  • In the impact echo method, a stress pulse is introduced into an object at on accessible surface by a transmitter. The pulse propagates into the test object and is reflected by flaws or interfaces. In this paper, void and crack locations of concrete specimens were detected using impact echo method. In their modal identification procedures, the double least squares solution for Ibrahim Time Domain technique was used.

  • Sensitized STS 304 stainless steel crack growth rate(CGR) in high temperature water was investigated under trapezoidal wave loading test using fracture mechanics techniques. The CGR, due to stress corrosion cracking(SCC), were systematically measured as a function of the stress intensity factor and stress. holding time under trapezoidal wave loading. In high temperature water, CGR was enhanced by a synergistic effects in combination with an aggressive environment and mechanical damage. The CGR, $(da/dN)_{env}$ was basically described as a summation of the environmentally assisted crack growth rate $(da/dN)_{SCC}$, $(da/dN)_{CF}$ and fatigue crack growth rate in air $(da/dN)air,. The CGR, $(da/dN)_{env}$, increased linearly with increasing stress holding time. The CGR, $(da/dN)_{SCC}$ decreased linearly with increasing stress holding time. Fracture surface mode varied from trans-granular cracking to inter-granular cracking with increasing stress holding time.

  • This Quasi-experimental study was started under the assumption that the stress of students who participated in Buddhism and Mind Healing Lectures based on an understanding of the scriptures will be relieved through the lectures, thereby enhancing their psychological stability, thinking ability, and enhancing understanding. Stress can be confirmed through a self-report test, but in this study, quantitative EEG was measured to evaluate the stress level and secure objectivity. To this end, the difference between the 1st week as pre and 15th week as post quantitative EEG was verified for the experimental group taking the Buddhism and Mind Healing Lecture held from March to June 2019 at S University in G-gu, Seoul, and the control group who did not. The Mann Whitney U test and Wilcoxon code ranking test were used as analysis methods because the number of subjects was 14. As a result, there was a significant difference in the beta wave (F7, T3, 4, T5) and the high beta wave (F7, F8, T3, T4) in the experimental group. The coherence was also improved, while there was no significant difference in the control group. Buddhism and Mind Healing Lectures improved stress.

  • The split Hokinson pressure bar(SHPB) test has been used to find the mechanical property of materials at high strain rate. A tensile split Hopkinson pressure bar test system is developed and the threaded tensile specimen and the split collar are placed between elastic bars. When the compressive elastic wave generated by a striker is transferred from the transmit bar to the incident bar, some elastic wave is reflected at the threaded parts of the specimen and the transmit bar. This reflected wave can interfere with the transmitted wave. A proper length of elastic bars and the location of strain gage in these elastic bars are determined to avoid this interference. In order to avoid the interference of elastic wave reflected at the threaded parts of specimen and elastic bar, the length of transmit bar must be longer than that of incident bar. Strain gage in transmit bar must be located as close as possible from the interface of a transmit bar and specimen. In the developed tensile SHPB test system, A12011-T3 and A17075-T6 are tested to get the true stress-strain relation in the range of strain rate at $10^3/sec$

  • The domestic and foreign scholars conducted many studies on mechanical properties of wave web steel beam and high-strength spiral stirrups confined concrete columns. Based on the previous research work, studies were conducted on the anti-seismic property of the end plate bolt connected wave web steel beam and high-strength spiral stirrups confined concrete column nodes applied with pre-tightening force. Four full-size node test models in two groups were designed for low-cycle repeated loading quasi-static test. Through observation of the stress, distortion, failure process and failure mode of node models, analysis was made on its load-carrying capacity, deformation performance and energy dissipation capacity, and the reliability of the new node was verified. The results showed that: under action of the beam-end stiffener, the plastic hinges on the end of wave web steel beam are displaced outward and played its role of energy dissipation capacity. The study results provided reliable theoretical basis for the engineering application of the new types of nodes.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the impact resposes(impulsive stress and strain etc.) of anisotropic materials subjected to the low-velocity impact. For this purpose, a beam finite element program based on modified higher-order beam theory for anisotropic materials are developed and used to simulate the dynamic behaviors [contact force, displacement of ball and target, strain(stress) response histories] according to the changes of material property, stacking sequence, velocity and dimension etc.. Test materials for simulation are composed of $[0^{\circ}/45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}]_{2s} and [90^{\circ}/45^{\circ}/90^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}/90^{\circ}]_{2s}$ stacking sequences. Finally, the results of this simulation are compared with those of wave propagation theory and then the impact responses and wave propagation phenomena are investigated.

  • By using EEG and HRV, subjects were estimated on their psychological and physiological reaction when reading psychrometric chart in 7 point century font, in an environmental test room in the condition of temperature 25[$^{\circ}C$], relative humidity 50[RH%], air current speed 0.02[m/sec], giving variation in illuminance to 0.1, 300, 600, 1000, 1300 and 1600[lux]. As a result, it was at 1300[lux] that absolute ${\alpha}$ wave, SMR, SDNN were most vitalized, and also both sides ${\alpha}$ wave asymmetry index, SEF50, HRT, stress and fatigue degree were at the lowest. It was found that a certain illuminance which minimizes psychological stress and fatigue degree while enhancing concentration and task achievement stably does exist.

  • This paper investigates the effect of rock discontinuities on a shear stress wave that is induced by earthquake or blasting and provides the result of numerical parametric studies. The numerical tests of different conditions of rock and discontinuity have been carried out after confirming that the numerical approach is valid throughout a verification analysis from which the test results were compared with a theoretical solution. In-situ stress condition was considered as a rock condition and internal friction angle and cohesive value, which are the shear strength parameters, were considered as discontinuities condition. The joint inclination angle was also taken into account as a parameter. With the various conditions of different parameters, the test results showed that a shear stress wave propagating through a mass is highly influenced by the shear strength of discontinuities and the condition of joint inclination angle as well as in-situ stress. The study results indicate that when earthquake or blasting-induced dynamic loading propagates through a jointed rock mass or a stratified soil ground the effect of in-situ stress and discontinuities including a stratum boundary should be taken into account when evaluating the dynamic effect on nearby facilities and structures.

  • The penetration testing provides 1 dimensional profiles of properties applicable to limited investigation areas, although N-value has been linked to a wide range of geotechnical design parameters based on empirical correlations. The nondestructive test using elastic waves is able to produce 2 or 3 dimensional property maps by inversion process with high efficiency in time and cost. As both N-value and elastic wave velocities share common dominant factors that include void ratio, degree of saturation, and in-situ effective stress, the correlation between the two properties has been empirically proposed by previous studies to assess engineering properties. This study presents the experimentally measured elastic wave velocities of Jumunjin sands under at-rest lateral displacement condition with varying the initial void ratio and degree of saturation. Results show that the stress condition predominantly influences the wave velocities whereas void ratio and saturation determine the stress-velocity tendency. The correlation among the dominant factors is proposed by multiple regression analysis with the discussion of relative impacts on parameters.
