  • An HTS racetrack-type coil without turn-to-turn insulation was characterized by critical current, sudden discharge, and over-current tests with respect to external pressures applied to the straight sections of the coil. The thermal stability of the non-insulated HTS racetrack-type coil was remarkably enhanced with increasing external pressure applied to the straight sections of racetrack-type coil. Furthermore, over-current test results confirmed that the non-insulated HTS racetrack-type coil with increased turn-to-turn thermal contact has the potential to be manufactured into field coils of HTS wind turbine generators with highly enhanced thermal and electrical stabilities.

  • In this paper, hem antenna composed of rectangular hern, circular polarizer and straight-type mode convertor is designed and fabricated. The circular polarizer is designed as a dielectric type having broadband characteristic, and it is inserted into the rectangular hem with $45^{\circ}$ inclination. The straight-type mode convertor has a terrace-type structure in order to convert the TEM mode signal of coaxial cable to the TE mode of rectangular waveguide, and this structure minimizes conversion loss. Fabricated hem antenna operates at $30.085\sim30.885GHz$ and has VSWR < 1.5, Axial ratio < 1.0dB and antenna gain of $6.7\sim7.0dBi$ in the band.

  • Purpose: In this study, subjects with femoral anterior glide type were examined to investigate the effects of femoral head anterior glide fixation during active straight leg raise on the strength of the hip flexor in a supine position. Methods: Fifteen subjects participated in this study. All subjects were classified through an evaluation form for femoral anterior glide type (FAGT). The strength of the hip flexor was measured during active straight leg raise test (ASLR test), and compared with and without femoral anterior glide fixation in a supine position. The fixation of the femoral head was achieved as per the therapist's manual guidelines. Paired t-test was applied to compare changes in the strength of the hip flexor according to fixation conditions. The level of statistical significance was set at α=0.05. Results: The strength of the hip flexor was lesser during the ASLR test with fixation compared to without fixation (p=0.007). Conclusion: The strength of the hip flexor decreases with fixation. Results of this study revealed a difference between hip flexor strength, with and without femoral anterior glide fixation during ASLR, in subjects with femoral anterior glide type.

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy tuning PID controller for straight line type inverted pendulum. The conventional PID controller which is used widely in industrial field has fatal drawback on determining control gains for practical system. The proposed controller tunes the gains automatically based on fuzzy urle derived from the experience of expert operator. The results of simulation and experiment show the efficiency of the proposed control method comparing with conventional PID control method in terms of rising time, overshoot, and overall errors.

  • In this study a general Galerkin FE formulation of the incompressible Reynolds equation is derived for lubrication analyses of noncontacting mechanical face seals. Then, the formulation is applied to analyze the flexibly mounted statortype reactor coolant pump seals of local nuclear power plants, which have deep straight grooves or plane coning on their primary seal ring faces. Their various lubrication performances have been predicted. Results show that the analyzed deep straight groove seal should have a net coning of less than 0.6 to satisfy the leakage limit. And for the same amount of equilibrium opening force the plane coning seal requires to have a 3 times higher dimensionless coning than the deep straight groove seal.

  • Despite rapid technological advance and increased automation facilities, many jobs and activities in our living require manual materials handling(MMH). These include wide variety of activities such as moving things, lifting bags. boxes or cartons, etc. Many studies found that handle could affect on maximum acceptable weight of lifting, but there were few studies f3r the effects of work posture and coupling in lifting tote box. This study performed that ten male college students were required to lift a tote box with and without handle for three postures (bending, straight, right angle posture). From the experiment, following results were obtained. (1) MVC reduced maximum 23% by type of handle. (2) MVC was highest in straight posture, but was lowest in right angle posture. (3) As a result of ANOVA, MVC paid attention to posture and coupling. (p<0.01) (4) To all handle types, biceps brachii activity was increased in right angle posture. but reduced in straight posture. (5) To all posture, biceps brachii activity was most lively in no handle. The results of MVC measurement, subjective rating, EMG analysis, statistic analysis showed that maximum acceptable weight of lifting was influenced by type of handle and straight posture was more comfortable than other postures. Based on these results, it was concluded that acceptable weight of lifting has to differ for work posture and coupling.

  • This study selected three model designs used for air injection type welding clothes designed for insulation purposes and analyzed the performance of each design. The bending characteristics were analyzed in order to identify the flexibility of the welded areas; subsequently, the seam breaking strength and water pressure resistance were analyzed to identify the bonding strength. In addition, two types of waterproof fabric, polyurethane (PU) coated 2 layer and PU laminated 2 layer fabrics, were used for a performance analysis, according to fabric processing specifications. The circle type showed the highest flexibility in the terms of bending characteristics that influence wearability and were followed by the wave and the straight type. In terms of breaking strength, the straight type showed the highest breaking strength, followed by the wave and the circle type. The water pressure resistance analysis found that the wave type was superior to the straight type in terms of water pressure resistance. The wave type is deemed to be a design type suitable for maximizing performance, provided that the issue of stabilization in the welding production process is addressed. Looking at the bending characteristics of waterproof fabric for each specification, the laminating waterproof cloth outperformed the coated waterproof cloth in terms of flexibility. However, in terms of seam breaking strength, the coated waterproof cloth outperformed the laminated cloth. In contrast, the water pressure resistance of the laminated waterproof fabric was found to be higher than the coated waterproof fabric, leading to the conclusion that the bonding strength of the laminated waterproof fabric is higher than that of the coated waterproof fabric based on the assumption of injecting air.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of implant shape and bone preparation on the primary stability of the implants using resonance frequency analysis. Methods: Sixty bovine rib blocks were used for soft and hard bone models. Each rib block received two types of dental implant fixtures; a straight-screw type and tapered-screw type. Final drilling was done at three different depths for each implant type; 1 mm under-preparation, standard preparation, and 1 mm over-preparation. Immediately after fixture insertion, the implant stability quotient (ISQ) was measured for each implant. Results: Regardless of the bone type, the ISQ values of the straight-screw type and tapered-screw type implants were not significantly different (P>0.05). Depth of bone preparation had no significant effect on the ISQ value of straight-screw type implants (P>0.05). For the tapered-screw type implants, under-preparation significantly increased the ISQ value (P<0.05), whereas overpreparation significantly decreased the ISQ value (P<0.05). Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, it is concluded that bone density seemed to have a prevailing effect over implant shape on primary stability. The primary stability of the tapered-screw type implants might be enhanced by delicate surgical techniques.

  • Ring-type steel fibers (RSFs) of the closed circular shape, have different resistance mechanisms other than straight steel fibers. RSFs also maintain the same value of the orientation factor for the plane enclosed by the fiber ring perimeter. In this research, comparative studies were performed for the panels reinforced with RSFs and with straight steel fibers of $15kg/m^3$ and $30kg/m^3$, respectively. Resisting mechanisms of RSFs were identified and higher toughness indices were experimentally observed for the concrete panels reinforced with RSFs than with straight steel fibers. Orientation factor for the RSF was suggested. It was found that RSFs were more effective in increasing toughness for the panel specimens with relatively thinner thickness than beam specimens.
