The strength and characteristics of the soldering interface of the power semiconductor chip in a power module has been firstly surveyed by the peel strength measurement method. A power module is combined with several power chips which generally has 30∼400$\textrm{mm}^2$ chip area to allow several tens or bigger amps in current rating, so that the traditional methods for interface characterization like shear test could not be applied to high power module. In this study power diode modules were fabricated by using lead-tin solder with 10${\times}$10$\textrm{mm}^2$ or 7${\times}$7$\textrm{mm}^2$ soldering interface. The peel strengths of soldered interfaces were measured and then the microscopic investigation on the fractured surfaces were followed. The peel test indicated that the crack propagated either through the bulk of the soft lead-tin solder which has 55-60 kgf/cm peel strength or along the interface between the solder and the plated nickel layer which has much lower 22 kgf/cm strength. This study showed that the peel test would be a useful method to quantify the solderability as well as to recognize which is the worst interface or the softest material in a power module with a large soldering area.
The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of camphoroquinone on the properties of five experimental composites. The contents of camphoroquinone were varied as 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, 0.5%, and 0.6%, with silanized filler 75% and tertiary amine 0.2%. Five kinds of experimental composites were prepared, and diametral tensile strength, shear bond strength, depth of cure and yellowish discoloration were tested as a measurement. Specimen numbers of 10 were applied to all test items and experimental groups. Specimens for testing the diametral tensile strengths with internal diameter of 6mm in diameter and 3mm in height were filled with 5 experimental composites which were crushed with 1mm/min cross-head speed on Instron universal testing machine (Model No. 4467). Shear bond strength was measured on specimens attached to bovine teeth enamel etched with 37% phosphoric acid. Depth of cure was measured by the measurement of height of specimens which were removed the un-polymerized portion with acetone. Yellowness measurements were made by chromometer(Minolta Co. Japan) using L$^*$a$^*$b$^*$ values. ANOVA and Multiple range tests were used analyzed data with confidence level at 95%. The mean value of the shear bond strengths ranged from 31.03MPa to 39.49MPa. Following results were obtained ; 1. Diametral tensile strength was highest in experimental group 3, then was not affected by the contents of camphoroquinone ($r^2$=0.0422). 2. Composite resins containing 0.4% camphoroquinone showed the highest shear bond strength, but there was no statistical significance (p=0.3718). 3. Camphoroquinone reduces the depth of cure in the composite resins (p=0.0004, $r^2$=0.9483). 4. Camphoroquinone made the composites yellowish ($r^2$=0.9815). These results mean that increased content of camphoroquinone reduces the depth of cure, and that camphoroquinone make composites yellowish.

Theoretical and experimental study of the unconfined penetration (UP) test was conducted to suggest a new test method (referred to as IUP, Improved Unconfined Penetration) for determination of the tensile strength of compacted sand-bentonite mixtures. The tensile strength of compacted mixtures can be calculated from limit analysis based on the theory of perfect plasticity. The measurement errors in new test method were reduced by improving the UP device. Preliminary experiment results indicate that the tensile strength increases with increasing the disk size, loading rate and pH level. In addition, the disk diameter with 25.4 mm and the loading rate with 0.5%/min~1%/min are most suitable condition for the IUP test. The reliability of IPU test was verified by through the fact that good agreement between the IUP and conventional split tensile test results is observed.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the contact angle made by 3 kinds of self etching primers (Clearfil SE Bond, AdheSE, and Tyrian) on dentin and to measure the microtensile bond strength of resin composite to dentin using these self-etching primers. Contact angle between each of 3 self etching primers and polished dentin surface was measured (n=30) by contact angle analyzer and the result was analyzed by One-way ANOVA. For the measurement of microtensile bond strength, polished dentin surface was treated with each of 3 self etching primers and dentin adhesives. Z-250 composite resin was built-up with a height of 5 mm on the adhesive-treated surface and light cured for 40s with a halogen light curing unit. Thereafter, each tooth was sectioned into slabs perpendicular to the bonded interface and trimmed (n=45). The microtensile bond strength was measured with universal testing machine and the result was analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test. AdheSE group showed the highest contact angle followed by Clearfil SE group and Tyrian group (p<0.05). AdheSE group and Clearfil SE group showed significantly higher microtensile bond strength than Tyrian group (P<0.05).
This study was performed as part of the development of the payment adjustment regulations for ensuring high performance of concrete pavements. The objectives of this study were to develop the reasonable quality measurement approaches for the implementation of the payment adjustment regulations and to propose the methods to determine the quality dependent pay factors. First, by using the statistics the slab thickness measurement data was analyzed and the methods to determine the allowable measurement errors, the proper measurement spacing, and the selection of the measurement location were proposed. In addition, to suggest the reasonable methods to determine the pay factors, by using the data of the slab thickness and concrete flexural strength, the pay factors based on the PWL(Percent Within Limits) method used in the USA were compared with those obtained considering the normal probability distribution and t distribution. Finally, the most appropriate method to determine the pay factors was proposed.
The main objectives of this study are to investigate the anisotropic characteristics of rocks and to evaluate the relationships between physical properties. A series of experiments were performed in three mutually perpendicular directions for three rock types, which are granite, granitic gneiss and limestone. The relationships of measured physical properties were evaluated. The results of ultrasonic wave velocity measurement show that granite of three rock types gives the largest directional difference, and that the wave velocity in a plane parallel to a transversely isotropic one is dominantly faster than that in a subvertical or vertical plane. It implies that ultrasonic wave velocity for rock could be used as a useful tool for estimating the degree of anisotropy. The ratio of uniaxial compressive strength to Brazilian tensile strength ranges approximately from 13 to 16 for granite. from 8 to 9 for granite gneiss, and from 9 to 18 for limestone. The directional differences for granite and granitic gneiss are very small, and on the other hand, is relatively large for limestone. It is suggested that strength of rock makes quite difference depending on the rock types and loading directions, especially for the anisotropic rocks such as transversely isotropic or orthotropic rocks. The ratio of uniaxial compressive strength to point load strength index ranges from 18 to 20 for granite, from 17 to 19 for granitic gneiss, and from 21 to 24 for limestone. These results show that point load strength index makes also a difference depending on rock types and directions. Therefore. it should be noted that the ratio of uniaxial compressive strength to point load strength index could be applied to all rock types. Uniaxial compressive strength shows relatively good relationship with point load strength index, Schmidt hammer rebound value, and tensile strength. In particulat, point load strength index is shown to be the best comparative relationship. It is indicated that point load test is the most useful tool to estimate an uniaxial compressive strength indirectly.

In this paper, a standard field generation method using a micro-TEM ceil is described and its measurement uncertainty is evaluated. The standard field generation system consists of an auto-leveling signal source, a micro-TEM cell operating up to 1.2 GHz, and a power measuring Instrument using a thermistor mount. Measurement results of a field strength key comparison (CCEM.RF-K20) for the field strength of 20 V/m at frequencies between 10 MHz and 1 GHz are presented for validating the standard field generation method.

Acoustic target strength (TS) measurement and theoretical acoustic scattering models were applied to estimate the TS for assessing the fish biomass. TS measurement was made of ex situ sailfin sandfish Arctoscopus japonicus at 70 and 120 kHz, and then compared to backscatter model prediction. The live sandfish was tethered in seawater using monofilament lines. Measurements were made versus incidence angle, $-50^{\circ}$ to $50^{\circ}$ relative to dorsal aspect directions. Distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) model was used to calculated TS pattern. The TS values of sandfish (body length: 16.2 cm) at 70 and 120 kHz were -66.94 dB and -64.45 dB, respectively, and were about 20 dB lower than TS of other fishes in Korea waters. These TS levels were distributed within the range of the theoretical TS. Ex situ measurement and theoretical TS may be applied to improve acoustical detection and biomass estimation of the sandfish, and is necessary to measure with various lengths.
