Vibration Analysis of Gearbox for Agricultural UTV using a Reduced-Order Model (축소 모델 기법을 이용한 농업용 전동식 동력운반차 감속기의 진동 분석)

  • In this study, a model reduction technique was used to develop a precise noise and vibration prediction model for the individual components of a driveline system. The dynamic reduced-order model generated by the Craig-Bampton method was applied to perform dynamic analysis of an electric agricultural power cart. The natural frequency and acceleration response results were analyzed according to the different number of dominant sub-structural modes contained in the reduced-order models. Through the analysis results, it was confirmed that a sufficient number of dominant sub-structures to satisfy the operating conditions should be selected to construct an optimal reduced-order model.

  • Vortex-induced vibrations of a yawed flexible cylinder near a plane boundary are numerically investigated at a Reynolds number Ren= 500 based on normal component of freestream velocity. Free to oscillate in the in-line and cross-flow directions, the cylinder with an aspect ratio of 25 is pinned-pinned at both ends at a fixed wall-cylinder gap ratio G/D = 0.8, where D is the cylinder diameter. The cylinder yaw angle (α) is varied from 0° to 60° with an increment of 15°. The main focus is given on the influence of α on structural vibrations, flow patterns, hydrodynamic forces, and IP (Independence Principle) validity. The vortex shedding pattern, contingent on α, is parallel at α=0°, negatively-yawed at α ≤ 15° and positively-yawed at α ≥ 30°. In the negatively- and positively-yawed vortex shedding patterns, the inclination direction of the spanwise vortex rows is in the opposite and same directions of α, respectively. Both in-line and cross-flow vibration amplitudes are symmetric to the midspan, regardless of α. The RMS lift coefficient CL,rms exhibits asymmetry along the span when α ≠ 0°, maximum CL,rms occurring on the lower and upper halves of the cylinder for negatively- and positively-yawed vortex shedding patterns, respectively. The IP is well followed in predicting the vibration amplitudes and drag forces for α ≤ 45° while invalid in predicting lift forces for α ≥ 30°. The vortex-shedding frequency and the vibration frequency are well predicted for α = 0° - 60° examined.

Estimation and Application of Turbulent Flow-Induced Input Power for Vibrational Power Flow Analysis (진동파워흐름해석을 위한 난류흐름에 의한 입력파워 추정 및 적용)

  • Turbulent flow-induced vibrations generate the structural fatigue and noise problems. In this paper, using Corcos, Smol' yakov-Tkachenko, Ffowcs Williams and Chase models, the input power generated by distributed fluid force is predicted for power flow analysis (PFA) of turbulent flow-induced vibration. Additionally, the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is used to raise the calculation efficiency PFA results obtained are compared with the classical modal solutions for verifications. Analytic results using the fluid models show good agreements with those of modal analysis, respectively.

Optimization of Intentional Mistuning for Bladed Disk : Damping and Coupling Effect (블레이드 디스크의 International Mistuning 최적화 : 감쇠와 커플링효과)

  • In turbomachinery rotor, there are small differences in the structural and/or geometrical properties of individual blades, which are referred to as blade mistuning. Mistuning effect of the forced response of bladed disks can be extremely large as often reported in many studies. In this paper, the pattern optimization of intentional mistuning for bladed disks considering with damping and coupling effect is the focus of the present investigation. More specifically, the class of intentionally mistuned disks considered here is limited, for cost reasons, to arrangements of two types of blades (A and B, say) and Genetic Algorithm and steepest descent method are used to optimize the arrangement of these blades around the disk to reduce the forced response of blade with different damping and coupling stiffness. Examples of application involving both simple bladed disk models and a 17-blade industrial rotor clearly demonstrate the significant benefits of using this class of intentionally mistuned disks.

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL SUBSONIC TURBULENT CAVITY FLOWS (3차원 아음속 난류 공동 유동에 대한 수치적 연구)

  • Generally flight vehicles have many cavities such as wheel wells, bomb bays and windows on their external surfaces and the flow around these cavities makes separation, vortex, shock and expansion waves, reattachment and other complex flow phenomenon. The flow around the cavity makes abnormal and three-dimensional noise and vibration even thought the aspect ratio (L/D) is small. The cavity giving large effects to the flow might make large noise, cause structural damage or breakage, harm the aerodynamic performance and stability, or damage the sensitive devices. In this study, numerical analysis was performed for cavity flows by the unsteady compressible three dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with Wilcox's $\kappa-\omega$ turbulence model. The MPI(Message Passing Interface) parallelized code was used for calculations by PC-cluster. The cavity has the aspect ratios of 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 with the W/D ratio of 2 for three-dimensional cavities. The Sound Pressure Level (SPL) analysis was done with FFT to check the dominant frequency of the cavity flow. The dominant frequencies were analyzed and compared with the results of Rossiter's formula and Ahuja& Mendoza's experimental datum.

  • A novel Permanent Magnet based Magneto Rheological (PM-MR) damper is proposed in this paper. The principle of proposed MR damper is achieved by designing a linearly varying magnetization area with-respect to the movable permanent magnetic based piston setup. Nowadays, commercially available MR damper uses electromagnetic coils for generating the variable magnetic fields corresponding to the variable damping force. The amount of magnetic field produced by the electromagnetic coils are depends on the biasing current of voltage source. The key enabling concept of the proposed MR damper is to replace the electromagnetic coils and the voltage sources by utilizing the variable area based permanent magnetic piston setup. The proposed unique design structure of PM-MR damper has an increasing shear mode damping force with the piston movement in both jounce and rebound motion. In this research, analytical model of the proposed structure is derived and the structural design of proposed concept is verified using numerical CAD tool. As a result, the damping force is increase when piston movement in both jounce and rebound motion.

Investigation of Viscoelastic Properties of EPDM/PP Thermoplastic Vulcanizates for Reducing Innerbelt Weatherstrip Squeak Noise of Electric Vehicles (전기차 인너벨트 웨더스트립용 EPDM/PP Thermoplastic Vulcanizates 재료설계인자에 따른 점탄성과 글라스 마찰 소음 상관관계 연구)

  • Due to enormous market growing of electric vehicles without combustion engine, reducing unwanted BSR (buzz, squeak, and rattle) noise is highly demanded for vehicle quality and performance. Particularly, innerbelt weatherstrips which not only block wind noise, rain, and dust from outside, but also reduce noise and vibration of door glass and vehicle are required to exhibit high damping properties for improved BSR performance of the vehicle. Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), which can be recycled and have lighter weight than thermoset elastomers, are receiving much attention for weatherstrip material, but TPEs exhibit low material damping and compression set causing frictional noise and vibration between the door glass and the weatherstrip. In this study, high damping EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer)/PP (polypropylene) thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPV) were investigated by varying EPDM/PP ratio and ENB (ethylidene norbornene) fraction in EPDM. Viscoelastic properties of TPV materials were characterized by assuming that the material damping is directly related to the viscoelasticity. The optimum material damping factor (tanδ peak 0.611) was achieved with low PP ratio (14 wt%) and high ENB fraction (8.9 wt%), which was increased by 140% compared to the reference (tanδ 0.254). The improved damping is believed due to high fraction of flexible EPDM chains and higher interfacial slippage area of EPDM particles generated by increasing ENB fraction in EPDM. The stick-slip test was conducted to characterize frictional noise and vibration of the TPV weatherstrip. With improved TPV material damping, the acceleration peak of frictional vibration decreased by about 57.9%. This finding can not only improve BSR performance of electric vehicles by designing material damping of weatherstrips but also contribute to various structural applications such as urban air mobility or aircrafts, which require lightweight and high damping properties.

A Numerical Study of New Vehicle Hydraulic Lift Activation by a Magneto-rheological Valve System for Precise Position Control (정밀 위치 제어를 위해 MR 밸브 시스템을 활용한 차량 유압 리프트에 대한 수치해석적 고찰)

  • Recently, conventional hydraulic car lift systems face the technological limitations due to a lack of height control. The demand for height controllability is required in many tasks such as wheel alignment, and requires compensation for the structural deformation of the lift caused by irregular load distribution. In order to resolve this limitation of the conventional car lift, in this work, a new type of a hydraulic vehicle lift using a magneto-rheological (MR) valve system is proposed and analyzed. Firstly, the dynamic model of vehicle lift is formulated to evaluate control performance; subsequently, an MR valve is designed to obtain the desired pressure drop required in the car lift. Next, a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller is formulated to achieve accurate control of the lifting height and then computer simulations are undertaken to show accurate height control performances of the proposed new car lift system.

Dynamic Test of Structural Models Using $4m{\times}4m$ Shaking Table ($4m{\times}4m$ 진동대를 이용한 구조모델의 동적실험)

  • The objective of this study is to review the current state of earthquake simulation tecniques using the shaking table and check the reliability. One degree-of-freedom(d.o.f) and three d.o.f aluminium shear models were used and $4m{\times}4m$ 6 d.o.f shaking table was excitated in one horizontal direction to simulate 1940 El centro earthquake accelerogram (NS component). When the actual acceleration history of shaking table is compared to the desired one, it can be found that the overall histories are very similar, but that the lower frequency range (0~2 Hz) of the actual excitation has generally lower amplitude than that of the desired in Fourier transform amplitude. Free vibration and white noise tests have shown almost the some values for natural frequencies, but shown quite different values for damping rations, that is, 1.37% in case of free vibration test vs 14.76 % in case of white noise test. The time histories of story shear driff show the globally linear elastic behaviors. But the elliptical shape of the histories with one of the axis being the stiffness of the story implies the effect of viscous damping.

Behavior Case Study of Temporary Structures during Underground Extension Work by Field Measurement (현장계측을 통한 지하증축공사 중 가설구조물의 거동 사례연구)

  • During the construction of underground space expansion of old facilities, it is necessary to secure temporary residence space for existing residents as well as noise and vibration issues during construction, and in the case of commercial, industrial, and social use, damage is expected from suspension of the use of facilities. There is a need for a technology that minimizes noise and vibration during underground expansion, enabling the use of existing facilities even during construction. In this study, a practical underground extension model is proposed by analyzing the behavior of the temporary structure and the surrounding ground as a result of measurement at each construction stage for a actual construction site. In order to solve the problems that occurred during construction, the basement slabs were placed in advance after the initial excavation. The measurement results (building inclinometer, crack measurement system, structure inclinometer and surface settlement meter) at the site were reviewed to analyze the behavior of the temporary structure and surrounding ground. As a result, it was confirmed that the inclinometer of the building and the structural inclinometer showed a tendency that the displacement after the slab line was placed was reduced or converged. The placement of basement slabs during underground extension not only relived the noise and vibration problems during construction, but also secured the stability of structures.
