  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore predictors of successful aging in older Korean women based on a recent mid-range nursing theory, the Successful Aging Theory (SAT). Methods: This study utilized a descriptive correlational design. The convenience sample was composed of 174 older women living in the community. Successful aging was measured using the Successful Aging Inventory (SAI). Transcendence was measured using the Self-transcendence Scale (STS). Adaptation was measured using the Coping behavior scale. Stepwise multiple regression was used to identify significant predictors of successful aging. Results: Transcendence, adaptation, and religion were shown to be predictive of successful aging. This regression model explained 56% of the variance in successful aging. The factor with the highest influence was transcendence which explained 52% of the variance. Conclusion: Gerotranscendence-promoting interventions can be an important consideration in caring for older Korean women. Adaptation and spirituality should be included in a holistic aging care.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine relationships among job satisfaction, job stress, and self-efficacy and to identify predicting factors on the job satisfaction among a general hospital nurses. Method: The subjects were 266 nurses working at C university hospital in G city. Data were collected using a self-reported questionnaires. The data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, & multiple stepwise regression by SPSS 12.0 program. Result: The job satisfaction indicated a significant relationship to self-efficacy (r=.310, p<.001) and work stress (r=-.273, p<.001) respectively. The powerful predictors of job satisfaction were general self-efficacy (22.6%), over ₩2,500,000 at monthly income (7.3%), job stress (4.9%), work period at present unit (2.6%), which explained 41.3% of total variance of job satisfaction. It has been confirmed that the regression equation model of this research may serve as a predictor of clinical nurses' job satisfaction. Conclusions: We need to develop self-efficacy promoting and stress relief program for clinical nurses in order to improve job satisfaction.

Method: Subjects included 143 Chinese students studying at a university located in J city of Chungbuk province in Korea, between September 4th to 20th 2010. Data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 18.0 version, using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson correlation coefficient and Stepwise multiple regression. Result: Acculturative stress correlated with social support and self-efficacy. Regression model of the factors that affect acculturative stress consisted of major GPA, self-efficacy and student satisfaction of studying in Korea, with factors explaining 17.6% of the results. Conclusions: The findings suggest that on the basis of the results of this study, more studies are needed to identify additional different factors that affect acculturative stress as well as to develop nursing intervention programs for physical and psychological support, to help students studying abroad to become acculturated and devote themselves to study their studies.

The questionnaires consisted of measurements of activities of daily living (ADL), social support and loneliness. Frequencies, percentages and means were used with Pearson correlation coefficients, t-test, ANOVA, and Scheffe test to analyze the data. The analysis was done with SPSS 12.0 Stepwise multiple regression was used to identify significant factors influencing loneliness in the elderly living in nursing homes. Results: Significant correlations were found between level of ADL and loneliness (r=-0.379, p<.001), support from friends and loneliness (r=-0.472, p<.001), and support from significant others and loneliness (r=-0.449, p<.001). Loneliness was significantly influenced by support from friends, ADL, and support from significant others. This regression model explained 29% of the variances in loneliness. Conclusion: The findings in this study suggest that improvement in support from friends and ADL can lead to a reduction in loneliness in the elderly living in nursing homes.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the critical thinking disposition, problem solving ability, and clinical competence of nursing students in a 4-year baccalaureate university program. Methods: In this study, a descriptive survey design was used with convenience sample of 228 nursing students at a University in Chungbuk Province. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple stepwise regression. Results: The mean scores for critical thinking disposition, problem solving ability, and clinical competence were at the intermediate level. Significant positive correlations among critical thinking disposition, problem solving ability, and clinical competence were found. The regression model explained 46.8% of clinical competence. Problem solving confidence was the most significant predictor of clinical competence, other variables were intellectual fairness, intellectual eagerness/curiosity, and prudence. Conclusion: The study findings suggest that nursing students with higher levels of critical thinking disposition and problem solving ability will have a higher level of clinical competence. Furthermore, problem solving confidence might be the most important predictor in clinical competence. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce the new teaching strategies in nursing education, strategies that will improve critical thinking disposition, problem solving ability, and clinical competence.

Factors influencing the HRQoL for women merchants included BMI (β=-.35, p<.001), subjective health status (β=.33, p<.001), and stress (β=-.18, p=.021). The explanation power of this regression model was 29.8% (F=5.51, p<.021). Conclusion: BMI, subjective health status, and stress affect the HRQoL of the subjects evaluated. Therefore, there is a need for health management programs that may decrease stress, control the BMI, and improve the subjective health status of women merchants at traditional markets.

Methods : Data were collected from 169 ICU nurses in tertiary general hospitals in Busan, South Korea, from July 27 to August 15, 2023, using a self-report questionnaire. After excluding 12 questionnaires with insufficient responses, 157 responses were analyzed. Descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis were employed. Results : Factors influencing nursing performance included clinical reasoning competence (β=.51, p <.001), hope as a subfactor of positive psychological capital (β=.31, p <.001), and the nursing foundations for quality of care in the nursing work environment (β=.21, p <.001). The explanatory power of the regression model was 62% (F=87.41, p <.001). Conclusion : The study underscores the importance of improving clinical reasoning competence among ICU nurses to enhance nursing performance and foster a hopeful attitude through reflective practices and personal growth. Organizational interventions, such as educational and psychological support programs, along with creating a supportive nursing environment, are crucial for improving nursing performance among intensive care unit nurses.
