Based on a refined shear deformation finite strip, transient vibrations of graphene oxide powder (GOP) reinforced plates due to external pulse loads have been investigated. The plate has uniformly and linearly distributed GOPs inside material structure. Applied pulse loads have been selected as sinusoidal, linear and blast types. Such pulse loads result in transient vibrations of the GOP-reinforced plates which are not explored before. Finite strip method (FSM) has been performed for solving the equations of motion and then inverse Laplace transform technique has been employed to derive transient responses due to pulse loading. It is reported in this study that the transient responses of GOP-reinforced plates are dependent on GOP dispersions, GOP volume fraction, type of pulse loading, loading time and load locations.
Increase in tensile strength of steel is important for fuel efficiency and $CO_2$ reduction. But the higher the strip strength, the more defect could be generated in hot strip mill. This study focuses on line-type edge scab. One of the causes for the defect is initial edge cracks commonly observed on a slab but their correlation has not been verified yet. Thus, the objective of this report is to verify if the edge crack is exactly the seed for edge scab. For this, we conducted pilot hot rolling test with cracked slab and compared the development of cracks and edge scabs on hot-rolled strip.
In this study, a fuzzy theory is introduced to control the cross-sectional strip shape in cold rolling. A fuzzy controller is developed based on the production data and the operational knowledge. The cold rolled products are characterized into several types based on their irregularities. For each type of irregular strip shape, fuzzy controller calculates the changes of bender forces of work and intermediate rolls using fuzzy control algorithm. To simulate the continuous shape control, fuzzy controller is linked with emulator which is developed using neural network. The developed fuzzy controller and emulator simulate the cold rolling process until the irregularities converge to the tolerable range to produce unifrom cross-sectional strip shape. The results from this simulation are reasonable for various irregular strip shapes.
Air-cooled heat sinks are employed in many electronic cooling applications since they provide significant heat transfer enhancement and operational flexibility. Strip-shaped fin heat sink is of interest and needs to be investigated as general cooling products for more applicability. The purposes of this study are to evaluate heat sink performance without bypass flow condition and to determine optimal heat sink geometries. The results show that the decreasing rate of thermal resistance of a heat sink decreases with increasing inlet air velocity, and the increasing rate of pressure drop increases with increasing inlet air velocity, but is not affected by input power. The increasing rate of optimal longitudinal fin spacing is larger than that of transverse fin spacing. The strip fin heat sink tested in this study showed better cooling performance compared to that of other plate fin type.matism. 2004; 50(11): 3504-3515.
In the present study, a recuperator is suggested to improve the thermal efficiency of a micro gas turbine. Primary design parameters of the recuperator are determined from the ideal cycle analysis. The counter flow plate-fin heat exchanger with offset strip fins is chosen as the type of the recuperator. In order to satisfy the design constraints which are the minimum effectiveness and the maximum pressure drop, the optimization for the internal structure of the recuperator is performed with varying the fin spacing and the fin height of offset strip fins. Also the effects of the thermal conductivity of fins and separation plates and the longitudinal heat conduction on the thermal performance of the recuperator are investigated.
Strip footing is an important type of shallow foundations and is commonly used beneath the walls. Analysis of shallow foundation involves the determination of stresses and deformations. Element free Galerkin method, one of the important mesh free methods, is used for the determination of stresses and deformations. Element free Galerkin method is an efficient and accurate method as compared to finite element method. The Element Free Galerkin method uses only a set of nodes and a description of model boundary is required to generate the discrete equation. Strip footing of width 2 m subjected to a loading intensity of 200 kPa is studied. The results obtained are agreeing with the values obtained using analytical solutions available in the literature. Parametric study is done and the effect of modulus of deformation, Poisson's ratio and scaling parameter on deformation and stresses are determined.

A development of disposable strip-type galactose sensor for point-of-care testing (POCT) was studied, which was constructed using screen-printed carbon electrodes. Galactose levels were determined by the redox reaction of galactose oxidase in the presence of potassium ferricyanide as an electron transfer mediator in a small sample volume (i.e., less than 1 µL). The optimal performance of biosensor was systematically designated by varying applied potential, operating pH, mediator concentration, and amount of enzyme on the electrode. The sensor system was identified as a highly active for the galactose measurement in terms of the sensitivity (slope = 4.76 ± 0.05 nA/µM) with high sensor-to-sensor reproducibility, the linearity (R2 = 0.9915 in galactose concentration range from 0 to 400 µM), and response time (t95% = <17 s). A lower applied potential (i.e., 0.25 V vs. Ag/AgCl) allowed to minimize interference from readily oxidizable metabolites such as ascorbic acid, acetaminophen, uric acid, and acetoacetic acid. The proposed galactose sensor represents a promising system with advantage for use in POCT.
In this paper, the performance of under-foundation isolators against generally annoying train-induced vibrations was examined experimentally. The effect of foundation type on the efficacy of such isolators was investigated for the first time. To this end, laboratory models including a soil container, soil, building with three types of foundation (i.e., single, strip, and mat), and isolator layer were employed. Through various dynamic tests, the effects of foundation type, isolation frequency, and the dominant frequency of train load on the isolator's performance were studied. The results demonstrated that the vibration level in the unisolated building with the strip and mat foundation was, respectively, 29 and 38% lower than in the building with the single foundation. However, the efficacy of the isolator in the building with the single foundation was, respectively, 21 and 40% higher than in the building with the strip and mat foundation. Furthermore, a lower isolation frequency and a higher excitation frequency resulted in greater isolator efficacy. The best vibration suppression occurred when the excitation frequency was close to the floor's natural frequency.
The multi-piloting type progressive die for U-bending sheet metal production part is a very specific division. This study reveals the sheet metal forming process with multi-forming die by center carrier type feeding system. Through the FEM simulation by DEFORM, it was accepted to u-bending process as the first performance to design of strip process layout. The next process of die development was studied according to sequence of die development, i.e die structure, machining condition for die making, die materials, heat treatment of partially die components, know-how and so on. The feature of this study is the die development of scrapless progressive die of multi-stage through the modeling on the I-DEAS program, components drawing on the Auto-LISP, CAD/CAM application, ordinary machine tool operating and revision by tryout.
