  • The production of the sharp-toothed eel by commercial catch off waters of Korea is annually declined after 1978. This study was carried out to obtain the stock management of the sharp-toothed eel using the PCR-aided RFLP method. The mtDNA COI gene was amplified using species-specific primers and PCR product was observed to 700 bp. Amplified DNA fragments were treated with six kinds of restriction enzymes (BaeHI, EcoRI, PstI, Ksp22, HinfI and HaeIII). The treatment of HaeIII showed a distinct PCR product between Yeosu/Jinhae/Jeju/Goseoung and Jangheung/Haenam populations that were observed from 300 to 400 bp in reference to 100 bp molecular marker. However, DNA fragment within populations had an identical pattern. The phylogenetic homology is 82% between two populations inferred from RFLP PCR product pattern using NTsysPC ver. 2.1. The use of HaeIII plays an important role in discriminating populations. It is thought that adults after over-wintering in the southern part of Jeju migrate to the Yeosu, Jinhae and Goseoung regions to spawn instead of to southwestern waters. Individuals within populations showed a relatively active genetic mixing and migration regardless of geography. However, the genetic ancestor of Jangheung and Haenam populations is appeared to be more adjacent to China or Japan than Jeju.

  • This study is an empirical research in order to clarify whether or not the correlation between the satisfaction of users that is the performance measurement factor and the following three:(1) the attitude of users as an individual characteristic, (2) the supports of organization as an organizational characteristic, (3) the routine degree of jobs as an job characteristic, is the same as the previous study results. In addition, another empirical research was done to make clear how organizational supports and routine degree change the attitude and satisfaction of users. This study put a particular emphasis on the moderating effect because the study of this issue has not been done in any previous research. 38 corporations, whose computerization has already been made to some extent and who are listed on the stock exchange market as a leader group, was selected for research, given some hypotheses on the basis of theoretical studies. As results of this empirical study, first, the supports of organization and the routine degree of jobs changed the attitude of users, which was the same as the previous studies. Moreover, the supports of organization, the routine degree of jobs and the attitude of users had an influence on the satisfaction of users. Second, in respect of the correlation between the attitude of users and the satisfaction of users, the routine degree of jobs showed a moderating effect, but the organization supports did not show any moderating effect.

  • For some decades eutrophication poses a great problem in water quality management in fresh-waters. To solve this problem, studies based on "bottom-up" hypothesis have been mostly carried out worldwidely unlike biomanipulation. This implies that not only fish but also fish stock playa key role down to other food web components in pelagic ecosystem. It is generally accepted that biomanipulation becomes a potent tool for eutrophication control. For a practical application of this, however, further development and understanding of the food web under the specific lake condition on a whole-lake scale are needed. The question is how can we maintain the positive effects resulted from biomanipulation (fortuitous or planned) for a long period.

  • The National Wealth Survey Method has been used to estimate capital stocks in Korea by the Korea National Statistical Office in every 10 years. However, this method requires huge amount of time and money, Since the Benchmark Year Method also has similar problems of difficulties to estimate the annual retirement rate and depreciation, the Korea National Statistical Office is now considered to adapt the Perpetual Inventory Method being used by the most OECD countries as an alternative. Hence, in this paper, the concepts of the Perpetual Inventory Method are introduced and its formation plans for the National Wealth Survey are suggested.

  • An explanatory survey was conducted to assess the contribution of palm species in carbon sequestration in the homegarden of the Sylhet Metropolitan City Corporation of Bangladesh. Assessment was done by means of two stage random sampling. A total of 10 housing area were selected randomly for the study and 4 common palm tree species were found abundantly. From the observations abundance of palm trees [Areca catechu (175/housing area), Cocos nucifera (145/housing area), Borassus flabellifer (124/housing area) and Phoenix sylvestris (27/housing area)] were found higher in all homesteads in comparison with other species. Study revealed that total organic carbon (MTOC mt/ha) was highest in Cocos nucifera (12.48 mt/ha), followed by Areca catechu (4.20 mt/ha), Borassus flabellifer (3.02 mt/ha) and Phoenix sylvestris (0.59 mt/ha). Total amount of organic carbon stored by palm trees in homestead areas was found 20.28 metric ton/ hector in the study area. Study revealed that palm trees of homestead forest accumulate a good amount of biomass and is a good sinker of organic carbon from the atmosphere. Proper management of palm trees will help to improve the local, national and international community through carbon sequestration.

  • A simplified framework for the probabilistic estimation of economic losses induced by the structural vulnerability in single-story and single-bay precast industrial buildings is presented. The simplifications introduced in the framework are oriented to the definition of an expeditious procedure adoptable by government agencies and insurance companies for preliminary risk assessment. The economic losses are evaluated considering seismic hazard, structural response, damage resulting from the structural vulnerability and only structural-vulnerability-induced e]conomic losses, i.e., structural repair or reconstruction costs (stock and flow costs) and content losses induced by structural collapse. The uncertainties associated with each step are accounted for via Monte Carlo simulations. The estimation results in a probabilistic description of the seismic risk of portal-like industrial buildings, expressed in terms of economic losses for each occurrence (i.e., seismic event) that owners (i.e., insured) and stakeholders can use to make risk management decisions. The outcome may also be useful for the definition of the insurance premiums and the evaluation of the risks and costs for the owner corresponding to the insurance industrial costs. A prototype of a precast concrete industrial building located in Mirandola, Italy, hit by the 2012 Emilia earthquake, is used as an example of the application of the procedure.

  • Although more interests are displayed concerning the business opportunities over the technologies developed in government-funded research centers or the universities, overall business performance does not meet the level of investment. As a consequence, it is hotly debated about stock investment for research enterprise and venture founded on the technologies of the government-funded research centers and the need and the required measures for the foundation of technology holding company that provides incubation service. This paper attempts to identify the critical success points in the foundation and the operation of technology holding company by observing the cases of overseas public research centers and to provide the future guide.

  • The paper examines the influence of corporate governance (CG) and earning quality (EQ) on corporate value (FV) of Vietnamese enterprises. The study uses GLS regression and linear structure model using data collected from companies listing on the stock market in Vietnam during 2008-2018, with a total of 2,937 observations. The research results indicate that EQ and CG represented by the Integrated Board of Directors and the Integrated Supervisory Board have a positive effect on FV directly and indirectly. The results show that the Integrated Board of Directors has a positive effect on EQ, whereas the Integrated Supervisory Board has a negative effect on EQ. Based on the research results, we suggest that companies need to strictly comply and implement GC, so to bring down the agency cost and consequently to increase performance. The companies also should establish the Board of Director of a proper size, with financial and accounting specialty, and including women board members. The government also needs to improve the management mechanism asking for firms to prepare and publish financial statements with reliable company information, which could be provided to users. These recommendations are a useful basis to help businesses improve FV via changes in the corporate governance factors in each enterprise.

  • This paper examines the impact of gender on access to debt finance among Vietnamese enterprises. The paper investigates data and variables retrieved from the World Bank Enterprise Survey dataset using five Probit models. The regression results suggest that there exist more unfavourable debt financing conditions for women-led firms (WLF), measured as a lower probability of having loan applications fully approved. Firm's age, working sector, and perception of access to finance as a difficulty are found to have explanatory power on the discrimination. More importantly, the perception of debt finance as a difficulty or firms' level of confidence significantly explains the variance of the dependent variable of probability of loan approval, or gender effect would be more pronounced if the firm already has a low level of confidence. The paper also contributes in testing for the gender effect on Vietnamese enterprises from different sectors and scale, unlike other prior research papers focusing on specific sectors and/or small and medium enterprises only. The findings are highly useful for Vietnamese credit institutions to set out a specific business policy to attract more WLFs and help promoting gender equality in the working environment, especially in debt financing, which is often neglected in existing regulation and policy frameworks.
