  • In this paper, a GNSS-based AGV system was designed, and steering tested on a golf cart using electric wires in order to confirm the control efficiency of the low speed vehicle which used only position information of GNSS. After analyzed the existing AGVs system, we developed controller and steering algorithm using GNSS based position information. To analyze the performance of the developed controller and steering algorithm, straight-type and circle-type trajectory test are executed. The results show that steering performance of GNSS-based AGV system is ${\pm}\;0.2m$ for a reference trajectory.

  • When an automatic course-keeping is concerned as is quite popular in modern navigation the closed-loop steering system consists of autopilot device power unit (or telemotor unit) steering gear magnetic or gyro compass and ship dynamics. The consideration of irregular disturbances to ship dyanmics and a few non-linear mechanisms involved in the system inevitably or artificially are known to be very important in properly evaluating or analyzing the automatic steering system. In the present study the mathematical model of each element of an automatic steering system is derived which takes account of a fex non-linear mechanisms. PD(Proportional-Derivative) controller and low-pass filter with a weather adjustment are adopted to modelling the characteristics of an autopilot. The calculation method of imposing irregular disturbances to ship dynamics is proposed where irregular disturbances implying irregular wave and the fluctuating component of wind. For he evaluation of automatic steering system of ships in the open seas an important term "performance index" is introduced from the viewpoint of energy saving which derived from the concept of energy loss on ship propulsion. Finally the present methods are applied to two typical types of ship ; an ore carrier and a fishing boat. The various effects of linear and/or non-linear control constants of autopilot on propulsive energy loss are investigated to validate and clarify the present smulation technique.

  • In this paper, we studied the steering performance of wheelset with primary suspension characteristics of railway vehicle. We carry out dynamic analysis and experimental study for the vehicle models which are different primary suspension characteristics. The steering angle of a vehicle model (Case 1) operating in domestic subway lines is insufficient compared with an objective steering angle for curved track. And the steering angle of a vehicle model (Case 2) with improved self-steering performance of wheelset is a little improved compare to previous vehicle model. But also Case 2 model is still insufficient compared with an objective steering angle and has its limit in steering performance. So to overcome this limit of steering performance of passive type railway vehicle, an active steering technology is being developed. In case of vehicle model with active steering system, the steering performance is improved remarkably compared to passive type vehicle model.

  • In order to optimize the operational safety and reliability of the upper launcher for the CFETR ECRH system, a design of the launcher based on the remote steering concept is currently being carried out for comparison with the front steering equivalent. This paper presents the remote steering system's conceptual design and simulation analysis. A Square Corrugated Waveguide (SCW) of 65 × 65 mm has been designed with an optimized length of 9.35 m. By changing the relative length of the waveguide, the transmission efficiency of the SCW is optimized within the range of steering angles ±12°. Different error factors are investigated in detail, and corresponding acceptable error ranges are provided. Considering these error factors and ignoring ohmic losses and thermal effects, the relative transmission efficiency of the SCW is estimated to be >98 % within the steering angle range. A matching steering unit for the SCW is designed, which consists of an ellipsoidal focusing mirror and a steerable flat mirror. The detailed design of the steerable mirror motion trajectory is presented. Also, the influence of the possible beam incident errors caused by the steering unit on the transmission efficiency is analyzed in detail.

  • In the vehicle steering system, we can consider two methods to steer the vehicle. One is a front wheel steering(FWS), the other is a four wheel steering(4WS). The four wheel steering method has been recently introduced to improve the steering performance. In this paper, we present a design of the four wheel steering controller. First, we constructed the neural network two degree of freedom PID controller to control the 4WS system. Then we compared the performance of conventional PID controller with our proposed controller in terms of yaw rate and side slip velocity. The computer simulation results show that 4WS system controlled by the proposed controller has well driving performances than the other.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate high technology adaptive driving controls, such as mini steering wheel-lever system and joystick system, for the people with physical disabilities in the driving simulator. Background: The drivers with severe physical disabilities have problems in operation of the motor vehicle because of reduced muscle strength and limited range of motion. Therefore, if the remote control system with driver-by-wire technology is used for adaptive driving controls for people with physical limitations, the disabled people can improve their quality of life by driving a motor vehicle. Method: We developed the remotely controlled driving simulator with drive-by-wire technology, e.g., mini steering wheel-lever system and joystick system, in order to evaluate driving performance in a safe environment for people with severe physical disabilities. STISim Drive 3 software was used for driving test and the customized Labview program was used in order to control the servomotors and the adaptive driving devices. Thirty subjects participated in the study to evaluate driving performance associated with three different driving controls: conventional driving control, mini steering wheel-lever controls and joystick controls. We analyzed the driving performance in three different courses: straight lane course for acceleration and braking performance, a curved course for steering performance, and intersections for coupled performance. Results: The mini steering wheel-lever system and joystick system developed in this study showed no significant statistical difference (p>0.05) compared to the conventional driving system in the acceleration performance (specified speed travel time, average speed when passing on the right), steering performance (lane departure at the slow curved road, high-speed curved road and the intersection), and braking performance (brake reaction time). However, conventional driving system showed significant statistical difference (p<0.05) compared to the mini steering wheel-lever system or joystick system in the heading angle of the vehicle at the completion point of intersection and the passing speed of the vehicle at left turning. Characteristics of the subjects were found to give a significant effect (p<0.05) on the driving performance, except for the braking reaction time (p>0.05). The subjects with physical disabilities showed a tendency of relatively slow acceleration (p<0.05) at the straight lane course and intersection. The steering performance and braking performance were confirmed that there was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) according to the characteristics of the subjects. Conclusion: The driving performance with mini steering wheel-lever system and joystick control system showed no significant statistical difference compared to conventional system in the driving simulator. Application: This study can be used to design primary controls with driver-by-wire technology for adaptive vehicle and to improve their community mobility for people with severe physical disabilities.

  • This paper deals with development of an autopilot system for leisure yacht based on NMEA 2000 network and android platform. The developed system can operate both for manual steering and automatic navigation mode. In automatic steering mode, after manipulation of commands which are NMEA 0183 sentences by android platform, the developed system translates and sends the packets through NMEA 2000 network. Then the controller which is connected to NMEA 2000 network receives the commands and controls the boat's rudder system automatically. The automatic steering mode is achieved by cooperation of two controllers; one for controlling the rudder system, and the other for controlling the vessel's heading. To control the vessel's rudder and heading angle two PID controllers are developed with an adjustable dead-band gain. Also, in order to eliminate the steady-state error occurred by applying dead-band, an integral controller which specifically supervises the system's behavior inside the dead-band area is developed. In this paper, at the first stage, simulations are accomplished using computer in order to examine the feasibility of the proposed based on simulation results. In the next step, the system on a real hydraulic steering model is implemented and at the end the performance examination by implementing it on a real boat and doing test navigation is executed.

  • Auto Pilot System is the device for course keeping or course altering to ship's steering system. The purpose of automatic steering system is to keep the ship's course stable with the minimum course and rudder angle. Recently, modem control theories are being used widely in analyzing and designing the ship system. Though P.I.D type auto pilots are widely used in ships, the stability and the adjusting meyhods are not clarified. In this paper the authors proposed auto pilot system with Fuzzy Logic Controller. In the fuzzy control the things that the actual operators of a steering wheel has acquired through their experience can be logically described by the Lingustic Control Rule. The characteristic of the control system were investi gated through the computer simulation results. it was found that the fuzzy logic control was more efficient than the conventional system.
