This short review focuses on fouling by proteins and macromolecules in microfiltration/ultrafiltration. First, an experimental system that enables investigation of how the extent of the adsorption of proteins and macromolecules on membrane surfaces contributes to a decrease in filtrate flux in microfiltration/ultrafiltration is described. Using this system, a causal relationship - not a correlation - indicating that adsorption results in a decrease in filtrate flux could be clearly demonstrated in some cases. Second, a hydration structure at the membrane surface that can suppress adsorption is discussed, inspired by biomaterial research. In their hydrated states, polymers with low-fouling properties have water molecules with a particular structure. Finally, some successful examples of the development of low-fouling membranes via surface modification using low-fouling polymers are discussed.

The carbody underframe of TTX vehicle should be modified a lot for the installation of new devices such as an active suspension system between the bogie and the carbody of TTX vehicle, because the carbody underframe is one body structure consisting of a center sill welded with a carbody bolster. Modification operation of the carbody takes a lot of time and cost, because the huge sized carbody structure should be moved to a machining apparatus and machined to guarantee the manufacture accuracy of new device installation brackets. For this reason, modification operation improvement is needed to install new devices more efficiently between the bogie and the carbody. This paper introduce the development of 'bogie/carbody interface bolster' that not only supports the carbody weight but also enables new devices to be installed more efficiently between the bogie and the carbody. This development has advantage to reduce working time and cost to install new devices such as an active suspension system between the bogie and the carbody by minimizing the modification of the carbody of TTX vehicle.
In this study, to solve the major problem of reverse osmosis (RO) membrane, surface of reverse osmosis membrane was modified by silane-epoxy multi layer. Octyltrimethoxysilane (OcTES) was polymerized to membrane surface via cross-linking by Sol-gel method. n = 8 alkylgroup of OcTES formed the branch structure by self assembly. And for improve fouling resistance of RO membrane, Ether group of ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDE) was given to improve hydrophilicity of RO membrane surface by ring-opening. To analyze structure of RO membrane surface with FE-TEM and AFM. Membrane surface of the ridge and valley structure and the bridge structure was confirmed due to the multi-layer surface modification of OcTES and EGDE. And through the increase of the roughness, the branch structure was formed well on membrane surface. Through the XPS analysis was identified chemical structure of membrane surface. And confirmed that the hydrophilic surface modification is given to the surface of the film through a Contact angle analysis. In optimization of EGDE surface modification condition, was suitable 0.5 wt% EGDE concentraion and $70^{\circ}C$ ring-opening temperature. In result of fouling resistance test and MFI is SUL-H10, $PA-OcTES_{1.0}$, $PA-OcTES_{1.0}-EGDE_{0.5}$ 68.7, 60.4, 5.4 ($10E-8hr/mL^2$), multi-layer surface modified membrane improved fouling resistance.
Structural modification in the electrical cabinet is investigated by a proposed procedure that comprises of an experimental, analytical and numerical solution. This research emphasizes the linear dynamic analysis of the cabinet that is studied under the seismic excitation to demonstrate the real behavior of the cabinets in NPP. To this end, an actual electric cabinet is experimentally tested using an impact hammer test which reveals the fundamental parameters of the cabinet. The Frequency-domain decomposition (FDD) method is used to extract the dynamic properties of the cabinet from the experiment which is then used for numerical modeling. To validate the dynamic properties of the cabinet an analytical solution is suggested. The calibrated model is analyzed under the floor response obtained from the Connecticut nuclear power plant structure excited by Tabas 1978 (Mw 7.4) earthquake. Eventually, the grouping effect of the cabinets is proposed which represents the influence on the dynamic modification. This grouping of the cabinets is described more sophisticatedly by the theoretical understating, which results in a significant change in the seismic response. Considering the grouping effects will be helpful in the assessment of the real seismic behavior, design, and performance of cabinets.

This study intends to reduce the weight of structure without changing the dynamic characteristics. At first, the Vibration analysis by the Substructure Synthesis Method and FFM using the ANSYS are performed for the engine speed converter to confirm the reliability of the analyzing tools. Weight minimization is performed by the Sensitivity Analysis and the Optimum Structural Modification. To decrease the converter weight ideally, the parts with low sensitivity are to be cut mainly, and the changing quantity of the natural frequency by the cut is to be recovered by the weight modification of the parts with high sensitivity. As the unique mathematical solution for the homogeneous problem(i.e. 0 object function problem) does not exist, the converter is redesigned with much thinner initial thickness. The goal of this study is to recover the dynamic characteristics of redesigned structure to those of the original one. To say in the other words, the modified structure has the same dynamic characteristics and the more lighter weight to compare with the original one.

Mobile devices have become an important part of daily life. This is especially true of laptop PCs, which are portable enough to be used almost anywhere. Laptop PCs, however, cannot be nomadic if each component is not robust enough to endure rugged laptop operating environment. Generally, external shock makes collision on head-disk interface and damage to read-write performance. To minimize the likelihood of failure, shock analysis must be incorporated into the design of hard disk drive in laptop. This research explores the structure modification of laptop HDD base, for improving shock performance using finite element analysis which considers the flexibility of whole HDD structure. FE model is verified by modal test and finely tuned. Then we obtained the transmitted acceleration of spindle and pivot and the relative displacement between disk and slider head as shock response. Based on shock simulation, the structural dynamics modification is performed and the primary design parameters are extracted.
The Finite Element Method(FEM) generally used for the structural analysis has some defects, i.e. a great deal of computational time and huge memory capacity of computer are needed in the application to large and/or complex structures, etc. Therefore the Component Mode Synthesis method(CMS), one of sub-structure synthesis methods, was made to improve such demerits and has been developed up to now. In optimum structural modification problems, the sensitivity analysis method is useful, where the sensitivity-calculated by Fox's suggestion-is defined as the diffentials of design variables for the objective values. This paper discusses the vibration minimization techniques for the oper box type structure, in which it is assumed that an engine operates at 10-40Hz range. The results obtained are as follow; (1) The sensitivity of natural frequency could be easily obtained by sensitivity analysis method and the optimum position to insert pillars could be found by using it. (2) The rates of structural modification could be exactly obtained and the natural frequency observed could be easily shifted to the objective value. (3) The maximum amplitude around natural frequency noted could be nearly reduced to 1/25 by modification.
The tRNA structure contains conserved modifications that are responsible for its stability and are involved in the initiation and accuracy of the translation process. tRNA modification enzymes are prevalent in bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes. tRNA Gm18 methyltransferase (TrmH) and tRNA $m^1G37$ methyltransferase (TrmD) are prevalent and essential enzymes in bacterial populations. TrmH involves itself in methylation process at the 2'-OH group of ribose at the 18th position of guanosine (G) in tRNAs. TrmD methylates the G residue next to the anticodon in selected tRNA subsets. Initially, $m^1G37$ modification was reported to take place on three conserved tRNA subsets ($tRNA^{Arg}$, $tRNA^{Leu}$, $tRNA^{Pro}$); later on, few archaea and eukaryotes organisms revealed that other tRNAs also have the $m^1G37$ modification. The present study reveals Gm18, $m^1G37$ modification, and positions of $m^1G$ that take place next to the anticodon in tRNA sequences. We selected extremophile organisms and attempted to retrieve the $m^1G$ and Gm18 modification bases in tRNA sequences. Results showed that the Gm18 modification G residue occurs in all tRNA subsets except three tRNAs ($tRNA^{Met}$, $tRNA^{Pro}$, $tRNA^{Val}$). Whereas the $m^1G37$ modification base G is formed only on $tRNA^{Arg}$, $tRNA^{Leu}$, $tRNA^{Pro}$, and $tRNA^{His}$, the rest of the tRNAs contain adenine (A) next to the anticodon. Thus, we hypothesize that Gm18 modification and $m^1G$ modification occur irrespective of a G residue in tRNAs.

This paper aims to develop a low gate source voltage ($V_{gs}$) N-LDMOS element that is fully operational at a CMOS Logic Gate voltage (3.3 or 5 V) realized using the 0.35 μm BCDMOS process. The basic structure of the N-LDMOS element presented here has a Low $V_{gs}$ LDMOS structure to which the thickness of a logic gate oxide is applied. Additional modification has been carried out in order to obtain features of an improved breakdown voltage and a specific on resistance ($R_{sp}$). A N-LDMOS element can be developed with improved features of breakdown voltage and specific on resistance, which is an important criterion for power elements by means of using a proper structure and appropriate process modification. In this paper, the structure has been made to withstand the excessive electrical field on the drain side by applying the double gate oxide structure to the channel area, to improve the specific on resistance in addition to providing a sufficient breakdown voltage margin. It is shown that the resulting modified N-LDMOS structure with the feature of the specific on resistance is improved by 31%, and so it is expected that optimized power efficiencies and the size-effectiveness can be obtained.

The effects of alkaline treatment on the WRV, crystalline structure and sheet structure of softwood and hardwood bleached kraft pulp were investigated. Sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate were used as chemicals for alkaline treatment and two levels of alkali dosage (5%, 10%) were applied respectively. Alkali treated and untreated pulp were refined to three levels (550, 450 and 350 mL CSF). WRV of the alkali treated pulps depended on the alkaline type and concentration. It was found that the crystalline structures of softwood and hardwood pulp were not changed by refining. Sodium carbonate and lower concentration of sodium hydroxide treatment did not caused any modification of cellulose crystalline structure, while higher concentration of sodium hydroxide treatment caused the partial modification of cellulose crystalline structure. Alkaline treatment of hardwood bleached kraft pulp led to the shrinkage of fiber diameter and bulky structure of sheet. Alkaline treatment of softwood bleached kraft pulp did not cause the significant change in fiber shrinkage and bulk of sheet.
