Determining stop spacing is a very important process in transit system planning. This study is involved in an analytical approach to decide the transit stop spacing. Transit stop spacing should be longer as 1) user access speed, 2) user travel time, and 3) dwell time increase, and shorter as 1) passengers (boardings and alightings) and 2) headway increase. In this study, a methodology is proposed to determine transit stop spacing to minimize total cost (user cost plus operator cost) with irregular passenger distribution (boardings and alightings) Without considering in-vehicle passengers, the transit stop spacing should be shorter in the concentrated sections of the passenger distribution than in others to minimize total cost. Through the conceptual analysis, it is verified that the transit stop spacing could be longer as the in-vehicle passengers increase in certain sections. This study proposes a simple practical method to determine transit stop spacing and locations instead of a dynamic programming method which generally includes a complex and difficult calculation. If the space axis is changed to a time axis. the methodology of this study could be expanded to analyze a solution for the transit service (or headway) schedule problem.

A vehicle longitudinal control strategy with guaranteed string stability for vehicle stop-and-go(SG) cruise control is presented in this paper. The SG cruise control systems should be designed such that string stability can be guaranteed in addition to that every vehicle in a string of SG cruise control vehicles must track any bounded acceleration and velocity profile of its preceding vehicle with a bounded spacing and velocity error. An optimal vehicle following control law based on the information of the 1311owing distance (clearance) and its velocity relative to the vehicle ahead (relative velocity) has been used and string stability analysis has been done based on the control law and constant time gap spacing policy, A validated multi-vehicle simulation package has been shown that the string stability analysis using the approximate model of the vehicle servo-loop which includes vehicle powertrain and brake control system dynamics is valid in the design of the SG cruise control law with guaranteed string stability.
In this study, a test bed for vehicle longitudinal control is developed using a chassis dynamometer and real time 3-D graphics. The proposed test bed system consists of a chassis dynamometer on which test vehicle can run longitudinally, a video system that shows virtual driver view, and computers that control the test vehicle and realize the real time 3-D graphics. The purpose of the proposed system is to test vehicle longitudinal control and warning algorithms such as Adaptive Cruise Control(ACC), stop and go systems, and collision warning systems. For acceleration and deceleration situations which only need throttle movements, a vehicle longitudinal spacing control algorithm has been tested on the test bed. The spacing control algorithm has been designed based on sliding mode control and road grade estimation scheme which utilizes the vehicle engine torque map and gear shift information.

Page-oriented holographic data storage (HDS) is very sensitive to the disturbances. However, vibration effect by disc imbalance can be ignored because data pages are recorded and retrieved with stop-go rotation. Therefore, just estimating de-track due to eccentricity of disc is enough to construct stable track servo system. In this paper, propose the spacing of track servo patterns optimization method using Least Mean Square (LMS) estimation algorithm. Through the patterns spacing optimization, storage density maximize can be achieved.
This research was conducted to propose the design methodologies of post-tensioned concrete pavements (PTCPs) for specialized section pavements. The specialized sections considered in this study included bus stop sections in urban bus-only lanes and culvert existing highway sections that often showed severe failures. The PTCP designs of those specialized sections were performed based on both the stresses and the fatigue failures, and more conservative design results were selected. In the stress based design, the maximum tensile stress under extreme load conditions was obtained using finite element analyses first. Then, the number of tendons and the tendon spacing were determined so that the tensile stress was less than the allowable flexural strength. The AASHTO fatigue failure equations were used in the fatigue failure based design. From this study, the design methodologies of PTCP for bus stop sections in bus-only lanes and culvert existing highway sections were successfully suggested.
In hard disk drives as the head to disk spacing continues to decrease to facilitate recording densities, slider disk interactions have become much more severe due to direct contact of head and disk surfaces in both start/stop and flying cases. The slider disk interaction in CSS (contact-start-stop) mode is an important source of particle generation and tribocharge build-up. The tribocharge build-up in the slider disk interface can cause ESD (electrostatic discharge) damage. In turn, ESD can cause severe melting damage to MR or GMR heads. The spindle speed of typical hard disk drives has increased in recent years from 5400 rpm to 15000 rpm and even higher speeds are anticipated in the near future. And the increasing disk velocity leads to increasing disk acceleration and this might affect the tribocharging phenomena of the slider/disk interface. We investigated the tribocurrent/voltage build-up generated in HDD, operating at increasing disk accelerations. In addition, we examined the effects with relative humidity conditions and rest time. We found that the tribocurrent/voltage was generated during pico-slider/disk interaction and its level was about $3\sim16pA$ and $0.1\sim0.3V$, respectively. Tribocurrent/voltage build-up was reduced with increasing disk acceleration. Higher humidity conditions $(75\sim80%)$ produced lower levels tribovoltage/current. Therefore, a higher tribocharge is expected at a lower disk acceleration and lower relative humidity condition. Rest time affected the charge build-up at the slider-disk interface. The degree of tribocharge build-up increased with increasing rest time.
Using computer-aided design and manufacturing technique improve quality of treatment in many aspect. This case reports the complete mouth rehabilitation of a patient with amelogenesis imperfecta utilizing digital technology. Clinical examination revealed loss of mastication due to insufficient occlusal stop, missing teeth, interdental spacing due to microdontia, insufficient overbite, and etc. Full veneer crowns for teeth were selected, followed by a fixed partial denture and implant placement was done using CAD-CAM guide template with bone graft for partially edentulous space. Definitive restorations were duplicated by double scanning provisional restorations and successfully delivered to the patient. These full mouth rehabilitation procedures resulted in satisfactory outcomes for the patient functionally and aesthetically.
A terrestrial LiDAR was used to acquire precise and high-resolution topographical information of Malipo beach, Korea. Terrestrial LiDAR and RTK-DGPS (VRS) were mounted on top of a survey vehicle and used to scan 20 times stop-and-go method with 250 m spacing intervals at ebb tides. In total, 7 measurements were made periodically from 2008 to 2009 and after each beach replenishment event. We carried out GIS-based 3D spatial analysis such as slope and volume calculations in order to assess topographical changes over time. In relation to beach replenishment, comparative analysis of each volume change revealed them to be similar. This result indicates that the terrestrial LiDAR measurements are accurate and can be used to analyze temporal topographical changes. In conclusion, the methodology employed in this study can be used efficiently to exercise coastal management through monitoring and analyzing beach process such as erosion and deposition.
This paper introduces a simulation study regarding the operation of the Painted Body Storage (PBS) in an automobile factory. In the paint shop of the factory, same colored bodies are grouped together in order to increase the effectiveness of process, for example decrease the loss of cleaning the painting-gun when the color of body changes from one to another. However the production of automobiles in the assembly shop is a typical example of the mixed model assembly production. Therefore PBS locates between the paint shop and the assembly shop for control the input sequence of bodies to the assembly shop, and it enables to meet the smoothing requirement of assembly sequence. There are highly restricted constraints on the assembly sequence in a assembly shop. Those are spacing restriction and smoothing restriction. If such restrictions are violated, conveyor-stop or utility work will be necessary. Thus the major objective of PBS is to control the assembly sequence in a way to meet the two restrictions. In this paper a case study of PBS in an automotive factory is introduced. The storage/retrieval algorithms are suggested and the proposed system is verified using simulation models. Sensitivity analysis for operating factors is also conducted.
The planning procedure of a transit operation consists of design, operation, and evaluation according to the research characteristics. There are some review studies on the operation and evaluation procedure, but the research on the design procedure has not yet been organized systematically. In this study, the research on transit system design was reviewed and the model structure and its solution method were arranged. The decision variables of the design procedure are network structure, line spacing or position, stop spacing, dispatching headway, and fleet size. In the analytical research on design procedure, system total cost is generally used as the objective function. System total cost is comprised of user cost, which is the sum of user access, waiting, and travel cost, and operating cost. Total cost of the transit system, used as the objective function, has the unique minimum because it is differentiable. There is a certain decision variable that makes the derivative of the objective function equal to zero and the second derivative of the objective function is positive. Therefore the decision variable that makes the first derivative of the objective function zero is the optimum that minimizes the objective function, and each of the cost components of the objective function become the same. This study is expected to help understanding about the research on the design procedure of transit operation planning and to help be a catalyst for relevant research.
