Prolotherapy for the Lower Extremities (하지에서의 프롤로 치료)

  • Prolotherapy, the technology for strengthening lax ligaments, has found increased acceptance in recent years. Prolotherapy involves the injection of the irritant solutions into the weakened or stretched ligaments which are a source of chronic pain. This induces an inflammatory response which mimics the normal repair sequence. Various musculoskeletal disorders of lower extremities such as degenerative arthrtitis, ligament and tendon injuries can be treated with prolotherapy. Prolotherapy is a very good, powerful nonsurgical conservative treatment in various musculoskeletal disorders. Ultrasound exam is very useful to find and confirm the exact location of disorders and check the progress in prolotherapy practices.

An Exploratory Study on the Human Resource Management Strategy of Non-Standard Workers in the Korean Companies (한국기업에서 비정규직의 인적자원관리전략에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the human resource management strategies of non-standard workers that can contribute to accomplishing both corporate social responsibility and business purpose in efficient and effective ways. For the purpose, this researcher investigated circumstances under which Korean companies are using non-standard workers and systems related to those workers. In Korea, the Non-Standard Workers Protection Act was enacted and revised, and became effective on July 1, 2007. The main provisions of the act are as follows. First, the systems of discriminatory treatment prohibition was legally stipulated, Second, restrictions on overwork for fixed-term and part-time employees and the written statement of working conditions were compelled. Third, only 26 kinds of jobs were permitted for worker dispatch in accordance with positive list system. To achieve their business purpose, companies often use standard workers, but sometimes non-standard workers unavoidably in accordance with their business strategy. This study propose main human resource management strategies of non-standard workers such as determining the scope of jobs, strengthening legal and systematic human resource management, improving human relations, extending the grievance procedure and converting non-standard workers into standard ones.

Improving the Residual Stress Characteristics of the Metal Surface by Nd:YAG Laser Shock Peening (Nd:YAG 레이저 충격 피닝에 의한 금속표면의 잔류응력 특성 개선)

  • Laser shock peening is useful to improve fatigue characteristic of multiple number of metals and alloys. This process induces a compressive residual stress on the metal surface, and when tensile load is applied, growth of crack is delayed and which changes the characteristic of the metal surface. It is an innovative surface treatment technique for strengthening metals. Specimens of SM45C are used in this study. The effect of an inertial tamping layer on the residual stress field using laser shock peening setup and Nd:YAG laser power is evaluated. Residual stress distribution measured by X-ray diffraction. As a result of this study it can be presented that following condition of Nd:YAG laser power and inertial tamping layer parameters, compressive residual stress is generated on the surface of the SM45C. Results to experimental data indicate that laser shock peening has great potential as a means of improving the mechanical performance of the metal surface.

The Anatomy and Biomechanics of knee joint for orthopedic local taping (슬관절의 정형의학적 국소 테이핑을 위한 해부학과 생체역학에 관한 문헌적 고찰)

  • The knee joint is composed of 3 skeletons that is the femoral bone, the tibial bone, and the patella bone. The tibiofemoral pint and patellofemoral pint act with the meniscus, so these function that is maintain the stabilities by the surrounding soft tissue is complex. The protection mechanism(muscle tension) of the surrounding muscles for the joint disease(Arthritis) limits consistently the motion of the pint to decrease the internal pressure of the joint, and these muscle tension acts with abnormal function for the surrounding tissue and the joint, sometimes the contracture is developed, if the joint with disease is not recovery or treated within early time. So we worked out efficient orthopedic local taping for the patient who is complained of the knee pint pain using the literature investigation about the anatomical structure and the biomechanics of the knee pint for the muscle and the pint problem esp, the rotation of the tibia, the dislocation of the patella, and the motion of the meniscus that is developed due to tension of surrounding muscles of the knee pint. And application of the pint mobilization, the stretching, and the muscle strengthening exercise for the pint will become successful treatment for the joint disease.

The Effect of Neck Exercises on Neck and Shoulder Posture and Pain in High School Students (목 운동이 고교생의 목 어깨 자세와 통증에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of neck exercises on neck-shoulder posture and pain of high school students with neck disorders. Methods: Twenty seven subjects were randomly assigned to one of 3 groups a craniocervical flexion training group (CCFT), a neck strengthening exercise group (ST), and a basic stretching exercise group (CG). CCFT and ST exercised five times a week for eight weeks under the researcher's guidance. The control group performed basic stretching exercises. Diagnostic radiologic equipment was used for the measurement of neck-shoulder posture. Neck disability index, and numeric rating scales were used. Results: The CCFT showed a significant pre-post treatment difference on measures of neck flexion angle and forward shoulder angle changes compared to the ST and CG groups (p<0.05). The CCFT group also showed a significantly greater improvement on the neck disability index and numeric rating scales changes than the ST and CG groups (p<0.01). Conclusion: Because CCFT decreases neck flexion angle, forward shoulder angle, neck disability index, and pain in the forward head posture, it is useful for treating patients with neck disorders.

A Study on Strategical Approach of Medical Tourism for Busan (부산지역 의료관광산업의 전략적 접근 방안)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose ways of promoting medical tourism in Busan. For the purpose, this researcher made a questionnaire survey of Japanese tourists who used in Busan International Ferry Terminal between January and April 30, 2008. Findings of the study can be summarized as follows. 86.3% of all respondents had never experienced any medical service in Korea. 57.3% said that the most important thing is the level of medical technology. Most of respondents preferred massage treatment using spa and sea water, followed by Oriental medical services. To make medical conditions(price competitiveness, high-level medical technology, high-quality medical facilities) of Busan properly informed to the outside, it is required to make the city itself more internationally recognized through public relations and strengthening individual medical services provided in the city. It is also required to build up a non-stop service system that helps foreign tourists not only easily use medical institutions, but also better cope with a variety of problems that they might face during stay in the city. To be more trustable to foreign patients, medical services of Busan should be certified by JCI. Furthermore, it is very much needed to develop products which connect medicine with tourism, for example, such programs that combine medical services, tourism, recreation and leisure.

  • The compressed fracture of spine caused by osteoporosis is one of the most frequent diseases in bone fracture. Recently the vertebroplasty has drawn much attention as a medical treatment for the compressed fracture of spine, which strengthens the vertebral body and corrects deformity, and relieves pain in patients by injecting bone cement. But because there were no research about strengthening of mechanical properties of verbral body in bone cement injection, in this study, based on the properties of PMMA, we had measured the Young's modulus for different apparent densities of intact trabecular bone and PMMA injected one from a porcine and a cadaver. Young's modulus to apparent density had a form of a power series in intact trabecular bone and had a linear relation in PMMA injected bone.

  • Active and therapeutic sport recovery is becoming a popular and important component in approving performance for pro and recreational athletes alike. It is also helping in the realm of injury prevention. In the search of finding modalities that are widely effective, natural, and safe, acupuncture is a viable and cost-effective treatment for helping athletes achieve this goal. More direct related research is needed, but testimonials from pro athletes and the body of research that currently exists provides powerful evidence on acupunctures ability to help with enhancing recovery. Specializing in acupuncture and exercise science, Chris integrates acupuncture into musculoskeletal rehabilitation therapy or fitness training for pain modulation, speedy recovery, and enhanced performance. Clients can choose to focus on one-on-one corrective exercise therapy, manual and massage therapy, or acupuncture. However, for best results, Chris recommends all three. Other modalities that he uses in therapy are acu-taping, herbal therapy, nutrition supplementation, cupping, guasha, and stretching techniques. Vertical and torsional soil reactions for radially inhomogeneous soil layer

  • The response of an embedded body to dynamic loads is greatly influenced by the reactions of the soil to the motion of the body. The properties of the soil surrounding embedded bodies (e.g., piles) may be different than those of the far-field for a variety of reasons. It may be weakened or strengthened according to the method of installation of piles, or altered due to applying one of the soil strengthening technique (e.g., electrokinetic treatment of soil, El Naggar et al. 1998). In all these cases, the shear strength of the soils and its shear modulus vary gradually in the radial direction, resulting in a radially inhomogeneous soil layer. This paper describes an analysis to compute vertical and torsional dynamic soil reactions of a radially inhomogeneous soil layer with a circular hole. These soil reactions could then be used to model the soil resistance in the analysis of the pile vibration under dynamic loads. The soil layer is considered to have a piecewise, radial variation for the complex shear modulus. The model is developed for soil layers improved using the electrokinetic technique but can be used for other situations where the soil properties vary gradually in the radial direction (strengthened or weakened). The soil reactions (impedance functions) are evaluated over a wide range of parameters and compared with those obtained from other solutions. A parametric study was performed to examine the effect of different soil improvement parameters on vertical and torsional impedance functions of the soil. The effect of the increase in the shear modulus and the width of the improved zone is investigated.

Compaction and strength behavior of lime-coir fiber treated Black Cotton soil

  • This paper describes the compaction and strength behavior of black cotton soil (BC soil) reinforced with coir fibers. Coir used in this study is processed fiber from the husk of coconuts. BC soil reinforced with coir fiber shows only marginal increase in the strength of soil, inhibiting its use for ground improvement. In order to further increase the strength of the soil-coir fiber combination, optimum percentage of 4% of lime is added. The effect of aspect ratio, percentage fiber on the behavior of the composite soil specimen with curing is isolated and studied. It is found that strength properties of optimum combination of BC soil-lime specimens reinforced with coir fibers is appreciably better than untreated BC soil or BC soil alone with coir fiber. Lime treatment in BC soil improves strength but it imparts brittleness in soil specimen. BC soil treated with 4% lime and reinforced with coir fiber shows ductility behavior before and after failure. An optimum fiber content of 1% (by weight) with aspect ratio of 20 for fiber was recommended for strengthening BC soil.
