Volumetric Image System for High Efficiency Video Coding (고효율 비디오코딩을 위한 입체영상시스템)

  • Volumetric image system has many applications recently in education, 3D movie, medical images but these applications have several problems that need to be overcome. Volumetric display may process a amount of visual data and design the high efficient vision system for realtime display. In case of stereo system for volumetric display motion vectors, disparity vectors from the stereoscopic sequences and residual images with the reference images has been transmitted, and the stereoscopic sequences have been reconstructed at the receiver for volumetric display. So central issue for the design of efficient volumetric image system lies in selecting an appropriate stereo matching and robust vision system. In this paper, we proposed high efficient vision system, which design vision stage with rotating and moving horizontally, and match the successive stereo image efficiently. In experimental results with volumetric image system, the proposed method represents high efficiency with minimizing error and low computational load for volumetric display.

An effective indoor video surveillance system based on wide baseline cameras (Wide baseline 카메라 기반의 효과적인 실내공간 감시시스템)

  • The video surveillance system is adopted in many places due to its efficiency and constancy in monitoring a specific area over a long period of time. However, many surveillance systems composed of a single static camera often produce unsatisfactory results due to their lack of field of view. In this paper, we present a video surveillance system based on wide baseline stereo cameras to overcome the limitation. We adopt the codebook algorithm and mathematical morphology to robustly model the foreground pixels of the moving object in the scene and calculate the trajectory of the moving object via 3D reconstruction. The experimental results show that the proposed system detects a moving object and generates a top view trajectory successfully to track the location of the object in the world coordinates.

  • In this paper, we propose sharing 3D media between multisite using enhanced Access Grid (e-AG) which is a composition of 3D display and Access Grld (AG) Conventional AG and other collaborative systems have a limitation to share immersive 3D media Thus, proposed system supports sharing 3D media contents in a AG meeting section. Real object can be shared by acquiring stereo image with pre-calibrated stereo camera and by delivering, and virtual object can be shared by transmitting state information after downloading 3D model. And also, real video scene acquired by stereo camera and virtual object from 3D model can be displayed on the 3D display system of each node adaptively. The characteristics of proposed sharing method are sharing 3D media, displaying 3D media on a system adaptively, supporting real-time interaction. The proposed sharing method will be used remote lecture, remote collaboration with 3D media.

In this paper, we propose high efficient vision system with the reduction of rectification error which can perform the 3D data extraction efficiently with low computational complexity. In experimental results with proposed vision system, the proposed method can perform the 3D data extraction efficiently with reducing rectification error and low computational complexity.

  • As there is a growing tendency to represent the 3D content instead of the 2D content, researches for the stereoscopic image and video are under way in a variety of fields such as acquisition compression, transmission, authoring and display. The authoring technique for stereoscopic contents has given emphasis to virtual stereoscopic contents. Thus the authoring technique for stereoscopic pictures is insufficient. When we compose a stereo scene with stereoscopic pictures, stereoscopic contents may not match the stereo scene because each stereoscopic picture may have different camera condition. To solve this problem, stereoscopic pictures have been modified manually. It is a laborious work and will be spent much time. Also it is difficult for a user who does not have an elementary knowledge of stereopsis. In this paper, we propose the synthesis method to compose a natural stereo scene with stereoscopic still pictures and moving pictures. Experimental results show that the proposed method in this paper allows a user to synthesize stereoscopic contents easily and compose a stereo scene conveniently.

  • A HEVC-based scalable 3D video coding system is proposed. The proposed system supports scalable transmission of multiview video data with depth maps. Key technologies in this system are reference picture management, reference picture list construction, and cross-layer dependency signaling. All the proposed technologies are used for the development of video coding system for UHD stereo display and glassless 3D display.

Tracing of Moving Objects by Stereo Video Cameras (스테레오 비디오 카메라에 의한 운동물체의 위치추적)

  • While close range photogrammetry has been widely applied for static deformation analysis, video cameras have many characteristics that make them the sensors of choice for dynamic analysis of rapidly changing situations. They also have limitations. The aim of this research is to explore the potential of a video system for monitoring dynamic objects. A pilot system consists of two camcorders, VCR, and PC with frame grabber. To estimte the performance of this system for moving objects, a car was imaged covering several phases when starting to drive. The sequential images of a moving car were recorded on VCR. 15 images per second were digitized in an off-line mode by frame grabber. The image coordinates of targets attached to the rear bumper of a car were acquired by IDRISI, and the object coordinates were derived based on DLT. This research suggests that home video cameras, PC, and photogrammetric principles are promising tools for monitoring of the moving objects and vibrations as well as other time dependent situations.

Real-time Stereo Video Generation using Graphics Processing Unit (GPU를 이용한 실시간 양안식 영상 생성 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a fast depth-image-based rendering method to generate a virtual view image in real-time using a graphic processor unit (GPU) for a 3D broadcasting system. Before the transmission, we encode the input 2D+depth video using the H.264 coding standard. At the receiver, we decode the received bitstream and generate a stereo video using a GPU which can compute in parallel. In this paper, we apply a simple and efficient hole filling method to reduce the decoder complexity and reduce hole filling errors. Besides, we design a vertical parallel structure for a forward mapping process to take advantage of the single instruction multiple thread structure of GPU. We also utilize high speed GPU memories to boost the computation speed. As a result, we can generate virtual view images 15 times faster than the case of CPU-based processing.

Stereoscopic Video Display System Based on H.264/AVC (H.264/AVC 기반의 스테레오 영상 디스플레이 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose a real-time stereoscopic display system based on H.264/AVC. We initially acquire stereo-view images from stereo web-cam using OpenCV library. The captured images are converted to YUV 4:2:0 format as a preprocess. The input files are encoded by stereo-encoder, which has a proposed estimation structure, with more than 30 fps. The encoded bitstream are decoded by stereo-decoder reconstructing left and right images. The reconstructed stereo images are postprocessed by stereoscopic image synthesis technique to offer users more realistic images with 3D effect. Experimental results show that the proposed system has better encoding efficiency compared with using a conventional stereo CODEC(coder and decoder) and operates with real-time processing and low complexity suitable for an application with a mobile environment.

Stereo image compression based on error concealment for 3D television (3차원 텔레비전을 위한 에러 은닉 기반 스테레오 영상 압축)

  • This paper presents a stereo-based image compression and transmission system for 3D realistic television. In the proposed system, a disparity map is extracted from an input stereo image pair and the extracted disparity map and one of two input images are transmitted or stored at a local or remote site. However, correspondences can not be determined in occlusion areas. Thus, it is not easy to recover 3D information in such regions. In this paper, a reconstruction image compensation algorithm based on error block concealment and in-loop filtering is proposed to minimize the reconstruction error in generating stereo image pair. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is shown in term of objective accuracy of reconstruction image with several real stereo image pairs.
