  • This study analyzed that the impact of the bus use environment on users' stress in each step of bus use, from accessing to leaving to transfer, in the city of Daejeon. For this, we collected the stress data from 300 users using personal interviews at the bus stops and on-board bus. Also, we used factor analysis and structural equation model method for analysis of the impact of external and internal bus environments on stress of users. The results of this study showed that the highest stress impact factor was an onboard factor(${\beta}=.416$) including 'density and crowding', 'no seat to seat' and 'low ride comfort and safe'. The next stress impact factor was transfer factor including 'insufficient transfer information', 'lack of connectivity of bus and subway' and 'uncomfort transfer route'. From the above, we recommend that bus policies need to focus on not the supplier but users and also, this user based policy need to be more specified considering the characteristics of various users such as females, the elderly, irregular users, and so on.

  • A Pin-fin array is widely used to enhance the heat transfer in the internal cooling passage. The heat transfer distribution around the pin-fin is varied by the horseshoe vortex and flow separation. The difference of heat transfer coefficient induces the large thermal stress, which is one of the major reasons to break of hot components. So, it is required to enhance the heat transfer on the back side of pin-fin to solve the thermal stress problem. This study suggests the pin-fin with inclined jet hole and complex pin-fin/dimple array to enhance the heat transfer on the back side of pin-fin. The heat transfer coefficient is predicted by the numerical analysis, which is performed by CFX 14.0. The numerical results are obtained at Reynolds number, 10,000. The results show that the heat transfer on the back side of pin-fin is increased in both cases. Beside, the wake, which comes from dimple and jet, helps to develop the horseshoe vortex and increase the heat transfer on the next row pin-fin.

  • The effects of osmotic stress on the non-specific immune response of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, were investigated. Osmoregulatory mechanism of tilapia has been studied, but less information is available about innate immune response of O. niloticus faced with hyperosmolality. Acute osmotic stress was elicited by transferring tilapia from freshwater (FW) to 24 psu seawater (SW). Non-specific immune parameters including lysozyme activities of plasma and head kidney (HK), alternative complement pathway (ACP) activity in plasma, phagocytic capacities of spleen and HK immune cells, and respiratory burst activity of immune cells in both HK and spleen were analyzed. Lysozyme activities were increased at 1 h and 30 h after transfer to SW, but decreased at 10 h after SW transfer. Conversely, ACP activity increased 10 h after SW transfer. Phagocytic capacity increased slightly at 1 h and 5 h after SW transfer, and respiratory burst activity showed an increase in superoxide release at 10 h after SW transfer. Taken together, these results indicate that the exposure of tilapia to hyperosmotic conditions has immunostimulatory effects on cellular and humoral immune reactions.

  • Temperature distribution in the GTD111 turbine blade used in power plaints is calculated by heat transfer analysis. Linear stress analysis of the turbine blade is also carried out under thermal loads and centrifugal forces. The numerical results of steady state heat transfer analysis slow that high temperature distribution occurs at the leading edge and tip section of the blade. The thermal stress result indicates that the equivalent stress at the tip of the pressure surface is higher than other sections of the blade. Maximum centrifugal stresses without the thermal effect occurs at the front of the fir tree. From the thermal-centrifugal stress analysis, maximum equivalent stress occurs at the fir tree. Stresses applied by the thermal loads and centrifugal forces are less than the yield stress. The GTD111 turbine blade is safe to be used in the power plants.

  • We examined the effects of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress inhibitor treatment during the micromanipulation of porcine somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) on the in vitro development of SCNT embryos. ER stress inhibitors such as salubrinal (200 nM) and tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA; $100{\mu}M$) were added to the micromanipulation medium and holding medium. The expression of X-box binding protein 1 (Xbp1), ER-stress-associated genes, and apoptotic genes in SCNT embryos was confirmed at the one-cell and blastocyst stages. Levels of Xbp1 splicing and expression of ER-stress-associated genes in SCNT embryos at the one-cell stage decreased significantly with TUDCA treatment (p<0.05). The expression of ER-stress-associated genes also decreased slightly with the addition of both salubrinal and TUDCA (Sal+TUD). The expression levels of caspase-3 and Bcl2-associated X protein (Bax) mRNA were also significantly lower in the TUDCA and Sal+TUD treatments (p<0.05). At the blastocyst stage, there were no differences in levels of Xbp1 splicing, and transcription of ER-stress-associated genes and apoptosis genes between control and treatment groups. However, the blastocyst formation rate (20.2%) and mean blastocyst cell number ($63.0{\pm}7.2$) were significantly higher (p<0.05) for embryos in the TUDCA treatment compared with those for control (12.6% and $41.7{\pm}3.1$, respectively). These results indicate that the addition of ER-stress inhibitors, especially TUDCA, during micromanipulation can inhibit cellular damage and enhance in vitro development of SCNT embryos by reducing stress levels in the ER.

  • We examine the effect of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress inhibitor treatment time on the in vitro development of porcine somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) embryos. Porcine SCNT embryos were classified by four groups following treatment time of ER stress inhibitor, tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA; 100 µM); 1) non-treatment group (control), 2) treatment during micromanipulation process and for 3 h after fusion (NT+3 h group), 3) treatment only during in vitro culture after fusion (IVC group), and 4) treatment during micromanipulation process and in vitro culture (NT+IVC group). SCNT embryos were cultured for six days to examine the X-box binding protein 1 (Xbp1) splicing levels, the expression levels of ER stress-associated genes, oxidative stress-related genes, and apoptosis-related genes in blastocysts, and in vitro development. There was no significant difference in Xbp1 splicing level among all groups. Reduced expression of some ER stress-associated genes was observed in the treatment groups. The oxidative stress and apoptosis-related genes were significantly lower in all treatment groups than control (p<0.05). Although blastocyst development rates were not different among all groups (17.5% to 21.7%), the average cell number in blastocysts increased significantly in NT+3 h (48.5±2.3) and NT+IVC (47.7±2.4) groups compared to those of control and IVC groups (p<0.05). The result of this study suggests that the treatment of ER stress inhibitor on SCNT embryos from the micromanipulation process can improve the reprogramming efficiency of SCNT embryos by inhibiting the ER and oxidative stresses that may occur early in the SCNT process.

  • In real design of the high & interim pressure turbine casing, it is one of the important things to figure out its thermal strain exactly. In this paper, with the establishment of the new concept for the heat transfer coefficient of steam that is one of the factors in analysis of the thermal stress for turbine casing, an analysis was done for one of the high & interim pressure turbine casings in operating domestically. The sensitivity analysis of the heat transfer coefficient of steam to the thermal strain of the turbine casing was done with a 2-D simple model. The analysis was also done with switching of the material properties of the turbine casing and resulted in that the thermal strain of the turbine casing was not so sensitive to the heat transfer coefficient of steam. On the basis of this, 3-D analysis of the thermal strain for the high and interim pressure turbine casing was done.

  • Heat and moisture transfer associated with porous materials are investigated. The heat and moisture transfer in porous materials caused by the interaction of moisture gradient, temperature gradient, conduction, and evaporation are considered. The variations of temperature and moisture not only change the volume but also induce the hygro-thermal stress. The finite element formulation for solving the temperature and moisture transfer as well as the associated hygro-thermal stresses is developed. In order to verify the finite element formulation, the heat and moisture moving boundary problem in a half space and the hygro-thermo-mechanical problem in an infinite plate with a circular hole are analyzed. Temperature profile, moisture profile, and hygro-thermal stresses are compared with those of analytic solution and other investigator. Good agreements are examined

  • The study is concerned with the coupled analysis of heat transfer and thermoelastoplastic deformation. The thermoelastoplastic model is very useful for the analysis of residual stress and the analysis of thermal stress as well as the analysis of metal forming. Heat of deformation, phase transformation and contact heat transfer boundary are considered. The contact heat transfer boundary is treated by the interpolation of shape function. The analysis of deformation and the analysis of heat transfer are carried out for the could upsetting and the hot rolling. The computed results are found to be in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • This paper presents load transfer efficiency of skewed transverse joint of jointed concrete pavement with the fatigue model test. A 1/12 scale model was used to satisfy the geometry, loading, material similitude, which are variables to the skew angel of transverse joint. As the test results by fatigue load 700kgf applied, the deflection and stress of transverse joint were decreased as to increasing of skew angle of transverse joint. In addition, load transfer efficiency of transverse joint with skew angle is better than the load transfer efficiency of transverse joint without skew angle.
