An Experimental Study on the Performance of Liquid Spill Stopper to Prevent Flood through the Hull Punctures (선박파공으로 인한 선박침수 방지를 위한 파공봉쇄장치 성능의 실험적 연구)

  • This paper considers the issue of LSS(Liquid Spill Stopper)'s performance verification testing against external resisting force. The importance of the test is to ascertain the possibility of liquid spill stop quickly and efficiently by LSS. The method adopted in this research is the experimental device for puncture's inflow pressure and test the adhesive (magnetic) force on shell plates during the sailing. The major results of the paper are the followings : (a) The performance of LSS against 40 and 100mm diameter puncture was confirmed under 1.0bar. (b) LSS near bow detached first at 20.2 knots. This indicates that LSS can recover the damaged movability needed to naval warships' operation as well as merchant ships.

  • Torque converter is a complex turbomachine used to transfer power smoothly from an engine to a transmission by lock-up clutch. A torque converter consists of the hydrodynamic clutch device and the lock-up clutch device. The retaining plate and driven plate are part of the lock-up clutch. The lock-up clutch connects directly to achieve the improvement of efficiency and fuel consumption. In this paper, using structure analysis of stress distribution on the shape of the mechanical stopper on retaining plate. The shape of mechanical stopper has effect on the stress distribution of lock-up clutch.

Improvement of Pump Performance and Suction Performance of a Very Low Specific Speed Centrifugal Pump (극저비속도 원심펌프의 펌프성능 및 흡입성능 향상)

  • There are high expectations of improving the performance of a centrifugal pump in the range of very low specific speed which has been developed recently for the use instead of a conventional positive displacement pump. However, even though elaborated studies has been done for the pump intensively, the pump performance has not increased so much. Also, it is difficult to find detailed information from published literatures for suction performance of the very low specific speed centrifugal pump. Therefore, this study is aimed to improve the pump performance more and to make clear suction performance of the very low specific speed centrifugal pump. Recircular flow stopper is installed on the pump casing wall at the region of impeller outlet to improve the pump performance and J-Groove is also installed at the inlet of the pump casing for the purpose of suppressing occurrence of cavitation as well as improving pump performance. The result suggests that the simultaneous improvement of pump performance and suction performance of the very low specific speed centrifugal pump is possible by adopting optimum configuration of the recirculation flow stopper and J-Groove.

A Study on Improvement of a-Si:H TFT Operating Speed

  • The a-Si:H TFTs decreasing parasitic capacitance of source-drain is fabricated on glass. The structure of a-Si:H TFTs is inverted staggered. The gate electrode is formed by patterning with length of $8{\mu}m{\sim}16{\mu}m$ and width of $80{\sim}200{\mu}m$ after depositing with gate electrode (Cr) $1500{\AA}$ under coming 7059 glass substrate. We have fabricated a-SiN:H, conductor, etch-stopper and photoresistor on gate electrode in sequence, respectively. The thickness of these, thin films is formed with a-SiN:H ($2000{\mu}m$), a-Si:H($2000{\mu}m$) and $n^+a-Si:H$ ($500{\mu}m$). We have deposited $n^+a-Si:H$, NPR(Negative Photo Resister) layer after forming pattern of Cr gate electrode by etch-stopper pattern. The NPR layer by inverting pattern of upper gate electrode is patterned and the $n^+a-Si:H$ layer is etched by the NPR pattern. The NPR layer is removed. After Cr layer is deposited and patterned, the source-drain electrode is formed. The a-Si:H TFTs decreasing parasitic capacitance of source-drain show drain current of $8{\mu}A$ at 20 gate voltages, $I_{on}/I_{off}$ ratio of ${\sim}10^8$ and $V_{th}$ of 4 volts.

  • Recently the construction of railway sections passing the central area of cities and stations under railway lines are increasing, and then it is urgently required to take the countermeasures against the railway vibration and the second-phase noise radiated from it. The most efficient countermeasure, out of technologies developed up to now, is the floating slab track which is the track system isolated from the sub-structure by springs. In other countries, the source technologies for anti-vibration design and vibration isolator - one of key components - have been developed and many installation experiences have been accumulated. However, in Korea, since the system design technology and technologies for key components are not yet developed, the foreign system are being introduced without any adjustment, and the key component, vibration isolator, depends on imports. In this study, analysis on floating slab system installed rubber mat and stopper is carried for the examination on the safety of floating slab system.

  • Recently, many railway stations are built under the railway line in urban area. The passage of railway vehicles generates mechanical vibrations of a wide range of frequency. Thus, it is required to place structural vibration isolation systems to reduce vibration and noise originating from surrounding environments. This study is to investigate the maximum floating slab length based on track/floating slab interaction analyses. Actions to be taken into account include temperature, braking/acceleration, bending of the deck, and creep/shrinkage. The additional rail stress has been chosen for the criterion for the maximum slab length. In addition, further analyses are performed to include the stopper which restrict the in-plane movement of the floating slab track. Several alternatives for stopper positions were thoroughly studied in this study.

The Preventive measure and the cause analysis for field coils breaking away from the rotor in hydro generator (수차발전기 회전자 Coil 이탈 원인분석 및 방지대책)

  • This paper presents the preventive measure and the cause for field coils breaking away from the rotor, which lately occurred when No.1 hydro generator was operating in Chung-Ju Dam No.2 Hydro Power Station. In findings, we ascertained the truth of contact between rotor rim and field coils, and think that field coils will break away from the rotor because of mechanical stress according as continuous operation after completion. 1985. Therefore, we conclude that the preventive measure for such a phenomenon is that stopper should be installed between rotor rim and field coils, and bolts should be tightened because of operating characteristic however there are not the design standards for installing stopper in generator rotor internationally.

The Dynamic Performance of a Electro-Dynamometer Type Protective Relay for the D.C Component in the Fault Current (전류력계형 계전기의 고장전류중 직류전류분에 의한 동작특성)

  • An analytical investigation has been carried out for the motion of moving element in electro-dynamometer type directional power relay under A.C source. For the more a time dependent kinetic performance of the element can also be deduced for the D.C component in fault current. The results obtained thus for show that, in the relay with stopper, the performance time for the equal D.C and A.C component can be shorten ca. 0.5Hz in comparison with the fact, the performance time exhibits to delay ca. 0.75Hz under the same conditions for the case of the relay without stopper, it appear that these differences of performance times will not give vise any difficultys for the apects of practical case, however, the obtain results can be applicable in the course of the design of the relay.
