In this study, experimental analysis was performed about lateral load capacity and behavior of laterally loaded-bored rigid piles in muti-layered soil conditions. Lateral pile load tests were performed for muti-layerd soils consisting of different relative density. Ultimated lateral load capacities were measured from lateral load-displacement curves and compared with estimated values using theoretical methods. Bending moments and unit lateral capacity distribution of surrounding piles were measured from attached strain gauges and earth pressure sensors on the pile. It was found that ultimated lateral load capacities were different from the muti-layered soil conditions, and measured values were lower than estimated values. The bending moment distributions of the pile were similar all the time. Unit lateral capacity distributions were a little different from muti-layered soil conditions, but basically similar to the distribution proposed by Prasad and Chari (1999).

Spiders detect even tiny vibrations through their vibrational sensory organs. Leveraging their exceptional vibration sensing abilities, they can detect vibrations caused by prey or predators to plan attacks or perceive threats, utilizing them for survival. This paper introduces a nanoscale crack-based sensor mimicking the spider's sensory organ. Inspired by the slit sensory organ used by spiders to detect vibrations, the sensor with the cracks detects vibrations and pressure with high sensitivity. By controlling the depth of these cracks, they developed a sensor capable of detecting external mechanical signals with remarkable sensitivity. This sensor achieves a gauge factor of 16,000 at 2% strain with an applied tensile stress of 10 N. With high signal-to-noise ratio, it accurately recognizes desired vibrations, as confirmed through various evaluations of external force and biological signals (speech pattern, heart rate, etc.). This underscores the potential of utilizing biomimetic technology for the development of new sensors and their application across diverse industrial fields.

A new study was carried out to utilize a pencil drawing paper sensor (PDPS), which drew a line using a pencil on the paper, as a sensor. The sensing effect on 3 different papers based on the properties of PDPS was compared. The specimens were prepared by drawing 4B pencils on plain (A4), Hwasun, and Han papers. The silver paste was used to give good electrical contacts of the copper wires and the pencil drawn line. The chemical structures of 3 papers for PDPS by FT-IR spectrum analysis were similar and the comparative compact states of each paper were observed by optical microscope. From statistical evaluation of tensile strength using 3 papers, plain paper was chosen to be best for the PDPD. The optimum drawing number of PDPD was determined by changing the thickness of the paper with the drawing number. Electrical resistance (ER) with graphite on 3 different papers were compared. The changes in compression was observed through cyclic compressive test of composite materials, it was possible to predict the degree of strain sensing under compressive test. It leads to expectation of properties.

In this paper, we propose a gait pattern recognition method for intelligent prosthesis that enables walking in various environments of femoral amputees. The proposed gait mode changing method is a single sensor based algorithm which can discriminate gait surface and gait phase using only strain gauges sensor, and it is designed to simplify the algorithm based on multiple sensors of existing intelligent prosthesis and to reduce cost of prosthesis system. For the recognition algorithm, we analyzed characteristics of the ground reaction force generated during gait of normal person and defined gait step segmentation and gait detection condition, A gait analyzer was constructed for the gait experiment in the environment similar to the femoral amputee. The validity of the paper was verified through the defined detection conditions and fabricated instruments. The accuracy of the algorithm based on the single sensor was 95%. Based on the proposed single sensor-based algorithm, it is considered that the intelligent prosthesis system can be made inexpensive, and the user can directly grasp the state of the walking surface and shift the walking mode. It is confirmed that it is possible to change the automatic walking mode to switch the walking mode that is suitable for the walking mode.

We have studied tile detection techniques, which can determine the location and the weight of an intruder into infrastructure, by using fiber-optic ROTDR (Rayleigh optical time domain reflectometry) sensor and fiber-optic BOTDA (Brillouin Optical time domain analysis) sensor, which can use an optical fiber longer than that of ROTDR sensor Fiber-optic sensing plates of ROTDR sensor, which arc buried in sand, were prepared to respond the intruder effects. The signal of ROTDR was analyzed to confirm the detection performance. The constructed ROTDR could be used up to 10km at the pulse width of 30ns. The location error was less than 2 m and the weight could be detected as 4 grades, such as 20kgf, 40kgf, 60kgf and 80kgf. Also, fiber optic BOTDA sensor was developed to be able to detect intrusion effect through an optical fiber of tells of kilometers longer than ROTDR sensor. fiber-optic BOTDA sensor was constructed with 1 laser diode and 2 electro-optic modulators. The intrusion detection experiment was peformed by the strain inducing set-up installed on an optical table to simulate all intrusion effect. In the result of this experiment, the intrusion effort was well detected as the distance resolution of 3m through the fiber length of about 4.81km during 1.5 seconds.

Purpose of this study was to analyze power requirement of an agricultural tractor for baler operation. First, a power measurement system was developed and installed in a 75 kW agricultural tractor. Strain-gages with a telemetry system were used to measure torques of transmission and PTO input shafts. An engine tachometer was used to measure rotational speed of transmission and PTO input shafts. The measurement system also included pressure sensors to measure pressure of hydraulic pumps, an I/O interface to acquire the sensor signals, and an embedded system to determine power requirements. Second, field experiments were conducted at two PTO speed levels, and proportion of utilization ratio of rated engine power and power consumption of major parts (transmission input shaft, PTO input shaft, main hydraulic pump, and auxiliary hydraulic pump) were analyzed. Results of usage proportion of engine power for PTO speed level 1 and 2 were 4.1 and 2.2%, 31.5 and 16.3%, 49.6 and 59.7%, 14.4 and 20.8%, and 0.4 and 1.0%, respectively, for ratio of measured engine power to rated engine power of less than 25%, 25 ~ 50%, 50 ~ 75%, 75 ~ 100%, and greater than 100%. The results showed that the usage proportion increased in the range with the ratio of power requirement to rated engine power of over than 50% when the PTO gear was shifted from P1 to P2. Averaged engine power requirement for baling operation, tying and discharging operation, and total operation were 43.3, 37.3, and 42.0 kW and 49.0, 37.0, and 47.4 kW, respectively, for PTO speed level 1 and 2. Paired t-test showed significant difference in power consumption of engine, transmission input shaft, and PTO input shaft for different PTO speed levels. Therefore, the power consumption of engine for baler operation increased when the PTO gear was shifted from P1 to P2. It was indicated that the power requirement of tractor was affected by the PTO rotational speed for baler operation.

This research examines the drop impact of an external cooling unit package of an air conditioner system. The packaging is composed of a shock-absorbing material, which protects the package contents by absorbing the impact energy and other parts for fixture. Accurate quantification of the impact acceleration experienced by the package contents is necessary to design an effective packaging with minimal volume and sufficient shock absorbing capacity. Explicit time integration was used for the drop impact analyses. A finite element model of the package was constructed, material testing and material model selection were carried out, and sensors for data acquisition were modeled to obtain accurate simulation results. The results were compared with real physical test data. Due to imprecise modeling of the damping, the acceleration and strain values predicted by the simulation were larger than those from physical test. However, the trend of the history data and the peak deceleration value in the direction of impact showed good agreements. Thus, the analysis model and scheme are suitable for the design of an air conditioner cooling unit package.

When the motor is rotating, the torque and rpm are varying as the loads or the driving status connecting through reduction units are changing. On the contrary, one can monitor the changes of the loads or the driving status in the manner of measuring motor torque and rpm. There is a torque measuring method using the strain gauge and bridge circuit. But, because this is the contact method, it has the life time which is dependent on rotating velocity and used time. So this system demands on replacement of some Parts or whole system itself for maintenance. And this system is also relatively big and expensive, requiring preceding annoying process. In this paper, we are going to suppose non-contact method to measure torque and rpm using the Hall effects sensor For this we have made the planetary geared reduction motor with Hall sensors and with the monitoring system. The monitoring system displays the sensing data(torque, rpm) and calculated data( power) and also has the network capability with Bluetooth protocol. Our solution is much more inexpensive ;md simple method to measure torque and rpm than before.

The strain characteristics of a fiber optic Fabry-Perot pressure sensor with high sensitivity using a $Si_{3}N_{4}/SiO_{2}/Si_{3}N_{4}$ (N/O/N) diaphragm is experimentally investigated. A 600 nm thick N/O/N diaphragm was fabricated by silicon anisotropic etching technology in 44 wt% KOH solution. An interferometric fiber optic pressure sensor has been manufactured by using a fiber optic Fabry-Perot intereferometer and a N/O/N diaphragm. The 2 cm length fiber optic Fabry-Perot interferometers in the continuous length of single mode fiber were produced with two pieces of single mode fiber coated with $TiO_{2}$ dielectric film utilizing the fusion splicing technique. The one end of the fiber optic Fabry-Perot interferometer was bonded to a N/O/N diaphragm. and the other end was connected to an optical setup through a 3 dB coupler. For the N/O/N diaphragm sized $2{\times}2\;mm^{2}$ and $8{\times}8\;mm^{2}$, the pressure sensitivity was measured 0.11 rad/kPa and 1.57 rad/kPa, respectively, and both of the nonlinearities were less than 0.2% FS.

Stress-balanced flat 150 nm-$Si_{3}N_{4}$/300 nm-$SiO_{2}$/150 nm-$Si_{3}N_{4}$ dielectric membrane on silicon substrate has been fabricated. Analyses of stress-deflection and stress-temperature, and visual inspection for the strain diagnostic test patterns were performed in order to characterize stress properties of the membrane. The $SiO_{2}$ layers sandwiched between two $Si_{3}N_{4}$ layers were deposited by three different techniques(PECVD, LPCVD, and APCVD) for the purpose of investigating the dependence of stress on the deposition methods. Some extent of tensile stress in the membrane was always observed regardless of the deposition methods, however it could be balanced against silicon substrate by post-wet oxidation in $1,150^{\circ}C$. Stress-temperature characteristics of the membranes showed that APCVD-LTO was better as mid-$SiO_{2}$ layer than PECVD - or LPCVD - $SiO_{2}$ when there was no oxidation process.
