In this paper, we propose a design method for the position and speed controller, current control of a Brushless Direct Current(BLDC) motor using back-stepping design techniques. Further, to stabilize the whole system, and proposes a method for setting the appropriate gain control to improve the tracking performance. By applying the proposed controller to 120W BLDC motors were tested for the ability to follow the position, velocity and current reference. Since the simulation results of the steady state error is within 1%, we were able to show the usefulness of the tracking performance of the proposed controller.

In this study, we tried to improve the thrust control performance through the thrust control combustion experiment of the hybrid rocket. We constructed the system which controls the oxidizer flow by combining a needle valve with a stepping motor and controlling the stepping motor drive according to the thrust control command order. Gas oxygen was used as the oxidizer for two different propellants, PE(Polyethylene), PC(Polycarbonate), respectively. To improve the slow response time and the oscillation phenomenon in the beginning stage of the thrust control combustion experiment, we measured and analyzed the change of the flow speed of the propellant pipe. The revised thrust control combustion experiment showed that the thrust was stably controlled with the margin or error from the thrust command within ${\pm}1$ N.
A Linear Stepping Motor(LSM) can operate open loop control mode similarly to a rotary stepping motor. The linear motion without any mechanical linkage in the LSM results in several advantages for precise positioning actuators. However, to realize the more stable and higher speed control without hunting, it is necessary to derive an equivalent circuit to explain the steady-state and transisent characteristics in order to find an adequate control rule for high performance control of the LSM. In this paper, magnetic equivalent circuit is obtained, based on the structure of the LSM, and then the electric equivalent circuit of the LSM is derived by solving equations for the magnetic equivalent circuit. The 1-step response characteristic of the LSM is analyzed by the ACSL with the voltage equations, the force equations, the force equations and the kinetic equation.

In this paper, studied on the one-chip design of low cost for the micro-stepping drive having 5-phase Pentagon Type winding. Micro-stepping method in order to eliminate effectively the resonant phenomena and to Increase the positional resolution. This paper proposed trapezoidal current wave- form for current control and provided design- method by using only one-chip of low cost. Therefore the drive will be simple and small size. Also the drive will have a lot of advantage at commercial business. Finally the above study has been implemented on the VHDL. Simulation has been performed to verify the PWM for micro-stepping drive.
The paper proposes the characteristic analysis method to consider the saturation of teeth and poles in the hybrid stepping motors. The proposed method is based on the equivalent magnetic circuit coupling with the finite element analysis. The equivalent magnetic circuit is used to analysis the characteristics of the hybrid stepping motors. And the FE analysis is used to compute the non-linear parameters included the equivalent magnetic circuit in the hybrid stepping motors. Simulation and experiment results show that the proposed technique is compared with the classical method.

Motor control requires robust and precise control performance even in the presence of errors in the mathematical model of the motor and disturbances acting on the motor. For robust and precise control, a disturbance observer was designed to estimate the load fluctuation and applied to a back-stepping controller designed as a nominal system. The control performance of the designed system was verified by applying it to the 120 [W] Brushless Direct Current Motor. As a result of the position control and speed control, the disturbance is overcome from the steady state error converges to zero, and asymptotically stable results can be confirmed.
In this paper, the driving systems of the Fiber Optic Gyrocompass absolutely required a constant speed and a precise position control with fine step angle, are presented. One of the proposed systems is a stepping motor system with microstep driver, another one is a DC servo motor. Experimental results indicate that a low cost and simple FOG driving system using a stepping motor is capable of a satisfactory operation.

High precision step motor using Terfenol-D linear actuators is proposed and its performance is tested. Four Terfenol-D linear actuators are set up perpendicular to the rotor and saw-tooth current signals are applied on the actuators. It was found that the rotation angle is increased as the excitation current, the inertia of the rotor, and the contact force between the rotor and the push device are increased. The rotation angle per step of $0.001^{\circ}$ and blocking torque of 0.2Nm are achieved. The effect of the time delay between the excitation signals is also investigated.

This study is focused on the design and performance test of an earthquake simulator using stepping motor. Stepping motor which controls the motion accurately with generated pulses is applied to the earthquake simulator. Earthquakes like El Centro and Taft are used as inputs to the earthquake simulator. First the number of pulses are calculated and sent to pulse generator, . Then the generator controls the simulator according to the pulse sings, It is shown that the measured signals from the simulator are in very good agreement with input signals of scale-downed earthquakes of El Centro and Taft. This simulator will be used for the experimental study of small-scaled building structures with tuned mass dampers under earthquakes.

This paper presents a shape design process of Claw-Poles Stepping Motor(CPSM) using Modified Magnetic Equivalent Circuit Method(MMEC). Because this motor is adopted on low power devices, the motor size is a very small type. But it have a very strong permanent magnet. So magnetic saturation effect happens on yoke teeth of CPSM. Also this magnetic saturation effect causes more leakage flux component between yoke tooth have another pole. In this motor type, it is essential to design a shape of yoke teeth for avoiding the magnetic saturation effect and the leakage flux. In this paper, MMEC including the magnetic saturation effect and the leakage flux component was used for design process. Comparing with data calculated by using the MMEC and results analyzed by 3-D FEM, it could be stated that the design process with MMEC was reasonable. Finally, the model has the optimized shape of yoke teeth was compared with a conventional model for no-load Back EMF and torque at steady-state operation.
