Acoustic load generated by rocket propulsion system is one of major dynamic loads during lift-off phase so that it causes the structural failure and electronic malfunction of payloads. Acoustic loads can be greatly reduced by an appropriate acoustical design of nose faring structures. This paper deals with the acoustical design of the nose fairing structure for launch vehicle. It is well known that a honeycomb sandwich structure is a poor sound insulator because of its high specific stiffness. In this paper, the sound transmission characteristics of four kinds of honeycomb structures for noise fairing were investigated by means of numerical and experimental ways. In order to estimate transmission loss, infinite plate theory by Moore and Lyon and statistical energy analysis (SEA) method were used. The predicted results showed a good agreement with measured ones. These enabled us to determine a proper core material for nose fairing, which shows good sound insulation performance per weight.
Modeling of thick composite structures for finite element analysis is relatively complicated. 2-D plane elements may cause inaccurate result since the plane stress condition cannot be applicable in these structures. Therefore a 3-D modeling should be used. However, the difficulty to model all the layers with different material properties and ply orientation arise in this case. In this paper, an equivalent modeling is proposed and numerically tested for analysis of thick composite structures. By grouping layers with same material and ply orientation, number of elements through the thickness is remarkably reduced and still the result is close enough to the one from a detail finite element model. MSC/NASTRAN and PATRAN are used for the analysis. The proposed modeling technique has been applied for analysis of composite rotor hub system designed by Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI). Using the proposed equivalent modeling technique, we could conduct stress analysis for the hub system and check the safety factor of each part.
An investigation has been performed to develop a nonlinear finire element method for the analysis of the long-term behavior of an artificial hip joint. The three dimensional multi-layered brick element is used to analyze the design performances of hip prodtheses with various materials and the thick laminated composite hip prostheses with various layup sequences. The used element can accommodate the varying material properties of the element and allow the ply-drop-off along the eleement edge. The nonlinear finite element analysis program has been verified by the comparison with the exact solution of the bean problem subjected to uniaxial loading. By using the program, the density changes and strength ratios of artificial hip joint are calculated according to the hip prosthesis materials and the layers of composite hip prosthesis. The numerical results are easily applied to evaluate design performances of a hip prosthesis, and decrease the difficulty and time of hip prosthesis design.
In the vacuum assisted RTM (VARTM) process that has become the center of attention for manufacturing massive composite structures, a good evacuation of air in the fiber preform is recognized as the prime factor. The microvoids, or the dry spots, are formed as a result of improper gate/vent locations and the mold geometry. The non-uniform resin velocity at the flow front leads to the formation of microvoids in the fibers, whereas the air in the microvoids can migrate along with the resin flow during mold filling. The residual air in the internal voids of a composite structure may cause a degradation of the mechanical properties as well as the structural failure. In this study, a unified macro- and micro analysis methods were developed to investigate the formation and transport of air in resin during VARTM process. A numerical simulation program was developed to analyze the three-dimensional flow pattern as well as the macro- and microscopic distribution of air in a composite part fabricated by VARTM process.
In this study, hygroelastic behavior of thermosetting epoxy is predicted by molecular dynamics simulations. Since consistent exposures to humid environments lead to macroscopic degradation of polymer composite, computational simulation study of the hygroscopically aged epoxy cell is essential for long-time durability. Therefore, we modeled amorphous epoxy molecular unit cell structures at a crosslinking ratio of 30, 90% and with the moisture weight fraction of 0, 4 wt% respectively. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol F (EPON862) and triethylenetetramine (TETA) are chosen as resin and curing agent respectively. Incorporating equilibrium and non-equilibrium ensemble simulation with a classical interatomic potential, various hygroelastic properties including diffusion coefficient of water, coefficient of moisture expansion (CME), stress-strain curve and elastic modulus are predicted. To establish the structural property relationship of pure epoxy, free volume and internal non-bond potential energy of epoxy are examined.
Recently, the fire rescue truck in problem proceed research it for the fast works action and for pass the small road. So we were research for weight reduction. In this study, the (NO. 5) fifth boom of the fire rescue truck have 288 mm(W) × 299 mm(D) × 3,691 mm(L) with a maximum load of 876 kg and the thickness of 3 mm of the Steel Boom. This changing of Steel (STRENX960) to CFRP was weave Carbon Fiber NCF (±45°, 2axis) and then it make the NCF Prepreg. This process was designed based on structural analysis, the effects of NCF Prepreg (±45°) on torsion were identified, and the optimal design was made with Stacking Pattern (b). Stack patterns were optimized for levels equal or higher than existing Steel Boom and CFRP Boom stacked in the UD direction, and finally, the lightening effect on weight of approximately 49.6% of the steel was identified.

An electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) is a unique probe that does not require a couplant or gel and also can usually generate or detect an ultrasonic wave into specimens across a small gap. It, therefore can be applied in a noncontact mode with a high degree of reproducibility. Especially stiffness of composites depends on layup sequence of CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced plastics) laminates. It is very important to evaluate the layup errors in prepreg laminates. A nondestructive technique can therefore serve as a useful measurement for detecting layup errors. This shear wave for detecting the presence of the errors is very sensitive. A decomposition model has been used in the interpretation and prediction of test results. Test results have been com pared with model data. It is found that the high probability shows between tests and the model utilized in characterizing cured layups of the laminates. Also a C-scan method was used for detecting layup of the laminates because of extracting fiber orientation information from the ultrasonic reflection caused by structural imperfections in the laminates. Therefore, it was found that interface C-scan images show the fiber orientation information by using two-dimensional fast Fourier transform (2-D FFT).

To study the effects of structural difference and fatty acid chain length of glyceride, new dispersion agents having various glyceride structures such as mono-, di-, and tri-, were prepared using glycerol extracted from palm oil and fatty acid having various chain length ranges from 12 to 18. These dispersion agents were mixed with the rubber compounds and compared with conventional metal salt dispersion agents. Glyceride dispersion agent provided remarkable improvement in silica dispersion, compared to metal salt fatty acidic one, even though the viscosity of mixtures was relatively high due to low lubricating effect, and this was approved by mechanical properties, wear properties, and Payne effect. Also, the longer in chain length of fatty acid and the smaller in numbers of fatty acid, the dispersity of silica was improved.
Well-distributed $SnO_2$-Sn-$Ag_3Sn$ nanoparticles embedded in carbon nanofibers were fabricated using a co-electrospinning method, which is set up with two coaxial capillaries. Their formation mechanisms were successfully demonstrated. The structural, morphological, and chemical compositional properties were investigated by field-emission scanning electron spectroscopy (FESEM), bright-field transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In particular, to obtain well-distributed $SnO_2$ and Sn and $Ag_3Sn$ nanoparticles in carbon nanofibers, the relative molar ratios of the Ag precursor to the Sn precursor including 7 wt% polyacrylonitrile (PAN) were controlled at 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3. The FESEM, bright-field TEM, XRD, and XPS results show that the nanoparticles consisting of $SnO_2$-Sn-$Ag_3Sn$ phases were in the range of ~4 nm-6 nm for sample A, ~5 nm-15 nm for sample B, ~9 nm-22 nm for sample C. In particular, for sample A, the nanoparticles were uniformly grown in the carbon nanofibers. Furthermore, when the amount of the Ag precursor and the Sn precursor was increased, the inorganic nanofibers consisting of the $SnO_2$-Sn-$Ag_3Sn$ nanoparticles were formed due to the decreased amount of the carbon nanofibers. Thus, well-distributed nanoparticles embedded in the carbon nanofibers were successfully synthesized at the optimum molar ratio (0.1) of the Ag precursor to the Sn precursor after calcination of $800^{\circ}C$.
