Lactic Acid Bacteria Mixture as Inoculants on Low Moisture Italian Ryegrass Silage Fermentation

  • The effects of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) mixtures on low moisture Italian ryegrass (IRG) silage fermentation was evaluated in field conditions. The experiment was categorized into two groups: Un-inoculated (Control) and Inoculated with LAB mixture for four storage periods (45, 90, 180, and 365 days, respectively). Silage inoculated with the LAB mixture had the lowest pH with highest lactic acid production than the control from beginning at 45-365 days at all moistures. Higher LAB counts were observed in inoculated silages than the control silages at whole experimental periods. It is a key reason for the rapid acidification and higher lactic acid production in silages during the storage periods. Overall results suggest that an adding of LAB mixture had positive effects on the increasing aerobic stability of silage and preserved its quality for an extended duration.

저온저장이 포식성 천적인 참딱부리긴노린재와 갈고리뱀잠자리붙이의 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Cold Storage on Quality of Geocoris pallidipennis and Micromus angulatus)

  • 참딱부리긴노린재의 약충과 성충 모두 $5^{\circ}C$ 조건에서 30일 이상 50%의 누적생존율을 나타내며 저장이 가능하였다. 생존율이 가장 높았던 저장 온도인 $5^{\circ}C$에서의 저장기간별 참딱부리긴노린재의 산란수는 저장기간이 길어질수록 감소하였으나, 4주까지의 저장은 산란수에 영향을 주지 않았다. 3주간의 저온저장된 참딱부리긴노린재 성충은 담배가루이 4~5령 약충을 포식하는데 포식량에 영향을 받지 않았다. 따라서 참딱부리긴노린재 약충과 성충은 $5^{\circ}C$ 조건에서 3주간의 저장이 가능한 것으로 판단되었다. 갈고리뱀잠자리붙이 성충은 꿀물을 제공하며 $5^{\circ}C$에서 저장하였을 때 20주(140일)까지 50%의 누적생존율을 나타내며 저장이 가능하였지만, 2주 이상의 저온저장은 산란력에 부정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 저온저장기간이 길어질수록 갈고리뱀잠자리붙이의 진딧물 포식량은 감소하였으나. 5주까지의 저온저장은 진딧물 포식량에 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 참딱부리긴노린재와 갈고리뱀잠자리붙이 두 종 천적의 단일 저온저장이 가능할 것으로 보여 생물학적 방제의 유용한 도구로 활용 가능할 것으로 사료된다.

탈락 유치 내 치수 세포의 보관 용액과 기간에 따른 생존 (Effect of Storage Media and Duration on Pulpal Cell Viability in Exfoliated Deciduous Teeth)

  • 가정에서 유치가 탈락하였을 경우 쉽게 구할 수 있는 저장 용액에 보관한 후, 보관되었던 유치에서 세포를 배양할 수 있다면 지금보다 더 많은 유치로부터 줄기 세포를 추출할 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구는 유치의 치수 세포가 다양한 보관 용액의 종류와 기간에 영향을 받는지 확인해 보고자 하였다. 330개의 탈락 유치를 신선군, 건조군, 세포배양액 2, 4, 7일 보관군, 우유 2, 4, 7일 보관군, 생리식염수 2, 4, 7일 보관군으로 각각 30개씩 무작위로 나누었다. 각 군 간의 유치 치수 조직 세포의 일차 배양을 시행하여 성공한 개수와 실패한 개수를 계산하여 생존 성공률을 비교하였다. 일차 배양 결과 보관 기간이 늘어날수록 일차 배양 시 세포의 생존 성공률이 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 2일 보관군과 4일 보관군까지 세포배양액, 우유, 생리식염수 간의 보관 용액에 따른 성공률의 유의할 만한 차이는 없었다. 그러나 7일 보관군에서는 세포배양액에 비해 우유와 생리식염수에 보관한 유치에서 성공률이 유의하게 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 유치 발거 후 우유나 생리식염수 등의 보관용액에 일정 기간 보관 후 그 치수 조직을 세포 배양에 사용하는 것이 가능하지만 보관 기간이 길어질수록 세포 획득 가능성이 줄어든다.

여름 착색단고추의 저장에 따른 품종별 품질 변화 (Changes of Fruit Quality in Response to Storage on Sweet Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) Cultivars in Summer)

  • 착색단고추의 일본 수출시장 확대를 위해서는 단경기인 여름철에 고랭지 여름재배를 통한 연중공급이 매우 중요하게 여겨지고 있지만, 여름에 생산된 과실은 상품성이 쉽게 상실되는 문제점을 안고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 여름에 생산된 착색단고추 7품종(빨간색 'Goal', 'Plenty', 'Jubilee', 노란색 'Derby', 'Romeca', 'Mydas' 및 오렌지색 'Maximalia' 등)의 저장에 따른 품질의 변화를 비교하였다. 시험에 사용된 과실들은 합천의 600-800m고랭지에서 생산된 것을 구입하여 수출용 박스에 포장하여 $10^{\circ}C$에서 저장하였고, 과실품질 조사는 4주간 4일 간격으로 하였다. 감모율은 'Jubilee'가 가장 낮았고 'Romeca'가 높았다. 경도는 'Goal'이 저장 4주 동안 높게 유지되었고, 색깔별로는 빨간색 품종들이 높은 경도를 보였다. 과색의 L value는 저장 기간이 길어질수록 감소하였는데, 'Jubilee'가 가장 민감하게 반응하였다. 종자의 갈변은 'Plenty'와 'Derby'가 가장 많았다. 과실의 부패는 16-20일부터 발생하였는데, 'Maximalia'와 'Plenty'가 빨리 시작되었다. 상품성은 'Jubilee'와 'Romeca'가 저장 16일째까지 70% 이상을 유지해 가장 높았지만, 저장 24일부터는 대부분의 품종에서 20%이하로 상품성을 거의 상실하였다. 따라서 여름에 생산된 착색단고추 과실들은 $10^{\circ}C$에서 저장할 경우, 2주정도 까지는 80%내외의 상품성을 유지할 수 있었다.

Kinetic Behavior of Escherichia coli on Various Cheeses under Constant and Dynamic Temperature

  • In this study, we developed kinetic models to predict the growth of pathogenic Escherichia coli on cheeses during storage at constant and changing temperatures. A five-strain mixture of pathogenic E. coli was inoculated onto natural cheeses (Brie and Camembert) and processed cheeses (sliced Mozzarella and sliced Cheddar) at 3 to 4 log CFU/g. The inoculated cheeses were stored at 4, 10, 15, 25, and $30^{\circ}C$ for 1 to 320 h, with a different storage time being used for each temperature. Total bacteria and E. coli cells were enumerated on tryptic soy agar and MacConkey sorbitol agar, respectively. E. coli growth data were fitted to the Baranyi model to calculate the maximum specific growth rate (${\mu}_{max}$; log CFU/g/h), lag phase duration (LPD; h), lower asymptote (log CFU/g), and upper asymptote (log CFU/g). The kinetic parameters were then analyzed as a function of storage temperature, using the square root model, polynomial equation, and linear equation. A dynamic model was also developed for varying temperature. The model performance was evaluated against observed data, and the root mean square error (RMSE) was calculated. At $4^{\circ}C$, E. coli cell growth was not observed on any cheese. However, E. coli growth was observed at $10{\circ}C$ to $30^{\circ}C$C with a ${\mu}_{max}$ of 0.01 to 1.03 log CFU/g/h, depending on the cheese. The ${\mu}_{max}$ values increased as temperature increased, while LPD values decreased, and ${\mu}_{max}$ and LPD values were different among the four types of cheese. The developed models showed adequate performance (RMSE = 0.176-0.337), indicating that these models should be useful for describing the growth kinetics of E. coli on various cheeses.

Investigating InSnZnO as an Active Layer for Non-volatile Memory Devices and Increasing Memory Window by Utilizing Silicon-rich SiOx for Charge Storage Layer

  • In this study, we have investigated indium tin zinc oxide (ITZO) as an active channel for non-volatile memory (NVM) devices. The electrical and memory characteristics of NVM devices using multi-stack gate insulator SiO2/SiOx/SiOxNy (OOxOy) with Si-rich SiOx for charge storage layer were also reported. The transmittance of ITZO films reached over 85%. Besides, ITZO-based NVM devices showed good electrical properties such as high field effect mobility of 25.8 cm2/V.s, low threshold voltage of 0.75 V, low subthreshold slope of 0.23 V/dec and high on-off current ratio of $1.25{\times}107$. The transmission Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy of SiOx charge storage layer with the richest silicon content showed an assignment at peaks around 2000-2300 cm-1. It indicates that many silicon phases and defect sources exist in the matrix of the SiOx films. In addition, the characteristics of NVM device showed a retention exceeding 97% of threshold voltage shift after 104 s and greater than 94% after 10 years with low operating voltage of +11 V at only 1 ms programming duration time. Therefore, the NVM fabricated by high transparent ITZO active layer and OOxOy memory stack has been applied for the flexible memory system.

Does Type I Truly Dominate Hepatic Glycogen Storage Diseases in Korea?: A Single Center Study

  • Purpose: There are no studies of hepatic glycogen storage diseases (GSDs) other than type I and III in Korea. We aimed on investigating the characteristics of hepatic GSDs in Korea diagnosed and followed at a single center. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients who were diagnosed as GSD and followed at Samsung Medical Center from January, 1997 to December, 2013. Clinical manifestations, laboratory results, treatment, and prognosis were investigated. Results: Twenty-one patients were included in the study. The types of 17 patients were confirmed by enzyme activity tests and/or gene analysis. GSD Ia was diagnosed in 7 patients (33.3%), Ib in 1 patient (4.8%), III in 2 patients (9.5%), IV in 1 patient (4.8%), and IX in 6 patients (28.6%). Types other than GSD I constituted 52.9% (9/17) of the patients diagnosed with a specific type of hepatic GSD. The median age at presentation was 2 years. Hepatomegaly was observed in 95.2%, elevated liver transaminases in 90.5%, and hyperlactacidemia in 81.0% of the patients. The duration for follow-up was $77{\pm}62.0$ months. Uncooked corn starch was initiated in all the patients. No mortality was observed during the follow-up period, and liver transplantation was performed in 14.3%. Conclusion: Types other than GSD I comprised more than half of the patients diagnosed with a specific type of hepatic GSD. Clinical suspicion and thorough evaluation of hepatic GSDs in Korea should be focused not only on GSD I, but also on other types.

수퇘지 정자의 운동성, 생존성 및 체외수정 능력에 대한 시판 액상 정액 보존액과 보존 기간의 영향 (Effect of Storage in Different Commercial Semen Extenders on the Motility, Viability and Fertility In Vitro of Boar Spermatozoa)

  • The objective of this study was to determine the effect of semen extenders on the motility, viability and fertility in vitro of spermatozoa during storage of fresh boar semen diluted in different commercial extenders used for pig artificial insemination (AI). In this experiment, semen were diluted in Androhep plus, Beltsville Thawing Solution (BTS), Modena, Seminark and Vitasem LD. Five ejaculates were collected from three Duroc boars and sub-samples were diluted ($30{\times}10^6$ spermatozoa/ml) in different extenders. Semen was stored at $170^{\circ}C$ for 10 days. Sperm motility and viability was assessed using Computer-Assisted Semen Analysis (CASA) and flow-cytometry on 1, 3, 5 and 10 day post collection The motility of spermatozoa stored in different extenders was gradually decreased by increasing the duration of storage of semen. However, there was not significant1y different in the sperm motility and viability among other extenders. On the other hand, the in vitro-matured oocytes were fertilized and cultured in vitro to assess the fertility of boar spermatozoa stored for 3 and 10 days in different extenders. The percentage of morula and blastocyst were taken as indicators of fertility in vitro of spermatozoa. Therefore, there were no differences in the rate of embryos developed to the molular and blastocyst stage. There were no differences in the motility and fertility in vitro among 5 kinds of commercial boar semen extenders.

가정에서의 튀김유지 재사용과 보관에 따른 산패도 및 관능적 특성 평가 (Degree of Rancidity and Sensory Characteristics of Frying Oils with Reuse and Storage at Home)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the duration of frying and storage periods on physicochemical characteristics of various oils using at home. The materials used for the study consisted of four kinds of vegetable oils: soybean, canola, extra virgin olive and pure olive oils, and shortening. Chicken breasts were fried in oils heated at $180^{\circ}C$. The oils were stored with or without filtering and reused 3 times, during the 10 day period. The extra virgin and pure olive oils showed higher acid, peroxide value and yellowness than the other oils (p<0.05), but soybean oil showed the highest increase in acid, peroxide value and yellowness with reusing and storage. In sensory evaluation, the chicken breast fried with soybean oils remarkably decreased the overall acceptance. These results suggested that all frying oils are available because acid and peroxide values of the oils are lower than the standard level. However, reusing soybean oil should be noted with caution in that it is very easy to reduce rancidity, and extra virgin olive oil is not appropriate for frying.

  • 수도의 직파재배에 있어서 가장 취약점인 출아.입묘율을 향상시키는데 많은 영향을 미치는 중배축 신장에 대하여 검토하였던 바 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 품종의 기원별 중배축장은 다수형 품종이 9.6mm로 재래종과 일본형 각각 4.4, 3.2mm 보다도 훨씬 컸다. 2. 생태형별 중배축 신장은 tjereh, aman, aus, boro 및 bulu 순으로 tjereh가 29.3mm로 buld의 5.4mm에 비해 약 5배나 컸다. 3. 품종간 중배축장은 재래종에서 백경조, 다다조 및 해조가, 일본형은 상풍벼, 팔달 및 간량도가, 다수형 품종에서는 원풍벼, 가야벼, 밀양30호 및 수정벼가 컸다. 4. 종자 숙도별 중배축장은 개화 1주후 채종 종자가 39.3mm로 가장 컸고, 성숙일수가 길어짐에 따라 중배축장은 점차 작아졌다. 5. 종자 저장기간이 길어질수록 종자숙도와 관계없이 중배축장은 점차 감소하는 경향이었고, 저장온도 5$^{\circ}C$구가 15$^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$에 비하여 중배축장의 감소정도가 작았다.
