유연성과 강성을 고려한 최적구조설계

  • The flexibility as well as the stiffness is required to perform mechanical function of a structure such as compliant mechanisms, which can be applied to MEMS(Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems), flexible manufacturing devices, and design for no assembly. In this paper, the optimal design problem to achieve both structural flexibility and stiffness is formulated using multi-objective function, and the optimization problem is resolved by using Finite Element Method(FEM) and Sequential Linear Programming(SLP). Design examples of compliant mechanisms are presented to validate the design method.

Modeling and damage detection for cracked I-shaped steel beams

  • This paper presents the results of a study to show how the development of a crack alters the structural behavior of I-shaped steel beams and how this can be used to evaluate nondestructive evaluation techniques. The approach is based on changes in the dynamic behavior. An approximate finite element model for a cracked beam with I-shaped cross-section is developed based on a simplified fracture model. The model is then used to review different damage cases. Damage detection techniques are studied to determine their ability to identify the existence of the crack and to identify its location. The techniques studied are the coordinate modal assurance criterion, the modal flexibility, and the state and the slope arrays.

Backbone NMR Assignments of WW2 domain from human AIP4

  • WW domains are small protein modules consisting of three-stranded antiparallel β-sheet, and involved in the protein-protein interaction for various biological systems. We overexpressed and purified WW2 domain from human AIP4/Itch (a member of Nedd4 family) using a pH/temperature dependent cleavage system. The backbone assignments of WW2 domain were completed, and secondary structure was predicted. Furthermore, backbone flexibility of WW2 domain was determined by 1H-15N heteronuclear NOE and amide hydrogen exchange experiments. The structural information would contribute to the structural determination of WW2 domain as well as the interaction study of WW2 domain with various binding partners.

Analysis and tests of flexibly connected thin-walled channel frames

  • The analysis and tests of thin-walled channel frames including nonlinear flexible or semi-rigid connection behaviour is presented. The semi-rigid connection behaviour is modelled using a mathematical approximation of the connection flexibility-moment relationship. Local instability such as local buckling and torsional flexural buckling of the member are included in the analysis. The full response of the frame, up to the collapse load, can be predicted. Experimental investigation was carried out on a series of simple double storey symmetrical frames with the purpose of verifying the accuracy and validity of the analysis. Agreement between the theoretical and experimental results is acceptable. The investigation also shows that connection flexibility and local instability such as local buckling and torsional flexural buckling can affect the behaviour and strength of thin-walled frames significantly. The results can also provide further insight into the advanced study of practical structures where interaction between flexible connections and phenomenon associated with thin-walled members are present.

Elastic Analysis of Plates Resting on Elastic Half-Space Considering the Local Segregation Between Plate and Foundation

  • It is one of classical problems in the elastic theory to analyze contact stresses between elastic bodies. Concrete pavements under traffic wheel loads can be considered as one of these typical problems. In this paper, an elastic plate resting on tensionless elastic half-space is analyzed by finite element method. The Boussinesq's solution of elastic half-space is used to evaluate the flexibility of foundation. One of the principal difficulties in solving the local seperation phenomena between plate and foundation is that the geometry of the system is unknown. To obtain the boundary of contact area, the flexibility matrix of foundation is modified after each cycle of analysis iteratively. Some numerical examples are presented by using these method.

  • This paper presents a new approach for the use of smart materials, piezoelectric materials of PVDF and PZT, for vibration attenuation of a planar parallel manipulator. Since lightweight linkages of parallel manipulators deform under high acceleration/deceleration, an active damper is needed to attenuate vibration due to structural flexibility of linkages. Based on the dynamic model of a planar parallel manipulator, an active damping controller is developed, which consists of a PD feedback control scheme, applied to linear electrical motors, and a linear velocity feedback (L-type) scheme applied to either PVDF layer or PZT actuator(5). Simulation results show that piezoelectric materials yield good damping performance, resulting in precise manipulations of a planar parallel manipulator.

In the paper, Mindlin plate theory is used to consider the transverse shear effect, 8-node isoparametric plate bending element is adopted in this study, and an elastic plate resting on tensionless elastic half-space is analyzed by finite element method. The Boussineq's solution of elastic half-space is used to evaluate the flexibility of foundation. To obtain the boundary of contact area, the flexibility matrix of foundation is modified after each cycle of analysis iteratively. A Numerical example is presented by using these method.

  • The cable structures undergo large deformation because of its highly flexibility. Therefore, we must take account of its geometric nonlinearity before analysis and find the equiribrated shape of cable structures. To solve these problems, a numerical procedures included nonlinear near theory which is applicable to general cable net, flexible transmission lines and suspended cable roofs, are presented in this paper. Now, this procedures are devided two parts : the one is to obtain the equibrated shape and stress of the cable structures applied uniform load by flexibility iteration method, the other is to analysis the equibrated structures subjected to nodal external forces by nonlinear finite element mothed. Its accuracy and efficiency are found to be comparable to some of other method and, in some aspect, it is mere applicable to cable structures.

  • High performance requirements such as high speed operation. accuracy and versatility have led to the consideration of structural flexibility in robot arms. The purpose of this study is to investigate the interrelationships between the robot structural flexibility and a linear controller for the rigid body motion. This paper employs an assumed modes method to model both the rigid and flexible motion of the robot arm. The simulation results illustrate the differences between leadscrew driven and unconstrainted axes of the robot.

  • This paper deals with the computer generation of Korean characters by the structural coding which results in higher flexibility and compactness. Our method by which Korean characters are designed is characterized as follows : The list of primitives for Korean text is extracted by structural coding rule, and the knowledge-base is used for handling various primitives.
