Based Substructuring for the structural couplings. Based on the structural coupling calculations, a transfer path analysis is performed to identify the most important transfer paths. These paths are then the focussing points for applying modifications to the structure or the mount system. Finally, a number of modification are proposed and their effect is quantified.
Structure-borne noise is an important aspect to consider during the design and development of a vehicle. In this work. it was desired to identify the primary paths associated with structure-borne noise generated from the engine and front suspension. An experimental source-path-receiver model was used to characterize the system. A variety of primary sources such as engine. tires or exhaust system generate vibrations of the inner surfaces of the passenger compartment of a vehicle which subsequently radiate noise. The source was characterized by the force acting at the engine-to-body interface. and the path was characterized by pressure over force FRF's. The excitation forces were indirectly determined using dynamic stiffness of rubber mount or the system accelerance matrix. Through these analysis, path contribution diagram which is well expressed primary noise path is obtained.

Whenever a noise problem of a product is concerned, a first step is to identify the energy transmission path whether it is an air-borne or a structure-borne. Depending on the characteristic of the noise path, tools on the noise reduction are different. In this paper. an important aspect of the “mass law” in a noise transmission has been investigated. Since an air-borne has 20 dB/Decade, and a structure-borne 10 dB/Decade of a sound transmission loss due to a mass, an engineer who aims to have a light product design should have an enough knowledge on the mass law, especially, the sensitivity of the weight itself. A honeycomb plate is examined as a sample of a light structure to implement a mass law.
