Confirmatory Study on Telecommuters TechnoStress Model Under COVID-19 (COVID-19 상황에서 나타나는 재택근무자 테크노스트레스 모델에 관한 연구)

  • Technostress management is increasingly getting important as ICT advances and infiltrates every job and task. Especially with the advent of COVID-19, workers had to switch to teleworking utilizing ICT extensively. In this study, we developed a research model explaining antecedents and their impacts on technostress in telecommuting context, especially under the COVID-19 situation. The result revealed that techno-complexity, techno-invasion, and techno-overload are the dominant factors that affect the negative psychological responses in the COVID-19 situation. Among them, we found that techno-overload maintain the most significant influence. It is due to the lack of instant feedback on workload allocations in telework and the lack of adjustment period with the sudden shift to telecommuting. In the case of techno-complexity, employees seem to experience difficulty acquiring new technical skills. Finally, the techno-invasion came out significant, signifying the infiltration of working space by home-related activities. The emotion-focused coping strategy had a moderating effect. In contrast, the problem-focused coping strategy had no significant effect, indicating that an appropriate emotional coping strategy is more important for workers undergoing extreme changes in the work environment. Subsequently, practical and theoretical implications, limitations, and future research directions are discussed.

The Relationship between High School Teachers' Grit and Job Stress Coping Strategies (고등학교 교사의 그릿과 직무스트레스 대응행동 간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between high school teachers' grit and stress coping strategies and to understand differences in stress coping strategies by cluster types of grit. 226 in-service teachers participated in the survey who took the professional development program in the national educational training institute. Results are as follows. First, perseverance of effort in grit was the positively independent variable toward task-oriented and emotion-oriented strategies. The avoidance-oriented strategy was negatively influenced by consistency of interest in grit. Also, the clusters of high grit and high perseverance of effort in grit showed higher means in task-oriented and emotion-oriented strategies than the cluster of low grit. Finally, researchers discussed the importance of strengthening high school teachers' grit for them to cope with job stress effectively.

COPING STYLE, FAMILY SUPPORT, PARENTING BEHAVIOR IN ADOLESCENTS WITH HIGHLY PERCEIVED STRESS (청소년의 높은 스트레스 지각과 대처양식, 가족 내 지지, 부모양육행동 간의 관계)

  • Objectives : This study was intended to compare coping style, family support, and parenting behavior between adolescent groups with different levels of perceived stress. Methods : A total of 795 high school students participated in this study. First, they were tested on the Perceived Stress Scale and then were separated into two groups depending on the level of perceived stress. Both groups completed the Scale for the Coping Style, the Family Environment Scale (relationship subscale) and Parenting Behavior Inventory. Results : The high stress group had significantly higher scores on all their coping scores than the low stress group. Also, the high stress group had significantly higher family conflict scores, lower family cohesiveness scores and lower expression scores than the low stress group. The high stress group experienced negative parenting behavior from both parents more often than the low stress group. In the adolescents with low family cohesiveness and expression, the use of active behavioral coping was decreased, if the higher stressful events occurred. The use of avoidant coping by these adolescents increased when there were higher levels of stress in their environment. Conclusion : Low family support directly reduced the usage of active behavioral coping and increased the use of avoidant coping strategy through the mediation of high stress condition.

An Effect of Self-Care Education and Level of Resourcefulness on Active Coping in Patients with Chemotherapy (항암치료환자에게 시행한 자기간호교육과 자원동원성 수준이 적극적 대처행위에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify how internal and external coping resources influenced active coping in the process of stress-coping. The model was established theoretically by comparing and integrating the following theories : Stress-Coping, Self-Care, and Resourcefulness. The subjects consisted of sixty eight patients undergoing chemotherapy(experimental group 34, control group 34) at two general hospitals from January to July, 1995. The results were as follows : After self-care education, the active coping score of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group. The active coping score of the high resourcefulness group was significantly higher than that of the low resourcefulness group. The interaction effect between self-care education and resourcfulness was not significant statistically. Specifically as to such scores of seeking social support, problem-oriented strategy and self care behavior, there were significantly higher in the experimental group and high resourcefulness group than in each of the other groups. Considering them both, self-care education and resourcefulness are effective nursing strategies to promote active coping including self-care. Consequently, the synthesis and testing of theories of stress-coping, self-care, and resourcefulness in this study are mostly proven to enhance the explanation and prediction of the change of active coping including self-care. Therefore the result of this study will contribute in the development of practice theory of nursing. A further study is necessary to reevaluate the interaction effect between self-care education and resourcefulness and to identify the difference between resourcefulness and self-efficacy.

An Exploatory Study about Stress Coping Strategy of University Student: Utilizing Photovoice Methodology (포토보이스 조사방법을 활용한 대학생의 스트레스 대처전략 탐색적 연구)

  • The current study uses photovoice, a participatory and quantitative method of research, to understand the stress in the youth through the experiences of university students. The study was conducted in the order of education, data collection, data analysis for six session college students in J city. The results was largely categorized into three themes as follows. Firstly, as sub-themes of meaning of stress, there were 'Spider web that clogs the head', 'Seemingly endless passage', 'Anxiety that keeps hands fidgeting', Secondly, factors of stress, there were 'Life does not depend on the class rank', Financial hardships,' Frustrated with getting a job', 'Difficulty in time management', Thirdly, how to cope with stress, there were 'A friend you can freely talk to and laugh with', 'Grab some food and release some stress', 'Get away from daily life', Positive thinking relaxes body and spirit'. Based 0n the analyzed results, we can understand the causes and coping strategies of college students in depth, suggested the practical suggestions and limitation of college society about stress and the educational implication of utilizing photovoice.

A study on the Mediating Effect of Stress Coping Strategies in the Relationship between Emotional Empathy and Smartphone Addiction of University Students (대학생의 정서적 공감, 스트레스 대처방식, 스마트폰 중독의 구조모형 연구: 스트레스 대처방식의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study aimed to investigate the mediating effects of stress coping strategies in the relationship between emotional empathy and smartphone addiction. To get the results, a survey was conducted, targeting university students. Key outcomes of the analysis were as follows. First, it was verified that emotional empathy and smartphone addiction, stress coping strategies and smartphone addiction had statistically meaningful direct relationships. Second, it was analyzed that stress coping strategies had partial mediating effects in the relationship between emotional empathy and smartphone addiction. Third, difference analysis according to gender, female students showed higher smartphone addiction and lower active stress coping strategy in comparison with male students. Based in these results, comprehensive interventions for preventing smartphone addiction were proposed.

Family Stresses and Coping Strategies among Commuting Couples (주말부부의 가족스트레스 및 대처전략에 관한 연구)

  • This study focused on family stresses and coping strategies among commuting couples. The participants of this study consisted of a national samples of 134 couples(268 individuals), who had been commuting for at least six months. The major findings obtained from the study are summarized in the following: First, the degree of family stresses among commuting couples was 2.98, when the maximal stress value was set to 5.0. No difference in the level of stress was detected from the roles of the wife and those of the husband. The most stressful aspect for the commuting couples came from the role of parents who care for their children. The second stressful aspect was their responsibility for their own parents, and finally the stress from the housework and maintenance of their marital lives followed next. There was no difference between the wives and husbands on the stressors. Secondly, the level of the coping strategies developed by the commuting couples themselves against their stresses was 3.37, when the maximal stress coping value was set to 5.0. Again, there was no difference in this level between wives and husbands. Among the strategies, they used ‘cognitive restructuring’the most frequently; sharing their responsibilities with other members in family life came next; and developing their own techniques to manage their stresses followed. Thirdly, the ages of the couple, the age of the first child, type of jobs, duration of the marriage and commute, and frequency of meeting affected the level of family stress among commuting couples. Finally, commuting couples developed quite different strategies to cope with their family stresses, and religion and family type affected significantly the type of coping strategies.

Structural Relationship between Psychosocial Factors Affecting Motivation for Change in Alcoholics

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between psychosocial factors, such as self-esteem, stress coping, and social support, and motivation for change in alcohol dependent inpatients. This study included 179 inpatients in the 7clinics for alcoholic in Chonbuk. For the analysis of the study questions, this study utilized the structural equation modeling. The results show that self-esteem was related to motivation for change with mediating role of problem-focused stress coping strategy in alcohol dependent inpatients. The study also reveal that self-esteem and social support was directly associated with the motivation for change. Based on the findings, the importance of programs to promote self-esteem and the involvement of family and acquaintances in the treatment process has been suggested.

A Study on the Cognitive Coping Strategies by Job Stress Level of Call Center Workers (콜센터 근로자의 직무 스트레스 수준에 따른 인지적 대처전략)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the job stress level of call center workers and figure out its relation with cognitive emotion regulation strategies as a cognitive coping strategy. Methods: Data collection was conducted on 985 call center workers, working for K companies in Korea. ANOVA, t-test, Scheffe's test and multiple regression have been conducted for the data analysis using SAS 9.0 software. Results: The total job stress score of subjects ranges $Q_{25{\sim}49}$ (the lower 50%) whereas the score of job demand and job control ranges $Q_{50{\sim}74}$ (the upper 50%), and its sectional job stress level is high. Since job stress is the major factor affecting cognitive emotion regulation strategies, it is shown that when the job stress score gets higher, the score of positive cognitive emotion regulation strategies gets decreased but the score of negative cognitive emotion regulation strategies, increased. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop and apply an effective stress easing method for call center workers which reduces negative cognitive emotion regulation strategies and increases positive ones.

Convergence Study on Stress, Stress of Clinical Practice, Coping, and Psychological well-being in Nursing Students. (간호대학생의 스트레스, 임상실습 스트레스, 대처, 심리적 안녕감에 관한 융합 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the stress, clinical practice, coping with the stress, and the degree of psychological well-being of nursing student. A descriptive research study was conducted to confirm successful university life of nursing college students and how to continue their nursing life. The data were collected from questionnaires filled out by 242 nursing students who experienced clinical practice. Data collection was performed from October to November, 2015. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 program using ANOVA, t-test, pearson correlation coeffient and multiple regression analysis. As a result of the research, it was found that the psychological well-being increased as the problem faced, the problem was solved directly, and the less stress was applied. Results of the regression analysis showed problem solving coping(${\beta}=.446$), avoidance coping (${\beta}=-.301$), and stress(${\beta}=-.281$), it were explained 51.0%. Therefore, nursing college students should be able to cultivate psychological well-being through a strategy of managing stress to actively ask for solutions to problems through self or social support system.
