In this study, a structural optimal design of 10 MW composite blade was performed using bend-twist coupled(BTC) design concept. Bend-twist coupling of blade means the coupling behavior between the bending and torsional deflections due to the composite lamina with fiber angle biased from the blade longitudinal axis. This can potentially improve the overall performance of composite blade and reduce the dynamic loading. Parametric studies on layup angle, thickness and area of off-axis carbon UD were conducted to find the optimum coupling effect with weight reduction. Comparing the results of fatigue load analysis between conventional model and BTC applied model, the damage equivalent load(DEL) of blade root area were decreased about 3% in BTC model. To verify the BTC effect experimentally, a 1:29 scaled model was fabricated and the torsion at the tip under deflection behavior of blade stiffener model was measured by static load test.

The prediction of combustion instability is important to avoid an obvious threat to the structural safety and the motor performance because it affects the apparent response function of the propellant, the burning rate, and a mean flow Mach number at the local surface. The combustion instability occurs in case acoustic waves were coupled with the combustion/flow dynamic frequency. In this paper, an acoustic instability model is derived from the nonlinear wave equation for analysing acoustic dynamics in solid rocket motors. The chamber pressure and burning rate effects on combustion instability have been investigated.

A novol clock distribution scheme is proposed for high-speed and low-power digital system to minimize clock skew and reduce dynamic power consumption. This scheme has ideal zero-skew characteristic by using folded clock lines (FCL) and phase blending circuit. For analyzing suitable line structures to FCLs, microstrip line and coplanar line are placed with folded clock lines. Simulation results show that the maximum clock-skew between two receivers located 10mm apart is less than lops at 1㎓ and the maximum clock-skew between two receivers located 20mm apart is less than 60ps at 1㎓. Also the results show that the minimum skews of clock signals regardless of process, voltage, and temperature variation are invariant.

In this study the probability and the reliability-based seismic performance evaluation procedure proposed in the FEMA-355F was applied to a reinforced concrete moment frame building. For the FEMA procedure, which was originally developed for steel moment frame structures, to be applied to other structural systems, the capacity should be re-defined and the factors reflecting the uncertainties related to capacity and demand need to be determined. To perform the evaluation procedure a prototype building was designed per IBC 2003, and inelastic dynamic analyses were conducted applying site-specific ground motions to determine the parameters for performance evaluation. According to the analysis results, distribution of the determined capacities turned out to be relative]y smaller than that of the demands, which showed that the defined capacity was reasonable. It was also shown that the prototype building satisfied the target performance since the determined confidence levels exceeded the otjectives for both local and global collapses.
Base-isolation is now being adopted as a retrofitting strategy to improve seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete (r.c.) framed structures subjected to far-fault earthquakes. However, the increase in deformability of a base-isolated framed building may lead to amplification in the structural response under the long-duration horizontal pulses of high-magnitude near-fault earthquakes, which can become critical once the strength level of a fire-weakened r.c. superstructure is reduced. The aim of the present work is to investigate the nonlinear seismic response of fire-damaged r.c. framed structures retrofitted by base-isolation. For this purpose, a five-storey r.c. framed building primarily designed (as fixed-base) in compliance with a former Italian seismic code for a medium-risk zone, is to be retrofitted by the insertion of elastomeric bearings to meet the requirements of the current Italian code in a high-risk seismic zone. The nonlinear seismic response of the original (fixed-base) and retrofitted (base-isolated) test structures in a no fire situation are compared with those in the event of fire in the superstructure, where parametric temperature-time curves are defined at the first level, the first two and the upper levels. A lumped plasticity model describes the inelastic behaviour of the fire-damaged r.c. frame members, while a nonlinear force-displacement law is adopted for the elastomeric bearings. The average root-mean-square deviation of the observed spectrum from the target design spectrum together with a suitable intensity measure are chosen to select and scale near- and far-fault earthquakes on the basis of the design hypotheses adopted.

Recently, studies to reduce vibration and noise of automobiles have been actively conducted. However, previous studies did not concentrate on the optimization of the mount system with passive or active mounts. This study analytically studies an active mounting system with three active structural paths between source and receiver and the feasibility has been verified. Active mounting system has a coupled structure of piezoelectric stack actuators and passive mounts. A dynamic model of the whole system is prepared and the control force and phase of the stack actuators in each path are determined to target full isolation of each path. Its performance on vibration attenuation is investigated and based on it, optimized combinations of passive and active paths for the best attenuation are presented.
The evaluation of the loss-of-support conditions of frictional beam-to-column connections using simplified numerical models describing the transverse response of a portal-like structure is presented in this paper considering the effects of the seismic-hazard disaggregation. Real earthquake time histories selected from European Strong-motion Database (ESD) are used to show the effects of the seismic-hazard disaggregation on the beam loss-of-support conditions. Seismic events are classified according to different values of magnitudes, epicentral distances and soil conditions (stiff or soft soil) highlighting the importance of considering the characteristics of the seismic input in the assessment of the loss-of-support conditions of frictional beam-to-column connections. A rigid and an elastic model of a frame of a precast industrial building (2-DoF portal-like model) are presented and adopted to find the minimum required friction coefficient to avoid sliding. Then, the mean value of the minimum required friction coefficient with an epicentral distance bin of 10 km is calculated and fitted with a linear function depending on the logarithm of the epicentral distance. A complete parametric analysis varying the horizontal and vertical period of vibration of the structure is performed. Results show that the loss-of-support condition is strongly influenced by magnitude, epicentral distance and soil conditions determining the frequency content of the earthquake time histories and the correlation between the maxima of the horizontal and vertical components. Moreover, as expected, dynamic characteristics of the structure have also a strong influence. Finally, the effect of the column nonlinear behavior (i.e. formation of plastic hinges at the base) is analyzed showing that the connection and the column are a series system where the maximum force is limited by the element having the minimum strength. Two different longitudinal reinforcement ratios are analyzed demonstrating that the column strength variation changes the system response.
It is difficult to identify reusable and independent components in component-based development(CBD) process. Therefore existing methodologies have dealt the problem of component identification based on only developer's intuition and heuristics. As a result, it is difficult to identify the business components by common developers. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new baseline and technique to identify the business components based on domain model such as use case diagrams, class diagrams, and sequence diagrams. proposed method identifies components through two phases; system component identification and business component identification. Especially, we consider structural characteristics as well as dependency characteristics according to methods call types and directions in identifying components. We also present a case study and comparative analysis and assessment to prove the practical use of our technique.
Acoustic load generated by rocket propulsion system is one of major dynamic loads during lift-off phase so that it causes the structural failure and electronic malfunction of payloads. Acoustic loads can be greatly reduced by an appropriate acoustical design of nose faring structures. This paper deals with the acoustical design of the nose fairing structure for launch vehicle. It is well known that a honeycomb sandwich structure is a poor sound insulator because of its high specific stiffness. In this paper, the sound transmission characteristics of four kinds of honeycomb structures for noise fairing were investigated by means of numerical and experimental ways. In order to estimate transmission loss, infinite plate theory by Moore and Lyon and statistical energy analysis (SEA) method were used. The predicted results showed a good agreement with measured ones. These enabled us to determine a proper core material for nose fairing, which shows good sound insulation performance per weight.
In many countries including Korea, the design concept of pavement structure has been converted from empirical method to mechanisticempirical method since the advent of compaction control based on resilient modulus proposed by AASHTO in 1986. Studies of last decades indicates that the classical compaction control method based on relative compaction and plate bearing test(PBT) will necessarily move to the methods taking advantage of light falling weight deflectometer(LFWD) and dynamic cone penetrometer(DCP) in addition to PBT. In this study, the validity of resilient modulus prediction equation proposed by Korean Pavement Design Guide is verified by comparison with physical properties of subgrade soil and the results of structural analysis. In addition, correlational equations between elastic modulus measured by various field tests and resilient modulus estimated by empirical model are proposed. Finally, a field test-based compaction control procedure for subgrade is suggested by using proposed correlational equations.
