Analysis of Electric Field Distribution of PVDF Electrospinning According to Electrospinning Conditions (전기방사 조건에 따른 PVDF 방사의 전기장 분포 해석)

  • In this study, electric field analysis was conducted for each process as a preliminary step in the design of the electrospinning device to apply the electrospinning PVDF nanofibers to increase the filtering effect of insect screens. In the electrospinning analysis using a single nozzle, it was confirmed that there was a decrease in the electrostatic field strength as the tip's size decreased, an increase in the voltage, and no effect depending on the TCD distance. In addition, it was confirmed that the closer the distance between tips, the more electric field interference occurs, and this was found to have a more significant effect on the tip located in the center with tips on both sides. Therefore, based on these analytical results, it is believed that an increase in production speed can be expected by establishing an efficient process line by confirming the radiating area of the collector and designing the spacing between multi-nozzles through actual experiments.

Performance of Horizontal Drainage in the Slope Using Numerical Analysis (수치해석을 이용한 비탈면 수평배수공의 성능 분석)

  • Due to the high proportion of mountainous terrain in Korean territory and the concentration of heavy rainfall during the summer season, concerns arise about the potential decrease in slope stability caused by rainfall. Installing slope drainage facilities mitigates the rise in groundwater levels due to infiltration, thus enhancing slope stability. Horizontal drains, classified as auxiliary facilities among drainage systems, lack established installation standards and related research. Slopes with installed horizontal drains have been confirmed to exhibit higher safety factors compared to those without. Furthermore, the safety factor of mimicking horizontal drains by increasing the permeability coefficient of the surrounding ground was compared with that of the conventional simulation method using the Drain function. As a result of the comparison, it was confirmed that the installation length showed better drainage performance than the installation angle in the drainage performance of the horizontal drainage hole, and it was judged that the installation length was a more important factor.

Analyzing the Effect of Microbial Consortia Fermentation on the Quality of HnB by Untargeted Metabolomics

  • Fermentation has been identified as an effective strategy to alter the chemical makeup of tobacco, thereby enhancing its quality. The deliberate introduction of microorganisms can hasten the fermentation process. In this research, microbial consortia harvested from the tobacco surface were utilized to enhance the tobacco quality. This enhancement also elevated several sensory attributes of HnB cigarettes, such as aroma richness, moisture, strength, and reduced irritation, achieving a sensory quality rating of 84.5. This marks a notable improvement compared to the 82 rating of the original, unfermented cigarettes. Untargeted metabolomics analysis revealed a decrease in total polyphenols and unsaturated fatty acids, while the levels of polyacids, alcohols, ketones, furans, and other compounds increased in the fermented tobacco. Additionally, KEGG pathway enrichment analysis indicated that the enhancement in tobacco quality through microbial consortia fermentation is linked to various biological pathways, with pathways related to fatty acid and amino acid degradation playing pivotal roles. The findings of this study will serve as a reference for the commercial production of HnB cigarettes, and the elucidated mechanism offers a theoretical basis for exploring microbial fermentation as a means to improve tobacco quality.

Effect of Processing Additives on Vulcanization and Properties of EPDM Rubber (EPDM 고무의 첨가제에 따른 가류 및 물성에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • Effects of three different types of dispersions and flow improving additives composed with fatty acid esters, fatty acid metal salts and amide compound on the vulcanization and the mechanical properties properties of rubber compounds of EPDM and carbon black as fillers. were investigated using Mooney viscometer, moving die rheometer, hardness tester, and universal test machine. The aging characteristics of vulcanized EPDM compounds were also investigated. The Mooney viscosity measured at $125^{\circ}C$ showed a tendency to decrease in the order of amide type> metal salt type > ester type additive. Scorch time showed little or no difference with the addition of ester or metal salt type additives, but the amide type additive shortened a scorch time more than one minute. Rheological measurement data obtained at $160^{\circ}C$ showed that the vulcanization time was faster for metal salt type and amide type additive systems. Delta torque values of EPDM compound increased with metal salt type and amide type additives, but slightly decreased with ester type additive. The tensile strength of the EPDM compound was greatly improved when an ester type additive was added, but the amide type or metal salt type additive had no significant effect. The elongation was significantly improved for metal salt type additive, while the rest were not significantly affected. The tear strength of the EPDM compounds increased with the addition of all kinds of additives, and it increased remarkably in the case of metal salt type additive. Hardness of the EPDM compounds was nearly same value regardless of additive types. The thermal aging of the EPDM blend at $100^{\circ}C$ for 24 h showed little change in the case of metal salt type or amide type additive, but the elongation tends to decrease by 10-20% for all EPDM compounds containing additives.

Anti-osteoporotic Activity of Gojineumja Aqueous Extracts on the Ovariectomized Mice (난소적출 마우스에서 고진음자(固眞飮子) 물 추출물의 골다공증 개선 효과)

  • Objectives: The objective of this in vivo study is to observe the anti-osteoporotic activities of Gojineumja aqueous extracts (GJEJ) on the ovariectomized (OVX) mice as compared to those of risedronate sodium (RES). Methods: Thirty five days after bilateral OVX, GJEJ was orally administered, for 35 days once a day and then the changes on the body weight and gain during experimental periods, femur weights, bone mineral density (BMD), bone strength (failure load), mineral contents - calcium (Ca) and inorganic phosphorus (IP), histological profiles and histomorphometrical analyses at sacrifice were conducted with serum biochemistry - osteocalcin contents and bone specific alkaline phosphatase (BALP) activities. And the results of GJEJ were compared with RES orally administered OVX mice. Results: As a result of OVX, noticeable increase of body weight and gains and serum osteocalcin levels, decrease of serum BALP activities, femur weights, femur Ca and IP contents, BMD and strength were observed as compared to those of sham control mice, respectively. Also, the decrease of all histomorphometrical indices indicating the bone mass and structure, and the increase of indices about resorption were also detected in the femur of OVX control. However, these estrogen-deficient osteoporotic signs were significantly and dose-dependently inhibited by 35 days of continuous oral treatment of GJEJ, at dose levels of 500, 250 and 125 mg/kg, respectively. Especially, GJEJ 500 mg/kg showed favorable inhibitory activities against estrogen-deficient osteoporosis symptoms induced by OVX as comparable to those of RES 2.5 mg/kg. Conclusions: The results in this study suggest that oral administrations of GJEJ have clear dose-dependent favorable anti-osteoporotic activities in OVX mice.

Quality Characteristics of $Kalopanax$ $pictus$ and $Aralica$ $elata$ Shoot according to Their Salt Conditions (염장조건에 따른 엄나무와 두릅 순의 품질특성)

  • The quality characteristics of $kalopanax$ $pictus$ and Aralica elata shoots during their preservation were investigated according to the salt conditions and storage temperatures to improve the use of the shoots. The results were as follows: the pH of $kalopanax$ $pictus$ shoots duing their storage did not changes with 10% and 12% brine at $4^{\circ}C$ and with 12% brine at $10^{\circ}C$. The pH of $Aralica$ $elata$ shoots is at $4^{\circ}C$ tended to be similar to the $kalopanax$ $pictus$ shoot and decreased at the storage temperature of $10^{\circ}C$. The salinity of the $kalopanax$ $pictus$ and $Aralica$ $elata$ shoots tended to increase during their storage and did not change significantly as their storage temperature changed. The L values of $kalopanax$ $pictus$ and $Aralica$ $elata$ shoots tended to decrease gradually during their storage, and the salt concentrations appeared high. The b value of the $kalopanax$ $pictus$ shoot tended to increase and that of the $Aralica$ $elata$ shoots, to decrease gradually. The a value tended to increase gradually but did not differ with variations in the storage temperatures and salt concentrations. The strength and the hardness of the $kalopanax$ $pictus$ and $Aralica$ $elata$ shoots tended to decreased gradually during their storage and highest in 10% brine at $4^{\circ}C$, and those of $Aralica$ $elata$ shoots were highest in 8-10% brine at $4^{\circ}C$. The Chlorophyll contents of the $kalopanax$ $pictus$ and $Aralica$ $elata$ shoots tended to decrease during their salt storage and did not change significantly as the temperatures and salt concentrations changed. Therefore, it can be concluded that the quality of $kalopanax$ $pictus$ and $Aralica$ $elata$ shoots can be maintained when the are stored in 10% brine at $4^{\circ}C$.

Efficiency of ceramic bracket debonding with the Er:YAG laser (세라믹 브라켓의 제거 시 Er:YAG 레이저의 효능)

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to find out whether Er:YAG laser can aid in debonding ceramic brackets, and to see what kind of method will be the most appropriate for debonding. Methods: One hundred and ninety teeth, monocrystalline brackets ($MISO^{TM}$, HT, Ansan-Si, Korea), polycrystalline brackets ($Transcend^{TM}$ series 6000, 3M Untek, Monrovia, CA, USA) and the KEY Laser3 (KavoDental, Biberach, Germany) were used. Experimental groups were classified according to the type of ceramic brackets, and the amount of laser energy (0, 140, 300, 450, 600 mJ). After applying laser on the bracket at two points at 1 pulse each, the shear bond strength was measured. The effect of heat caused by laser was measured at the enamel beneath the bracket and pulp chamber. After measuring the shear bond strength, adhesive residue was evaluated and enamel surface was investigated using SEM. Results: All ceramic bracket groups showed a significant decrease in shear bond strength as the laser energy increased. The greatest average temperature change was $3.78^{\circ}C$ on the enamel beneath the bracket and $0.9^{\circ}C$ on the pulp chamber. Through SEM, crater shape holes caused by the laser was seen on the enamel and adhesive surfaces. Conclusions: If laser is applied on ceramic brackets for debonding, 300 - 450 mJ of laser energy will be safe and efficient for monocrystalline brackets ($MISO^{TM}$), and about 450 mJ for polycrystalline brackets ($Transcend^{TM}$ series 6000).

Suitable Conditions of Producing the LVL from Pitch Pine and its Paint Film Durability (리기다소나무 단판적층재(單板積層材)의 제조조건(製造條件)에 따른 물리적성질(物理的性質) 및 도장성능(塗裝性能))

  • This study was carried out to investigate the physical and mechanical properties. durability of adhesive bond and paint film for the basic data which were required to determine the suitability as a raw material for furniture the laminated veneer lumber (LVL) with pitch pine (Pinus rigida Mill). The results obtained were as follows; 1) The proper pressing time for making the LVL was over 45 second per milimeter of LVL thickness. 2) The bending strength of the LVL was lower than that of the solid wood but the compressive strength of the LVL was similar to that of the solid wood. The strength increased with the decrease of veneer thickness. 3) The impact bending absorbed energy of the LVL was 0 to 0.3 kg.m/$cm^2$ in the direction of parallel to the grain. The energy of the LVL was lower than that of the solid wood (0.68 kg.m/$cm^2$). 4) In warm water soaking and cold-dry tests, delamination of adhered layers surface crack, swelling, and color change were not found when the hot pressing time was over 45 second per milimeter of LVL thickness. As a result of soak under vacuum test shrinkage in the direction of parallel to the grain was about -1.0 percent and. was about 3.0 percent in the direction of the perpendicular to the grain. 6) The film cacks on the LVL's surface after the wet and cold-dry test were not found at all. 7) In the use of the LVL for interior decoration it was considered that the surface of the LVL be overlaid crossly with fancy veneers of birch and paulownia, etc. This cross overlayirg methods have resulted in few cracks on the fancy veneer.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the optimal conditions for meat paste production with sardine. To improve the gel forming ability of meat paste, washing time and condition with alkaline solution, setting time and temperature, and heating temperature before pasteurization were controlled, and the influences of the freshness of raw sardine and the mixing ratios of ordinary and dark muscles on the duality of the meat paste product were discussed. The frozen storage showed a predominant effect on keeping freshness of raw sardine at different storage conditions and gel forming ability was maintained for 1 day at ice storage, for 3 days at $-3^{\circ}C$ and for 4 days at frozen condition, but there was no effect on keeping freshness of raw sardine in the storage at $25^{\circ}C$. Gel strength of meat paste product tended to decrease with washing time of raw meat, and in case of washing 3 times the meat appeared excellent in gel strength, but in case of seven and nine times the meat showed lower water holding capacity and decreased organoleptic test score in the quality of meat paste prtoduct. Raw meat washed with alkaline solution showed a desirable effect on gel forming ability compared with that washed with tap water, and in the case of washed with $0.5\%$ sodium bicarbonate solution exhibited the most favorable effect on gel forming. The gel strength of the meat paste product decreased with the increase of mixing ratios of dark muscle in the raw meat. Setting time and temperature for the gel forming ability of meat paste were good at $5^{\circ}C$ for 20 hours and at $20^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. In the heating temperature of meat paste, heating treatment at $90^{\circ}C$ was desirable for gel forming.

Tensile Behavior of Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Cement Composite According to the Hooked Steel Fiber and Polyvinyl Alcohol Fiber Blending Ratio and Strain Rate (후크형 강섬유와 폴리비닐알코올 섬유의 혼합 비율과 변형속도에 따른 하이브리드 섬유보강 시멘트복합체의 인장거동)

  • In this study, the fiber blending ratio and strain rate effect on the tensile behavior of hybrid fiber reinforced cement composite was evaluated. Hooked steel fiber and polyvinyl alcohol fiber were used for reinforcing fiber. The fiber blending ratio of HSF+PVA were 1.5+0.5, 1.0+1.0 and 0.5+1.5vol.%. As a results, the tensile strength, strain capacity and fracture toughness of the hooked steel fiber reinforced cement composites were improved by the increase of the bond strength of the fiber and the matrix according to increase of strain rate. However, the tensile stress sharply decreased after the peak stress because of the decrease in the number of straightened pull-out fibers by micro cracks in the matrix around hooked steel fiber. On the other hand, PVA fiber showed cut-off fracture at strain rate $10^{-6}/s$ with multiple cracks. However, at the strain rate $10^1/s$, the multiple cracks and strain capacity were decreased because of the pull-out fracture of PVA fiber. The HSF1.5PVA0.5 shown the highest tensile strength because the PVA fiber suppressed the micro cracks in the matrix around the hooked steel fiber and improved the pull-out resistance of hooked steel fiber. Thus, DIF of strain capacity and fracture toughness of HSF1.5PVA were greatly improved. In addition, the synergistic response of fracture toughness was positive because the tensile stress was slowly decreased after the peak stress by improvement of the pull-out resistance of hooked steel fiber at strain rate $10^1/s$.
