Cost effective optimal mix proportioning of high strength self compacting concrete using response surface methodology

  • Optimization of the concrete mixture design is a process of search for a mixture for which the sum of the cost of the ingredients is the lowest, yet satisfying the required performance of concrete. In this study, a statistical model was carried out to model a cost effective optimal mix proportioning of high strength self-compacting concrete (HSSCC) using the Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The effect of five key mixture parameters such as water-binder ratio, cement content, fine aggregate percentage, fly ash content and superplasticizer content on the properties and performance of HSSCC like compressive strength, passing ability, segregation resistance and manufacturing cost were investigated. To demonstrate the responses of model in quadratic manner Central Composite Design (CCD) was chosen. The statistical model showed the adjusted correlation coefficient R2adj values were 92.55%, 93.49%, 92.33%, and 100% for each performance which establish the adequacy of the model. The optimum combination was determined to be $439.4kg/m^3$ cement content, 35.5% W/B ratio, 50.0% fine aggregate, $49.85kg/m^3$ fly ash, and $7.76kg/m^3$ superplasticizer within the interest region using desirability function. Finally, it is concluded that multiobjective optimization method based on desirability function of the proposed response model offers an efficient approach regarding the HSSCC mixture optimization.

  • This work was tamed out to apply a laser welding technique in joining between a Zn coated low carbon steel plate(SECC) and a free cutting carbon steel shaft(SUM24L) with or without W coating. Experiments were carried out and analysed by applying the FD(factorial design)method to obtain the optimum Laser welding condition. Optical microscopy, SEM, TEM and XRD analyses were performed in order to observe the microstructures in the fusion zone and the HAZ. Mechanical properties of the welded specimens were examined by microhardness test, tensile test and twist test. There was no flawed Zn in the fusion zone by EDS analysis. This means that during the welding process, Zn gas could be eliminated by appropriate shielding gas flow rate and butt welding gap. Ni coating itself did not influence on the tensile strength and hardness. However, twist bending strength and the weld depth of the Ni-coated free cutting carbon steel were lower as compared with those of the uncoated free cutting carbon steel. It was attributed to a lower absorbance of laser beam to the shin Ni surface. According to the results of the factorial design tests, the twist bending strength of welded specimens was primarily affected by pulse width, laser power, frequency and speed.

  • The strength of cement mortar is one of the most important factors in design and construction. Strength can vary widely depending on factors such as water cement ratio, aggregate and materials and curing. In the study, it was found that the standardized method of making the cement mrtar was different from the standard method of preparing the cement mortar by the different process of the cement mortar. I wanted to know the difference. Experiments were carried out to investigate the differences in strength, physical properies and performance depending on the points when the sample were made long in vertical form.

  • Reliability of fatigue strength on Aircraft Composites(GFRP) Structures was assessed in this paper. Fatigue strength of GFRP was used through the existing fatigue test data with Monte Carlo method. The Sa-Nf curve of composites fatigue strength was assumed as normal distribution and reliability was analyzed using SSIT model. Fatigue stress was designed IAW ASTM F3114-15 with special safety factor of Ssf=1.2~2.0. Reliability was calculated by analytic method and FORM. Sensitivity for the effect of mean and standard deviation of fatigue strength as well as fatigue stability was evaluated. This result can be usefully applied to reliability and fatigue design for composite structures of light weight aircraft.

사물인터넷 구현을 위한 고강도 콘크리트 박막벽체의 극한 편심하중 강도에 관한 연구 (A Study of Axial Eccentricity Strength of High Strength Concrete Thin Walls for Internet of Things)

  • Recently, a high strength concrete(HSC) in excess of 80 MPa is popular to use in the domestic construction field. But there is no design standard of high strength concrete. It is reason why a study about structural behaviors of thin walls is required. In this paper, the accurate Finite Element Method as a virtual test is suggested considering material properties, which are concrete and steel, and the experimental fractural model suggested by Kupfer. It is conducted the comparison evaluation of the ultimate failure loads, lateral-displacements and crack propagation patterns between the results of experimental approach, which were carried on Saheb's test for normal strength concrete and Lee's test for high strength concrete. Therefore it is suggested to use the accurate virtual simulation test method and Ubiquitous Sensor Network(USN) by Finite Element Method for Internet of Things(IoT).

Hoek-Brown 파괴기준에서 유도된 연속체암반의 전단강도를 적용한 깎기 암반사면 경사 결정 연구 (A Study on Decision of Cut Rock Slope Angle Applied Shear Strength of Continuum Rock Mass Induced from Hoek-Brown Failure Criterion)

  • 급경사($65^{\circ}{\sim}85^{\circ}$)로 자연환경에서 장기간 안정한 상태로 유지되고 있는 깎기 또는 자연 상태의 암반사면이 다수 존재한다. 설계 실무측면에서 이와 유사한 암반상태 및 지질구조로 이루어진 지반을 양호한 연속체 암반사면으로 정의하고 있으며, 이 암반사면의 경사 결정 과정 중에 설계 및 시공 초기 단계의 안정해석 절차 단계에서 연속체 암반의 지반특성 평가방법을 수립하는 것이 중요하게 될 것이다. 이 연구에서는 급경사로 설계 가능한 양호한 연속체 암반사면의 안정해석 과정에서 지반정수 적용에 필요한 강도정수를 Hoek-Brown 파괴기준을 활용하여 실무적으로 산정하는 방안을 제안하고 이와 함께 급경사 암반사면의 안정해석을 통해 설계 적용성을 평가하였다. 기존 강도정수 산정방법은 작은 구속응력 변화에도 H-B파괴 포락선에 상응하는 등가 M-C강도정수가 민감하게 변화하므로 설계에서 실무적으로 활용하기가 부적합하였다. 이 문제점을 보완하기 위해 등각분할법으로 등가 M-C강도정수를 산정하는 방안을 제시하였다. 등각분할법의 설계 적용성을 확인하기 위해 기존 실시설계 현장에서 조성된 깎기 사면의 경사 변화에 따른 안전율 및 변위 결과를 검토하였다. 안전율은 1:0.5 사면에서 Fs=16~59이고, 1:0.3 사면에서 Fs=12~52이며, 대부분 10~12%의 감소를 보인다. 변위는 1:0.5 사면에서 0.126~0.975mm이고, 1:0.3 사면에서 0.152~1.158mm이며, 10~15%의 증가를 나타낸다. 이는 정규 비례의 미미한 변화이며, 안정성 측면에서는 양호한 상태이다. 설계 실무측면에서, H-B파괴기준에서 유도된 등각분할법으로 산정한 강도정수를 연구대상 암반사면과 유사한 양호한 암반에 대해 범용적인 강도정수로 적용하여도 안정적이고 경제적인 결과를 도출할 수 있다는 것을 확인하였다. 암반사면에 영향을 미치는 단층이 분포하지 않는 지반에서는 한계평형해석(LEM)과 유한요소해석(FEM)으로 안정해석하는 절차도 실무적으로 무난한 것으로 검토되었다. 연구대상 사면을 양호한 상태의 암반조건으로 선정하여 연구를 수행하였으나 좀 더 다양한 암반조건(터널 포함)에 보편적으로 적용할 수 있는지에 대한 검증 작업은 추후 연구과제가 될 것이다.

기울기-처짐법에 의한 유조선의 입체 강도 해석 (On the Calculation of 3-Dimensional Strength of Oil Tanker by Slope -Deflection Method)

  • In the recent years, the finite element method has been a leading method in calculating the strength of ship hull structural members. But such a calculation has many difficulties in constructing data, reducing CPU-time and connecting it with optimal design. This paper describes more efficient method for three dimensional strength calculation of the hull structure of oil tanker by using the slope-deflection method, and the computer program based on this method is developed. The results of the calculation by using this method are compared with those by using the SAP4 program based on the finite element method. Some advantages are obtained from the application of the slop-deflection method described in this paper in the calculation of the hull structure oil tanker.

유한요소법을 이용한 슬래브 시스템의 설계자동화 (Design Automation of Slab System by the Finite Element Method)

  • 유한요소법을 이용하여 적용범위가 제한되고 부정확한 기존의 설계방법을 대치할 수 있는 새로운 철근 콘크리트 슬래브 설계법을 제시하였다. 제시된 방법을 이용하면 어떠한 기하형태의 슬래브 시스템에 대해서도 정확하고 효율적인 설계결과를 얻게된다. 슬래브 설계에 사용되는 등매개 판요소는 적분에 소요되는 계산기간을 절감할 수 있도록 매우 효율적으로 유도되었다. 슬래브 철근의 설계는 강도설계법을 이용하였고, 시방서 최소 철근량과도 비교하였다. 해석결과 모멘트와 설계철근량은 컴퓨터 그래픽을 이용하여 일목요연한 등고선으로 도시하여 설계편의를 제고시켰다. 등매개 판요소의 정확한 전단력을 이용하여 전단에 대한 적절한 검토도 할 수 있게 하였다. 철근과 콘크리트의 균열을 고려한 비탄성 처짐계수법을 개발하여 사용하중하의 처짐을 적합하게 계산할 수 있도록 하므로써 슬래브의 사용성도 검토할 수 있도록 하였다. 개구부가 있는 원형 슬래브 예를 들어 비정형 슬래브 설계에도 제시하는 방법이 손쉽게 적용될 수 있음을 보여주었다.

  • Routinely, strength method for the determination of the nominal moment of reinforced concrete beam is assumed to also be suitable for strengthening beams with carbon fiber sheets since typically strengthening beams compromise 98% by volume of reinforced concrete. Flexural capacity of strengthening beam is absolutely dependent upon the type of reinforcement materials, amount of reinforcement, anchoring system, adhesion capacity between reinforcement material and concrete. Therefore, it might be incorrect to use strength method for analysis and design of strengthening beam without considering the differences in the load-deflection curves, mechanism of failure, state of stress distribution, failure strain of the reinforcement. An flexural analysis based on force equilibrium and strain comparability has been developed for strengthening beam. Systematic experimental investigations are compared with analytical results. Then, the adaptation of strength method for strengthening beam have also been discussed.

  • Steel plate or fiber composite plate are mainly used in externally bonding method. Shear strengthening by externally bonding method is to confirm shear safety and to avoid brittle failure. In case of strengthening by externally bonding method, a failure of structure occurs frequently due to delamination between strengthening plate and concrete. Therefore, it is important to consider the delamination in the strengthening design. The objective of this study is to propose a modified shear strength evaluation by considering the delamination. The delamination criteria of strengthening plate is established by the ultimate strain and shear stress. And shear strength of RC beams is proposed in terms of the delamination criteria. The proposed shear strength is compared with test results and verified through the comparison.
