Balanced Performance Measurement System for Strategic Learning (전략적 학습의 촉진을 위한.균형 성과측정시스템의 개발)

  • This paper suggests a dynamic balanced scorecard (DBSC) model employing the concept of system dynamics (SD), which could overcome the limitations inherent in the conventional balanced scorecard (BSC) and facilitate strategic learning process in organizations. The BSC has been a successful framework for measuring an organization's performance in various Perspectives through translating an organization's vision and strategy into an interrelated set of key performance indicators and specific actions. The BSC, while having significant strengths over traditional performance measurement methods, however, has its own limitations, due to its static nature, such as overlooking two-way causation between performance Indicators and neglecting the impact of delayed feedback flowing from the adoption of new strategies or policy changes. To overcome these limitations, we employs SD, a methodology for understanding complex systems where dynamic feedback among the interrelated system components significantly impact on the system outcomes. The SD simulation model in the form of DBSC we suggest in this paper would serve as a useful strategic learning tool for facilitating an organization's communication process through various scenario analyses as well as predicting the dynamic behavior pattern of their key performance measures over a future time frame. For the demonstration purpose, we apply the DBSC model to Korea Coal Corporation (KoCoal ) BSC case.

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm whether the IT activity and organizational strategy makes a significant influence on the system performance. IT activity is defined as a system development, system operation and system management. Cost leadership and Differentiation were used as a strategic type. Field research was employed to empirically investigate the relationship among the variables. The finding of the study can be summarized as follows. IT activity and strategic type are not enough to explain the system performance.

  • This study researched the relationship of effect of management awareness of corporate members, system buildup and strategic operation on corporate performance through industry-university collaboration networking. The result of the study are as follows. First, as the importance of industry-university collaboration, system buildup networking was proved to provide the greatest influence on the corporate performance. Second, it presents to form the bond of sympathy with members on corporate management which is built through industry-university collabora-tion. Third is the importance of strategic operation. Strategic operation was prove to have high influence on corporate performance. Fourth is to prove the relationship between system buildup and strategic operation of industry-university collaboration networ- king. The system buildup provides an important impact on corporate strategic operation. Fifth is the system buildup through management awareness by through industry-university collaboration. Lastly, the relationship between management awareness and corporate performance was found to be significant. Management awareness of members can be presented as an important variable on corporate performance. This study is to present the fact that it is important to secure competitiveness of small and medium-sized businesses, to develop a way for creative improvement and to secure a way for strengthening the competitiveness, and to strengthen the corporate competitiveness through reinforcement of industry- university collaboration networking.

A Study on the Impact of Strategic Quality Management and Business Performances in Korea (한국기업의 전략적 품질경영과 경영성과)

  • To satisfy the needs of customers, firms must supply customers with products of high quality. This requires firms establish a quality management system which pursues customer satisfaction in a business strategy. Quality management must be connected with the strategic chain and the firm can obtain excellent performances only when top management leadership which places people over profit is exercised. The purpose of this study is to analyse whether elements of strategic quality management has any effect on quality and business performances. A questionnaire was used for the survey. In this study, it is showed that elements of strategic quality management(strategy, leadership, customer satisfaction, quality improvement activity, technological innovation, shop floor management, employee participation) are positively correlated with the quality and business performances. This tells firms have to carry out the strategic quality management effectively based on the strategic chain and emphasizing leadership.

  • Israel craves peace and freedom. Israel has won many wars and conflicts militarily. They have developed strategic thinking based on the data, unique culture, and peacetime preparation system accumulated so far, and the strategic culture based on it contributes to fostering elite strong forces by presenting directions to security strategies.The strategic culture formed by Israeli beliefs, behavioral patterns, and identity influenced strategic thinking and the usefulness of security strategies. The purpose of this study is to redefine the concept of strategic culture by referring to the methodological discussion of strategic culture theory and to examine how useful strategic culture has provided strategic thinking and security strategies. In addition, based on the impact of Israel's strategic culture on security strategy, I would like to present implications for Korea's security strategy.

  • The paper presents a case study with application of a performance measurement questionnaire in analyzing a semi-conductor-related manufacturing company. The case may contribute to the development of strategic performance measurement system. The questionnaire contains considerable non-financial measurement indices as well as financial ones, which may strengthen the strategic aspect of measurement system. The strategy, actions, and measures have to be balanced through communication process in an organization. The result shows the usefulness of the congruence and consensus analysis of performance factors in effectively managing strategic action programs and identifying investment task areas to be targeted.

  • This study aims to suggest a strategic alliance between libraries and publishers in Korea. When it considers the linear distribution channel of current publications and the entity and a butterfly effect of knowledge communication crisis, the publishers as production agency and the library as consuming subject must search a strategic cooperative plans. In order to achieve this goal, the study analysed the four issues(fixed book prices, library infrastructure, book and library supply policy of government, legal deposit system) which is important.

  • This study closely examines quality management's realities which manufacturing firms have and effective result controls access formula by comparison and analysis on the product of introduction quality control realities and quality management of manufacturing firms in Chollabukdo. In order to accomplish the purpose of this study, this research was progressed as order of literature review and survey. After literature review this study drew up questionnaire on the basis of foregoing literature and executed survey on manufacturing business taking TQM(Total Quality Management) in Chollado's area. The result of analysis are as follows. First, according to the analysis manufacturing of industry's realities, investment in TQM techniques seems to contribute to the performance of manufacturing firms, but most of manufacturing firms quality control do not have strategic orientations. Conseqently, general and strategic quality management system suitable for the realities of manufacturing industry are required. Second, It seems that manufacturing industry didn't recognize strategic importance for competitive advantage. Namely, It was found that firms with less TQM executed non-strategic quality management, compared with firms more TQM.
