Analysis of Inverter-Fed Induction Motor Using F.E.M and Harmonic Equivalent Circuit (슬롯피치 경계 조건을 이용한 인버터 구동 유도 전동기의 회전자 등가회로 정수 추출 및 특성해석)

  • An inverter-fed induction is driven by a harmonic voltage source so that it is necessary to be analysed by time-stepping F.E.M. But it takes so long time that disadvantageous to design. This paper presents a simple analysis method for inverter-fed induction motor using FEM and harmonic equivalent circuit. First, the rotor bar resistance and the leakage reactance are determinated by FEA for 1 slot region in rotor to consider the skin effect and the saturation. Secondly, the characteristic of the motor is analyzed by the harmonic equivalent circuits consisting of the obtained parameters from the FEA. This method is carried out to analyze an induction motor driven by the sinusoidal voltage and the inverter. The results are verified by comparing with those of the time-step F.E.A and the experiment.

Speed Control of Induction Motor Systems by Design Method of Digital Servo System (디지탈 서보계 설계법에 의한 유도 전동기 시스템의 속도 제어)

  • The paper presents a digital speed control approach of induction motor systems by using a digital servo control method and a well-known second order differential equation as model. The basic concept of using the modeling equation stated in the above is induced from the control theory stand point such that we can describe usually the motor system connected by inverter, generator and load etc, just as a mechanical system to be controlled. The concept does not demand us the complicated vector-based modeling equation adopted in the traditional methods for the speed control of induction motor. Futhermore, the proposed speed control system can be treated as a single input and single output system. The effectiveness of the servo control system obtained by the above-mentioned design concept is illustrated by the experimental results in the presence of both step reference changes and load variations. It is observed from the experimental results that the steady state-error of the experimental set up becomes zero after some regulation time and the induction motor system is robust in spite of reference signal changes and load variations.

  • The paper presents a digital speed control approach of induction motor systems by using a digital redesign method and adopting a well known 2nd order model as the system model equation. The basic concept using the modeling equation is induced from the control theory stand point such that we can describe usually the motor system connected by inverter, generator and load etc. just as a mechanical system to be controlled. The concept does not demand us the complicated vector-based modeling equation adopted in the traditional methods for the speed control of induction motor. The effectiveness of the servo control system composed by the above mentioned design concept is illustrated by the experimental results in the presence of step reference change and generator load variation.   • A simple analysis method for inverter-fed induction motor using F.E.M and harmonic equivalent circuit is proposed. And an optimum shape of rotor slot for 2Hp inverter-fed induction motor is determined by combining the proposed analysis method and an optimization algorithm. Conjugate gradient method is used for the optimization algorithm. The optimization is performed for higher efficiency and reduction of harmonic loss in the inverter-fed induction motor. The optimization results are verified by comparing with those of the time-step F.E.A.

  • This paper studies on the noise reduction for a small automobile DC Motor (a window motor) using the 6 sigma process. The application of 6 sigma process suggested reliable and valuable statistical data for the quality of the DC motor at the production line. In the measurement step in 6 sigma process, the FMEA(Failure Mode Effect Analysis) were used for the detection of noise sources. The application of 6 sigma process gave not only the improving method for the quality of the DC motor but also the confidence of improvement itself since it was done on the basis of the test results for a number of DC motors at the production line. Consequently the 6 sigma process was proved very effective for the noise reduction at the production line.

  • Recently, the skeleton type 2-phase brushless DC motor has been used in electric home appliance for low price and low energy consumption. In this paper, we analyzed a skeleton type 2-phase BLDC motor using time-step finite element method. And the validity of analysis is confirmed by measuring the flux distribution on the surface of permanent magnet and back-EMF. As well, we have calculated the dynamic characteristics of target motor considering the Hall sensor position. So, we have found the optimum switching position, and improved efficiency of 2-phase BLDC motor.

  • In this paper, an efficient method of a hybrid stepping motor is proposed using permeance method. To be specific, hybrid stepping motor is modelled firstly as an equivalent nonlinear magnetic circuit including the saturation effects of iron parts, and then the static holding torque of the motor is calculated as a function of each design factor via Newton-Raphson's method. To show the validities of the proposed method, a prototype of hybrid stepping motor for 5 1/4 inches FDD header drive is made and tested in laboratory. As a result, the experimental data for the static holding torque is shown to be within 10% error compared with that of the simulated results.

  • The electric motor is essential to drive turbo machinery. In order to overcome the speed limitations of general motors, the inverter is used to perform high speed to tens of rpm. The high speed drives are widely used in many applications such as turbo blower, turbo centrifugal compressors, and pump using air bearing technique. Starting of high speed motor can cause step out, stall, oscillation of motor because the phase inductance is much smaller than that of ordinary motor. This paper studied on the starting characteristic of variable speed centrifugal chiller considering high speed motor characteristics. Finally, the superiority of the inverter is verified by experimental results.
