  • Korea's ROTC system was introduced from the United States in 1961 to recruit competent primary grade officers and secure reserve forces in peacetime. However, entering the 2000s, it was faced with a serious crisis, which was a decrease of the application rate due to the change in the acquisition environment including the decrease in school-age population and military service resources due to the low fertility, and the shortened period of military service. Therefore, this study tried to suggest a ROTC system improvement plan focusing on the organizational structure and operation system by analyzing the change in the acquisition environment and the cause of decrease in the application rate. As a research method, a comparative method between the cases of the ROTC systems in the US and Korea was applied through domestic and foreign literature studies. In terms of theory, Strategic Human Resource Management, which is applied to corporate management to achieve organizational performance and secure comparative competitive advantage in a knowledge-based society, was used as a theoretical criterion.

  • With rapid advancement of IT and Internet technologies, online market is surely becoming a stage of the competition among various forms of platform providers. This study show the significance of the negotiation process in the platform pricing strategy and observe several external/internal factors that might affect the negotiation power of the identities surrounding the platform. Major theories used in this study are the resource-based-view and network theory. Resources resulting in a negotiation power of the content providers and platform providers turn out to be widely scattered in their business areas - from product characteristics to the size of the content provider. End-user (or buyer) group which cannot make a strategic move for the organized development and use of resources is taking advantage of network externalities to support its negotiation power.

  • Twelve new species of two genera Smenospongia and Cacospongia (Demospongia: Dictyoceratida: Thorectidae) are described from Gageodo Island and Ulleungdo Island, Korea. Of these, ten new species of the Smenospongia are distinguished from the other nine reported species of the genus by the skeletal structure and sponge colour. Primary fibres of the genus Smenospongia are mostly dense, dark colour, and invisible inside of fibres, but they are mostly cored detritus and echinated with spicules. Especially, the end of primary fibres at the surface shows densely cored with spicules. All these new species changed the colour. Two new species of the genus Cacospongia are compared with nine other reported species. In skeletal structure, primary fibres of the genus Cacospongia are light colour, visible inside and more heavily cored with spicules and sands. The skeleton of this genus has large meshes. The colour of the genus Cacospongia does not change.

  • The purpose of Demand Response is to reduce the cost of excessive resources and equipment by spontaneous load reductions at peak loads. Having enough power consumers participating in these schemes is key to achieving the goal. Demand Response Aggregator (DRA) is responsible for recruiting demand resources and managing them to participate in reducing the load. DRAs change the price elasticity of demand functions by providing incentives to demand response, thereby affecting price formation in the electricity market. In this paper, this process is modeled to analyze the relationship between DRA's strategic bidding and market outcomes and load reductions. It analyzes the results by applying to competition between DRAs, competition between DR and Gencos, and coexistence of DR load and non-DR load. It is noteworthy that we have found a phenomenon called the Balloon Effect.

  • This paper discusses global expansion and global strategies of shipping firms. Acknowledging the lack of research on global expansion by freight transport companies, this paper employs the resource-focused model, and explores "why shipping companies emerge" and "why the strategic behaviour of shipping companies is different in the global market". Despite there being a plethora of theoretical and empirical studies on the international operations of business organisations, it is acknowledged that researchers have largely neglected the issues regarding the international expansion within the freight transport industry. Identifying the general lack of contemporary studies concerning the international behaviour of shipping firms, this study addresses the important gap in our knowledge in the theoretical manner. The theoretical analysis suggests that the shipping company's internal resources can be a real reason for the international market participation.
