The rapid development of IT, many conventional passive jobs have been automated. This automation increases the leisure time of many people and various services are being developed for them. In addition, with the advent of smart devices that are compact and portable, it is possible to use various internet services without any time and place discretion. Various studies based on virtualization are under way to efficiently store and process large data generated by many devices and services. Desktop Storage Virtualization (DSV), which integrates and provides users with on-premise-based distributed desktop resources during these studies, uses virtualization to consolidate unused resources within distributed, legacy desktops. This DSV is very important for providing high reliability to users. In addition, research on hierarchical structure and resource integration for efficient data distribution storage processing in a distributed desktop-based resource integration environment is underway. However, there is a lack of research on efficient operation in case of server failure in on-premise resource integration environment. In this paper, we propose Non-disruptive Server Management (NSM) which can actively cope with the failure of desktop server in distributed desktop storage environment based on on-premise. NSM is easy to add and remove desktops in a desktop-based integrated environment. In addition, an alternative server is actively performed in response to a failure occurrence.

Virtualization has become one of the most helpful techniques in computing systems, and today it is prevalent in several computing environments including desktops, data-centers, and enterprises. However, since I/O layers are implemented to be oblivious to the I/O behaviors on virtual machines (VM), there still exists an I/O scalability issue in virtualized systems. In particular, when a multi-queue solid state drive (SSD) is used as a secondary storage, each system reveals a semantic gap that degrades the overall performance of the VM. This is due to two key problems, accelerated lock contentions and the I/O parallelism issue. In this paper, we propose a novel approach, including the design of virtual CPU (vCPU)-dedicated queues and I/O threads, which efficiently distributes the lock contentions and addresses the parallelism issue of Virtio-blk-data-plane in virtualized environments. Our approach is based on the above principle, which allocates a dedicated queue and an I/O thread for each vCPU to reduce the semantic gap. Our experimental results with various I/O traces clearly show that our design improves the I/O operations per second (IOPS) in virtualized environments by up to 155% over existing QEMU-based systems.
It is important to improve the performance of storage in the home cloud environment within the virtualized IoT gateway since the performance of applications deeply depends on storage. Though SSD caching is applied in order to improve the storage, it is only used for read-cache due to the limitations of SSD such as poor write performance and small write endurance. However, it is important to improve performance of the write operation in the home cloud server, in order to improve the end-user experience. This paper propose a novel SSD caching which considers write-data as well as read-data. We validate the enhancement in the performance of random-write by transforming it to the sequential patterns.

In the global IT market, a lot of issues for responding to various environmental regulations emerged. In case of the data centers, it is consuming huge amounts of energy to maintain. So there have been various technical attempts as Consolidation, Virtualization, Optimization to efficiently manage energy and data storage to fix the problems. In this paper, we propose a new RAID(Redundant Array of Independent Disks) mechanism which is differing the intensity of power consumption and works to provide data protection and disaster recovery(backup, mirroring etc.) to stratify multiple volumes. G-RAID minimize the power consumption and the lower of I/O performance by selecting the volume depending on the frequency of data access while classifying the power consumption between volumes in storage system. Also, it is possible that a filesystem and block map information of G-RAID is processed by basic unit which is group located in a row for the blocks to work efficiently and can minimize the performance degradation of block mapping load by the access frequency in each groups. As a result, we obtained to elevate a little bit of response time caused by block relocation work, but showed the decrease of power consumption by 38%.
Recently, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) has been widely adopted to ensure secure protection of enterprise data and provide users with a centrally managed execution environment. However, user experiences may be restricted due to the limited functionalities of thin clients in VDI. If thick client devices like laptops are used, then data leakage may be possible due to malicious software installed in thick client mobile devices. In this paper, we present Data Firewall, a security framework to manage and protect security-sensitive data in thick client mobile devices. Data Firewall consists of three components: Virtual Machine (VM) image management, client VM integrity attestation, and key management for Protected Storage. There are two types of execution VMs managed by Data Firewall: Normal VM and Secure VM. In Normal VM, a user can execute any applications installed in the laptop in the same manner as before. A user can access security-sensitive data only in the Secure VM, for which the integrity should be checked prior to access being granted. All the security-sensitive data are stored in the space called Protected Storage for which the access keys are managed by Data Firewall. Key management and exchange between client and server are handled via Trusted Platform Module (TPM) in the framework. We have analyzed the security characteristics and built a prototype to show the performance overhead of the proposed framework.

In this paper, we propose a MCFQ I/O scheduler that is implemented by modifying the existing Linux CFQ I/O scheduler. MCFQ observes whether the user requested I/O bandwidth weight is well distributed. Based on the I/O bandwidth observation, we improved I/O performance of the existing bandwidth distribution ability by dynamically controlling the I/O time-slice of the virtual machine. The use of SSDs as storage has been increasing dramatically in recent computer systems due to their fast performance and low power usage. As the usage of SSD increases and prices fall, virtualized system administrators can take advantage of SSDs. However, studies on guaranteeing SLA(Service Level Agreement) services when multiple virtual machines share the SSD is still incomplete. In this paper was conducted to improve performance of the bandwidth distribution when multiple virtual machine are sharing a single SSD storage in a virtualized environment. In particular, it was observed that the performance of the bandwidth distribution varied widely when garbage collection occurs in the SSD. In order to reduce performance variance, we add a MoTS(Manager of Time Slice) on existing CFQ I/O scheduler.
Recently, various cloud service has been being provided on mobile devices as well as desktop pc and server computer. Also, Smartphone users are very rapidly increasing, and they are using it for enjoying various services(cloud service, game, banking service, mobile office, etc.). So, research to utilize resources on mobile device has been conducted. In this paper, We have suggested efficient method of cloud resource management by using information of available physical resources(CPU, memory, storage, etc.) between mobile devices, and information of physical resource in mobile device. Suggested technology is possible to guarantee real-time process and efficiently manage resources.

Managing students' data is a high prioritized duty of the university administration since most of the school affairs are proceed based on that database. Universities have invested in IT assets such as servers, storage, database, and networks. However, continuing investment in IT infrastructure is impossible due to limited budget and rapid changes in the educational environment. As cloud computing diffuse, universities are trying to reduce costs and improve efficiency by increasing server utilization, unlike when physically investing. We designed a hypothetical academic information management system based on cloud computing by utilizing the advanced server virtualization technology. This administrative cloud system allows universities to improve the availability of the system with low cost. The system demonstrates its flexibility of using data resources and immediacy of resumption.
