용접(鎔接)이음한 구조용강(構造用鋼)의 피노귀열진전거동(疲勞龜裂進展擧動) (The Propagation Behavior of the Fatigue Crack of the Welded Structural Steel)

  • In recently, according to increase the construction rate of steel bridge, it is necessary to develop the high strength, high toughness steel. Thus, this study show to evaluate the fatigue characteristic of SWS 570 B first used within a country. With the weld-joined compact tension specimens compared with each other, that is, transverse and lengthwise about the crack propagation, high and low in the input heat level, the fatigue test were performed. The log-log curves between the fatigue crack propagation rate da/dN and the transition range of the stress intensity factor ${\Delta}K$ ahead the crack tip were drawed, with these data. By using this curve, we obtained C and m which is material constant from Paris-Erdogan power law. The obtained results from this study indicate that fatigue crack growth rate of SWS 570 B is not influenced by softening effect which occurs in the HAZ(heat-affected zone) when high and low heat input weld is carried out. Softening effects, which affect fatigue properties, are shown that it is not affected to the fatigue growth rates significantly.

  • In this thesis, accelerated life test (ALT) method and procedure for rubber O-ring are applied to assure specified reliability of the products at guaranteeing the life of the products. Rubber O-ring is parts that keep intensity or make machine operation smoothly on attrition portion of machine and is used to prevent that oil is leaked. Usually. Rubber O-ring used NBR that is copolymer of acrylonitrile and butadiene. this are superior oil resistance, heat resistance, durability of abrasion, cold resistance, chemical resistance etc. The accelerated life test model for rubber O-ring are developed using the relationship between stresses and life characteristics of products. Using the accelerated life test method and the acceleration life test equipment which is developed, we performed life test, collected life data and analyzed the results of tests. The proposed accelerated life test method and procedure may be extended and applied to testing similar kinds of products to reduce test times and costs of the tests remarkably.

Semi-active control on long-span reticulated steel structures using MR dampers under multi-dimensional earthquake excitations

  • This paper focuses on the vibration control of long-span reticulated steel structures under multi-dimensional earthquake excitation. The control system and strategy are constructed based on Magneto-Rheological (MR) dampers. The LQR and Hrovat controlling algorithm is adopted to determine optimal MR damping force, while the modified Bingham model (MBM) and inverse neural network (INN) is proposed to solve the real-time controlling current. Three typical long-span reticulated structural systems are detailedly analyzed, including the double-layer cylindrical reticulated shell, single-layer spherical reticulated shell, and cable suspended arch-truss structure. Results show that the proposed control strategy can reduce the displacement and acceleration effectively for three typical structural systems. The displacement control effect under the earthquake excitation with different PGA is similar, while for the cable suspended arch-truss, the acceleration control effect increase distinctly with the earthquake excitation intensity. Moreover, for the cable suspended arch-truss, the strand stress variation can also be effectively reduced by the MR dampers, which is very important for this kind of structure to ensure that the cable would not be destroyed or relaxed.

다공성 방풍벽의 다공도가 펜스후류 속도장에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (Effect of fence porosity on the velocity field of wake flow past porous wind fences)

  • Velocity fields of near turbulent was behind a porous wind fence were measured using the 2-frame PTV method in a circulating water channel. The fences used in this study had different geometric porosity(.epsilon.) of 0, 20, 40 and 65%. The fence was embedded in a thin laminar boundary layer, i.e., .delta./H ~ = 0.1. Reynolds number based on the fence height H and free stream velocity(U$\_$o/) was about 8,400. As a result, a recirculating flow region was formed behind the fence for the .epsilon.=0% and 20% wind fence. For the wind fences having porosity larger than .epsilon.=40%, it was difficult to see separation bubbles behind the fence. The .epsilon.=20% porous fence reveals the maximum velocity reduction, however, the turbulent intensity and Reynolds shear stress are much greater than those of .epsilon.=40% fence. Among the wind fence tested in this study, the porous wind fence of .epsilon.=40% porosity is the most effective for abating wind erosion.

연속 강 플레이트거더교에서 내부지점보강과 외부프리스트레싱의 적용에 관한 해석적 연구 (An Analytical Study on Application of Section Increment at Internal Support with External Prestressing Method to Continuous Steel Plate Girder Bridge)

  • 본 연구에서는 해석의 결과 내부 지점부 보강과 외부프리스트레싱의 도입이 일반 플레이트거더교의 단면보다 단면감소의 효과가 있음을 확인하였으며 특히 외부프리스트레싱의 도입으로 얻은 솟음은 교량의 처짐을 감소시켜 사용성 측면에서 긍정적인 효과를 나타냄을 확인하였다. 해석결과를 바탕으로 하여 거더 개수 별 적용가능 단면을 도시하였으며, 거더 개수가 4개일 경우에 한하여 회귀분석을 시행해 회귀식을 제시함으로써 추후에 이와 같은 단면을 사용할 때 응력예측을 가능할 수 있게 하였다.

고유치 해석을 이용한 보의 크랙 탐색 (Detection of a Crack in Beams by Eigen Value Analysis)

  • In this paper, crack detection method using eigen value analysis is presented. Three methods are used: theoretical analysis, finite element method with the cracked beam elements and finite element method with three dimensional continuum elements. Finite element formulation of the cracked beam element is introduced. Additional term about stress intensity factor based on fracture mechanics theory is added to flexibility matrix of original beam to model the crack. As using calculated stiffness matrix of cracked beam element and mass matrix, natural frequencies are calculated by eigen value analysis. In the case of using continuum elements, the natural frequencies could be calculated by using EDISON CASAD solver. Several cases of crack are simulated to obtain natural frequencies corresponding the crack. The surface of natural frequency is plotted as changing with crack location and depth. Inverse analysis method is used to find crack location and depth from the natural frequencies of experimental data, which are referred by another papers. Predicted results are similar with the true crack location and depth.

긴 균열을 갖는 알루미늄판재의 관통전후 피로거동 (Fatigue Behavior of Before-and-After Penetration of Aluminium Plate with Long Surface Crack)

  • 알루미늄합금(5083-0)의 표면균열시험편의 관통전후의 피로거동을 조사하였다. 관통전의 피로균열형상은 거의 반타원형이며, 측정된 형상비는 Newman-Raju식의 K를 이용하여 계산한 값보다 더 크다. 관통후의 뒷면에서의 피로균열성장거동은 거의 유사하였으며 3영역으로 나누어졌다. 표면균열길이가 긴 경우, 피로균열전파법칙을 사용함으로서 표면균열재의 판두께 관통후의 피로균열 전파특성을 정량적으로 평가될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • Reliability analysis based on fracture mechanics requires knowledge of the on statistical parameters m and C in the fatigue crack growth law $da/dN=C({\Delta}K)^m$. The purpose of the present study is to investigate if it is possible to explain the change of parameter m by the fluctuation of C only. In this study, we apply the Paris-Erdogan law treating the parameter C as random and the parameter m as constant. Fluctuations in crack growth rate are assumed to be dependent only on C. The material resistance to fatigue crack growth(Z=1/C) is treated as a spatially random process, that varies along the crack path. The theoretical crack growth rates at various stress intensity factors are discussed. Additionally, the results of constant ${\Delta}K$ fatigue crack growth tests are reported for the structural steel, SM45C. The experimental data have been analyzed to determine the probability distribution of fatigue crack growth resistanc.

  • The Rann of Kachchh in Gujarat in the Western part of India is seismically the most active area outside Himalayan Belt. Several severe earthquakes of which the 1819 Rann of Kachchh and 2001 Bhuj Earthquakes are the severest recorded have rocked the region. This paper is an attempt to make a comparative study of the 1819,1844 and 2001 earthquakes. The study of 1819 and 1944 earthquakes is based on secondary accounts while 2001 Bhuj earthquake is based on remote Sensing. From a comparative study of the three earthquakes many interesting conclusions can be drawn. These earthquakes have been the result of accumulation of stress caused due to the collision of Indian Plate with the Eurasian Plate, which is continuously moving northwards. The earthquakes have been felt over large part of the Indian Sub-continent. These have resulted in creation of several faults that have activated periodically. Prominent of them are the Allah Bund Fault, Manfara Fault and Budharmora Fault. These are strike slip faults that get periodically activated. In future too these faults are going to be the most vulnerable to any seismic activity with the probability of high intensity earthquakes occurring along them in future too.

Probabilistic Fracture Mechanics Analysis of Boling Water Reactor Vessel for Cool-Down and Low Temperature Over-Pressurization Transients

  • The failure probabilities of the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) for low temperature over-pressurization (LTOP) and cool-down transients are calculated in this study. For the cool-down transient, a pressure-temperature limit curve is generated in accordance with Section XI, Appendix G of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) code, from which safety margin factors are deliberately removed for the probabilistic fracture mechanics analysis. Then, sensitivity analyses are conducted to understand the effects of some input parameters. For the LTOP transient, the failure of the RPV mostly occurs during the period of the abrupt pressure rise. For the cool-down transient, the decrease of the fracture toughness with temperature and time plays a main role in RPV failure at the end of the cool-down process. As expected, the failure probability increases with increasing fluence, Cu and Ni contents, and initial reference temperature-nil ductility transition ($RT_{NDT}$). The effect of warm prestressing on the vessel failure probability for LTOP is not significant because most of the failures happen before the stress intensity factor reaches the peak value while its effect reduces the failure probability by more than one order of magnitude for the cool-down transient.
