Purpose: The prevalence of problematic internet usage among college students is a cause for concern. There is a lack of study examining influences of cognitive protecting or buffering factors on internet addiction among college students. The purpose of this study was to examine influences of depression, ego-resilience, and active stress coping on internet addiction tendency (IAT) among college students. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive design was used. Data were collected between October and December 2013. A convenience sample of 244 students completed self-report questionnaires consisting of Ego-resiliency Scale, Ways of Coping Checklist, Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression, and Self-report Scale for Internet Use. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed for data analysis. Results: We found that higher levels of depression were associated with higher levels of IAT. However, an inverse association was found between active stress coping and IAT. Students who mainly used the internet for chatting showed lower levels of IAT than those who used the internet for games or blogs. These factors explained 15.1% of the variance in IAT of college students. Conclusion: The study results suggest that stress coping strategies and depression are important factors for evaluation when developing intervention programs targeting college students with problematic internet use.

Purpose: To develop end-of-life care training programs for nurses who provide in a tertiary hospital, we examined the mediating effects of empathy and resilience on the relationship between their stress and job performance. Methods: This study was conducted with 218 participants at a hospital in B city in South Korea from August 15 through August 30, 2017. Data collected from the participants were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression using the IBM SPSS/WIN 21.0 software. Results: Terminal care stress was found to be negatively correlated with empathy competence (r=-0.345, P<0.001), resilience (r=-0.223, P=0.001) and terminal care performance (r=-0.260, P<0.001), whereas empathy (r=0.467, P<0.001) and resilience (r=0.358, P<0.001) were positively correlated with terminal care performance. Empathy had a complete mediating effect (${\beta}=0.409$, P<0.001) on the relationship between terminal care stress and performance, and resilience a partial mediating effect (${\beta}=0.294$, P<0.001). Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, development of training programs with a focus on empathy and resilience are highly recommended to improve job performance of nurses who provide terminal care in a tertiary hospital.
Objective : This study investigated the relationship between the resilience and posttraumatic stress symptoms, as well as comorbid symptoms in firefighters. Methods : We collected 764 firefighters, who worked at six fire department stations in Gangwon-do. We investigated the impact of event scale-revised (IES-R), the life events checklists (LEC), Connor-Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC), Beck depression inventory (BDI), state trait anxiety inventory (STAI) and alcohol use disorder identification test (AUDIT). Full PTSD groups, partial PTSD groups and non-PTSD groups, which were classified by IES-R scores, were compared in the LEC, CD-RISC, BDI, STAI and AUDIT, ; multiple linear regression analyses were done for independent predictors of variables. Results : Of the 764 firefighters, there were significant differences in LEC (p<0.001), CD-RISC (p<0.001), BDI (p<0.001), and AUDIT (p=0.001) among the full PTSD groups, partial PTSD groups and non-PTSD groups. However, STAI did not show significant difference among three groups. In multiple regression analysis, CD-RISC (${\beta}=-0.168$, p<0.001), LEC (${\beta}=0.211$, p<0.001) and AUDIT (${\beta}=0.115$, p=0.001) were significant predictors for IES-R. Conclusion : The results of the present study suggested that resilience might be a protective factor in PTSD and comorbid symptoms of PTSD.
The purpose of this study was to create and validate Scale of Resilience to Burnout and Scale of Burnout Risk for social workers in medical settings. For the purpose, instrument development model, a kind of mixed methods research was used. In the first phase, six dimensions of resilience(: professional competency, accomplishment and worthwhileness, firm belief and value about their profession, good teamwork, support by their agency, and individual resources) and six dimensions of risk to burnout(: dissatisfaction with organizational condition, interpersonal stress among team members, organizational conflict, work related stress, deficiency of professionalism, and individual stress) were suggested thorough the preceding papers with qualitative approaches. The second phase involved analysis of a survey of 185 participants that appeared to validate the dimensions of the measures. The construct validity and reliability of each measure were tested. And it was founded that there were its own factors in each concept, although resilience to burnout related negatively to burnout risk. The results of this study suggest mixed methods research is useful to develop measures reflecting voices in the social work field.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess exposure to traumatic events, knowledge and attitudes concerning post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the level of resilience among nurses and paramedics working in emergency departments. Methods: Data were collected from May 22 to June 12, 2022, using a self-administered survey questionnaire. The participants comprised 135 nurses and 80 paramedics working in emergency departments. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, a t-test, and an analysis of variance with Scheffé's test. Results: Compared with emergency room nurses, paramedics were more positive about the government's spending on job opportunities for people with PTSD. There were no significant differences in attitude regarding government strategies and people with PTSD between nurses and paramedics. Paramedics had higher scores on the effective treatment for PTSD, while emergency room nurses showed higher scores on effective psychotherapy. General knowledge of PTSD differed according to sex (t=-2.33, p=.021) and education level (F=3.21, p=.042). Resilience scores differed significantly according to sex (t=2.02, p=.045), education level (F=4.10, p=.018), self-reported economic state (F=10.34, p<.001), and self-reported health (F=11.57, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings support that emergency department nurses and paramedics are in need of self-care programs to support their mental health and indicate that intervention programs should be developed to enhance resilience in emergency department professionals.

This study is a descriptive research study for analyzing the relevance among stress, anxiety, and ego-resilience in nursing college students before clinical practice. The survey was conducted targeting the second-year students in a K college who were anticipating their first clinical practice. The survey result showed that female students showed higher stress levels than male students (t=-5.51, p<.001) before clinical practice. Female students also showed higher anxiety levels than male students (t=-3.30, p=.001) before clinical practice. The students showed higher anxiety levels before clinical practice as they felt more strongly that they were in bad health (F=3.27, p=.041), as their personality was less outgoing (t=-3.32, p=.001), and as they had a lower satisfaction level in their major (F=7.25, p=.001). The students showed higher ego-resilience levels before clinical practice as they felt more strongly that they were in good health (F=3.74, p=.026) and as their personality was more outgoing (F=3.19, p=.002). The stress and anxiety levels before clinical practice also had a positive correlation (r=.211, p=.010) and the ego-resilience and anxiety before clinical practice had a negative correlation (r=-.313, p<.001). Based on the finding, it is necessary to develop the competence improvement program that can reduce the anxiety of nursing college students before clinical practice in order to improve their ego-resilience.
This study empirical analysed how senior's technical stress and self-efficacy affected entrepreneurial intentions and whether resilience functioned as a mediating effects between them. 207 data were collected from the field survey questionnaires administered to a convenience sample of senior men and women aged 40 and over who had entrepreneurial intentions. For hypothesis testing, the IBM SPSS Statistics 24.0 was used. Frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis were conducted. Empirical studies showed as follows. First, technical stress affected senior's entrepreneurial intentions. Second, self-efficacy turned out to affect senior's entrepreneurial intentions. Third, resilience came out to have a partial-mediating effects between technical stress and the senior's entrepreneurial intentions as well as between self-efficacy and the senior's entrepreneurial intentions. These research outcomes supported the preceding studies that self-efficacy played key roles in maximizing senior's entrepreneurial intentions and demonstrated the importance of self-efficacy as an independent variable for seniors to promote entrepreneurial activities with an intention of starting a new business. Furthermore, the technical stress newly introduced as an independent variable was found to be the next most important factor after the self-efficacy. The study also confirmed that the resilience has been doing an partial-mediating effects. However, it appeared that the technical stress affected the will of start-up, but it appeared to be a positive relationship. For generalization of this finding, further studies are required.
Catholic nuns are under a lot of role stress while living as a monk, which leads to psychological burnout, causing negative effects. This study confirmed which sub-factors of the role stress of Catholic nuns has a greater effect on psychological burnout, and analyzed whether resilience has a moderating effect on psychological burnout. As a result of a mail survey of 234 catholic nuns, first, role stress could be confirmed according to the period of catholic nuns' life in the capital and the roles of internal and external apostles. In particular, when the life of the capital was less than 20 years, they felt different from the role ambiguity. Second, it was found that the role stress of catholic nuns had an effect on psychological burnout, and role ambiguity, role conflict, and role all had an effect on psychological burnout. In particular, role ambiguity was found to have the greatest effect, causing greater psychological burnout of role ambiguity than role. Third, in the relationship between role stress and psychological burnout, resilience had a moderating effect This study suggests that reducing the role ambiguity of nuns is the most important, and that it is necessary to improve resilience as a way to reduce psychological burnout. Above all, it is meaningful in that it targets nuns who are difficult to access easily.
