  • It is known that the reduced integration, modified shape function, anisoparametric and non-conforming element can reduce the error induced by stiffness locking phenomenon in the finite element analysis. In this study, we propose new anisoparametric curved beam element. The new element based on reduced minimization theory is composed of different shape functions in each displacement field. By the substitution of this modified shape function, the unmatched coefficient that cause stiffness locking in the constraint energy is eliminated. To confirm the availability of this new model, we performed numerical tests for a simple model. As a result of numerical test, the undulate stress patterns are disappeared in static analysis, and displacements and stresses are close to exact solution. Not only in the static analysis but also in the eigen analysis of free vibrated curved beam model, this element shows successful convergent results.

  • PKR-like endoplasmic reticulum (ER) kinase (PERK) is a type I transmembrane ER-resident protein containing a cytoplasmic catalytic domain with a Ser/Thr kinase activity, which is most closely related to the eukaryotic translation initiation factor-$2{\alpha}$ ($eIF2{\alpha}$) kinase PKR involved in the antiviral defense pathway by interferon. We cloned and expressed the PERK C-terminal kinase domain (cPERK) in Escherichia coli. Like PERK activation in cells under ER stress, wild-type cPERK underwent autophosphorylation when overexpressed in E. coli, whereas the cPERK(K621M) with a methionine substitution for the lysine at amino acid 621 lost the autophosphorylation activity. The activated form cPERK which was purified to near homogeneity, formed an oligomer and was able to trans-phosphorylate specifically its cellular substrate $eIF2{\alpha}$. Two-dimensional phosphoamino acids analysis revealed that phosphorylation of cPERK occurs at the Ser and Thr residues. The functionally active recombinant cPERK, and its inactive mutant should be useful for the analysis of biochemical functions of PERK and for the determination of their three-dimensional structures.

  • Steel net gabion is eco-friendly retaining wall structure showing favorable ability to overcome construction and environmental restriction and also to resist corrosion, chemical attack and degradation. This paper is dealt with the applicability of gabion metal net as a substitution of existing strengthening material. Pull out test was carried out to verify the applicability of gabion metal net. According to results, the increase of surcharge loading and horizontal load resulted in a yield of metal net. The stress at the time of yield was in the range of elasticity. Accordingly, gabion metal net can be substituted for existing geogrid and there is a need for experiment and analysis of arrangement direction and durability of gabion steel net.

  • This research goes into the field application cases about Flat slab concrete divide placing construction for the Multi-purpose Apartment. It is important to investigate sufficiently when mass concrete is applied to the substituted divide placing and admixture(blast furnace slag and fly ash). In addition, it is improved on the concrete quality by the job mix design which can decrease cracks caused by the heat of hydration, by the good compactability and the substitution of admixture that can prevent segregation when concrete is poured, and by the good conditioned fluidity which makes the efficiency of building construction. After considering the stated above, the sufficient prior consideration is important for a quality Improvement plan at the field use concrete of the Mass Concrete when divide placing and admixture are substituted and applied.

  • Dielectric properties of $Ba_{0.9}Ca_{0.1}(Ti_{1-x}Sn_x)O_3$ were investigated from x=0 to 0.20, and temperature range -4$0^{\circ}C$~13$0^{\circ}C$ Density and grain size decreased with increasing Sn content due to grain growth inhibitor. Dielectric constant below the Curie temperature increased with increasing Sn content and dissipation factor dec reased. These results are due to grain size effect and internal stress. Curie temperature was shifted to lower temperature with increasing ratio of total polarizability to volume resulting from substitution of $Ba^{2+}$ ion with $Ca^{2+}$ ion $Ti^{4+}$ ion with $Sn^{4+}$ ion.

  • The present paper develops piezo-thermo-elastic analysis of a thick spherical shell for generalized functionally graded piezoelectric material. The assumed structure is loaded under thermal, electrical and mechanical loads. The mechanical, thermal and electrical properties are graded along the radial direction based on a power function with three different non homogenous indexes. Primarily, the non homogenous heat transfer equation is solved by applying the general boundary conditions, individually. Substitution of stress, strain, electrical displacement and material properties in equilibrium and Maxwell equations present two non homogenous differential equation of order two. The main objective of the present study is to improve the relations between mechanical and electrical loads in hollow spherical shells especially for functionally graded piezoelectric materials. The obtained results can evaluate the effect of every non homogenous parameter on the mechanical and electrical components.

  • The effect of processing parameters such as milling, additives and sintering atmoshpere on the magnetic properties of Mn-Zn ferrite was investigated. The experiment was followed by general ceramic fabrication process and added additives were $CaCO_{3}$, $SiO_{2}$, $V_{2}O_{5}$, $ZrO_{2}$, and $Nb_{2}O_{5}$. The effects of additives could be divided into three categories which were formation ofliquid phase, substitution in lattice and inducing stress. Core loss smong the magnetic properties was dependent mainly on the additives and also correlated with processing parameters. As a result, an optimum condition of preparing process for a high quality Mn-Zn ferrite was suggested by controlling the correlation of each processing parameters.

  • This study examined the flow properties, paste clarity, freeze-thaw stability and gel strength of acetylated sweet potato starch (ASPS) pastes and gels as a function of degree of substitution (DS). ASPS showed high shear-thinning flow behaviors with high Casson yield stress ($\sigma_{oc}$). Consistency index (K), apparent viscosity ($\eta_{a,100}$) and $\sigma_{oc}$ values of ASPS increased with an increase in DS. In the temperature range of $25{\sim}70^{\circ}C$, ASPS followed an Arrhenius temperature relationship. The activation energies (Ea=13.2~14.3 kJ/mol) of the ASPS samples were much lower than that (18.1 kJ/mol) of the native sweet potato starch (SPS). ASPS gels showed better freeze-thaw stability with a significant decrease in syneresis (%) compared to SPS gel. The gel strength values of ASPS were much lower than that of SPS, and significantly decreased with an increase in DS. The clarity of native SPS paste increased after acetylation.

  • The calculated and measured dielectric constant of (1-x)(Al$\sub$1/2/Ta$\sub$1/2/)O$_2$-x(Mg$\sub$1/3/Ta$\sub$2/3/)O$_2$(O$\leq$x$\leq$1.0) solid solutions were investigated by variations of ionic polarizability and crystal structure. (Al$\sub$1/2/Ta$\sub$1/2/)O$_2$ and (Mg$\sub$1/3/Ta$\sub$2/3/)O$_2$were orthorhombic and tetragonal trirutile structure, respectively. When (Al$\sub$1/2/Ta$\sub$1/2/)O$_2$ was substituted by (Mg$\sub$1/3/Ta$\sub$2/3/)O$_2$, the phase transformed to tetragonal structure over 60 mole%. Because the ionic radius of (Mg$\sub$1/3/Ta$\sub$2/3/)O$_2$was slightly bigger than one of (A1$\sub$1/2/Ta$\sub$1/2)O$_2$, the cell parameters increased with an increase of (Mg$\sub$1/3/Ta$\sub$2/3/)O$_2$ substitution. The measured dielectric constant increased with an increase of (Mg$\sub$1/3/Ta$\sub$2/3/)O$_2$ substitution and coincided with dielectric mixing rule and the calculated dielectric constant with the molecular additivity rule. There were some differences between the measured and the calculated dielectric constant. The reason of the lowered dielectric constant comparing with the calculated one was compressed stress due to the electronic structure of tantalum.
