  • Inchon Port is the second largest import-export port of Korea, and has the point at issue such as the excessive logistics cost because of the limits of handling capacity and the chronic demurrage. The purpose of this paper is to develop the simulation program as a long-term strategic support tool, considering the dual dock system and the TOC(Terminal Operation Company) system executed since March, 1997 in Inchon Port. The basic input parameters such as arrival intervals, cargo tons, service rates are analyzed and the probability density functions for these parameters are estimated. From the simulation model, it is possible to estimate the demurrage status through analyzing various scenarios and to establish the long-term port strategic plan.

  • Strategic decisions related to the design of a physical distribution system can be classified into three basic components : facility location, transportation, inventory decisions. In this research the interdependence of those decisions are expressed in a mathematical model such that the total relevant cost of the system is minimized. We suggested a heuristic technique for solving the model. In broad terms, our solution technique combines a heuristic method for determining which candidate DCs to open and an exact method for minimizing costs given a set of open DCs. And we also developed a decision supporting package for the design of a physical distribution system.

  • In order to have competitive advantage for the business firms, companies need to raise competitiveness through the effective distribution and practical use of management resources along with strategic management of integration of existing management systems such as quality and business environment. Upon resulting of questionnaires to expert group, it is definite to have an integration of quality and environment system for the better efficiency of firms, and also recommended to have either a mixture of two systems or build up new integration system through uniform of two systems. The effects of the integrated system can be summarized as an increase of company image, efficiency of system operation, simplification of system management, synergy effects on the integration.

  • Due to change in management environment and paradigms, companies need to the open management system that provides information for real-time costing, customer satisfaction, decision making support, responsibility management etc. We are not ready to implement this system yet. But we must introduce a new management system, i.e., ABMS(Activity- Based Management System) on the basis of the ARC(Activity-Based Costing) by development of production/information technique. This paper realizes foundational concepts of Activity and ABC, reestablishes the concept of ABC correctly and expands ABC for ABMS. Thus this paper is useful for ABMS modeling, leading competitors, total productivity improvement and strategic management for the best quality and service.

  • Currently, many organizations introduce ERP system as a key enabler of business strategic accomplishment and it can improve productivity and efficiency of organizations by integration and managing enterprise resources. Already many organizations have introduce ERP system and the number of introduced ERP system is increasing steadily. Unfortunately, even though organizations have invested much money, previous studies showed the ERP systems had not always turned in good result. It is easy to find studies that suggest successful implementing strategies for ERP systems. Even if the importance of ERP change management has been emphasized, studies for change management are seldom. This study reviewed the previous literature on strategic use of change management in enterprise. In order to establish a successful implementation of ERP, this paper suggests proper solutions to conduct change management according to implementation phase with activity and output, especially analyzing successful organizations in implementing ERP system through consistent change management.

  • The concept of strategic group is defined as an aggregate of corporations utilizing similar strategies with similar resources. It becomes a kinds of contact point in the middle of corporation and industry between the industrial organization theory and the strategic management theory. This study tried to apply the strategic group model, which has been a main theory in the management studies, to program providing industry in Korea. This study shed lights upon research problems such as number of strategic groups, differences of strategic variables among the groups, finally differential performances according to strategic groups. 40 commercial broadcasting companies were analyzed to find answers. 9 strategic groups were drawn as a result of cluster analysis. Major variables which contribute to making groups were operating efficiency(4.05), pricing(3.83), size(number of system operator, 3.56), reliance on license revenue(2.58), horizontal integration(number of sister networks, 2.16) in order. An analysis of variance between performance variables has shown statistical significance regarding total net revenue per subscriber, however, insignificances statistically in regards to ratio of operating profit to net sales, cash Abstracts 687 flow ratio. Some studies in the past insisted that history variable played an important role to classifying strategic groups. However, this study found that the history didn't exert significant influence on either the group classification itself or performance.

  • This paper deals with the strategic quality concepts in terms of competition reinforcements. Quality is recognized as critical to modern competition Quality systems have been evolving rapidly in recent years. The companies need to blow how to improve quality if Hey are to survive. In order to this, this paper focused on new approach of 'quality concepts,' 'quality costs & decomposition,' 'quality management & quality cultures,' etc.

  • This study presents a research model that demonstrates the dominant design technology strategy for developing and securing dominant design technology based on open innovation. For this purpose, this study developed a strategic model for the development and acquisition of design technology, production technology, and production system of propeller which satisfies the requirements of ship propulsion system required by ship owners and shipbuilders. By studying large propellers for ships, it is possible to embody a strategic model that can be used as a technology development strategy of dominant design that is effective in technology field of other industries. In this study, HSP (High Skewed Propeller) strategy of Hyundai Heavy Industries, which occupies the largest global market share (47.5%, 2007) for more than 30 years until now, is analyzed as a successful case to verify this strategic model. The development and acquisition strategy model of dominant design technology presented in this study consists of four stages : dominant design project strategy, dominant design engineering technology strategy, dominant design production technology strategy, and dominant design production system strategy. The strategic model summarizes the key activities at each stage. In addition, the steps and core activities of this strategic model were confirmed through the case study. As a technology development strategy of HSP products, Hyundai Heavy Industries utilized open innovation technology to cooperate with outside, that is, collaborative research and development with KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) research team, and succeeded in achieving technology development of dominant design of HSP products by linking it with HSP technology development and acquisition strategy.

  • As the importance of the biohealth industry has recently increased, innovative government support is required. However due to the limitation in the support framework, a complementary support system for commercialization is needed. This study examines the concept of TRL which the existing support being following, and investigates domestic support system and overseas support cases. It points out that the current TRL-based government support policy has limitations for the commercialization of the biohealth industry, which requires a lot of time and investment. The new concept of the support system reflecting the characteristics of the bio-industry and solving the problems of late R&D stage was proposed and connected with the policy direction. It is meaningful that the role as a guideline for overcoming the gap between research and industry for the commercialization of the biohealth.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of external environment, organizational characteristics on informatization level in hospital settings, and to provide suggestions to improve the informatizaiton level of strategic information system of hospitals. In order to achieve study purpose, causal model was developed and empirically tested. Data were collected from 716 managers of 89 hospitals keeping information system in Busan and KyungNam Province using self-administered structured questionnaire. Major results of this study were as follows; First, among hospitals which had information training programs, informatization capacity was significantly higher. Moreover, informatization capacity was significantly varied by ownership type, institutional level, and number of beds of hospitals. Second, environmental uncertainty, intra-industry competition intensity, decision-making concentration, work standardization variables and perceived benefits were found to be significant affecting factors on informatization capacity as a result of path analysis. Third, support of top-management and perceived benefits were found to be significant affecting factors on informatization capability as a result of path analysis. Especially, informatization capability was positively affected by informatization capacity. Finally, perceived benefits was found to be significant affecting factors on informatization competency as a result of path analysis. Especially, informatization competency was positively affected by informatization capability.
