In this paper, dynamic performance of 4WD/4WS Electric-driven vehicles is investigated. A coupled dynamic model is introduced for longitudinal, lateral and yawing motion of 4WD/4WS vehicles. Based on the coupled model, dynamic performance is analyzed for steady-state steering, acceleration steering and brake steering, respectively. These non steady-state cornering analysis is important for non-paved road maneuvering, trajectory projection for armored vehicle and future AVCS(Advanced Vehicle Control System) technology. Simulation results are obtained based on a simulink module for the introduced model.
It is well known that most power steering systems obtain the power by a hydraulic mechanism. Therefore, it consumes more energy because the oil power should be sustained all the times. Recently, to solve this problem the Electric Power System(EPS) or Motor Driven Power System(MDPS) has widely equipped in passenger vehicles. In this research the concurrent simulation technique for an EPS system with MATLAB/SIMULINK and a full vehicle model has been developed. The dynamic responses of vehicle chassis and steering system are evaluated. Then, a full vehicle model interacted with EPS control is concurrently simulated with an impulsive steering wheel torque input to analyze the stability of 'free control' or hands free motion for SUV. This integrated method allows engineers to reduce the prototype testing cost and to shorten the developing period.
In this research, we are trying to research about hydraulic system design and vehicle dynamic modeling far the development of the tire roller. The reason why we would like develop it is that tire roller is one of the most useful machine for the road construction site and application other construction equipments. Here, we conceptualize the new hydraulic system and derive the equations of motion fur dynamic analysis and also investigate system modeling by using a DAQ board. We design the hydraulic circuit of steering and traction mechanism system. This design can be used to create virtual prototypes of construction equipment. So, we studied tire roller to integrate development technology. In system analysis, we formulate hydraulic traction system model and hydraulic steering system model. Also, we integrate DAQ system to acquire experimental results in real tire roller equipment.
For a driving vehicle, a self-excited vibration of a pair of steerable wheels about their steering axis accompanied by tramp is called shimmy. Shimmy is caused by the coupling effects of the complicated actions of wheel and tire and the tramp motion of front wheel axle. Because front axle is no longer used on passenger cars shimmy occurring is not considerable. But in commercial vehicles using front wheel axle suspension system shimmy should be considered in design process. In this paper, the model closed to a practical vehicle was developed to analyze the shimmy of a commercial vehicle, and the effects of various design parameters to shimmy were observed by dynamic simulation with multibody dynamics program, DADS. The validity of developed model and analysis results were verified by practical vehicle experiments.
In this research the Co-simulation technique for an electric power steering system with MATLAB/SIMULINK and a full vehicle model with ADAMS has been developed. The dynamic responses of vehicle chassis and steering system are evaluated. Then, a full vehicle model interacted with EPS control is concurrently simulated with an impulsive steering wheel torque input to analyze the stability of 'free control' or hands free motion for Sports Utility Vehicle. This integrated method allows engineers to reduce the prototype testing cost and to shorten the developing period.
The cam curve of a balance type vane pump consists usually of circular arcs and Archimedes' spirals. However, if they are connected directly together, the curve must have a few discontinuous points of the gradients and the motion of the vanes is no longer smooth. Designing data for an oil hydraulic vane pump used in power steering system were obtained by the acquisition of optimum cam profile data which can be available to reduce noises and vibrations through the minimization of cavitation with the improvement of suctional performance. The performance test is carried on the trial manufactures by measuring the volumetric and the mechanical efficiency. And from that result, maintaining the same characteristic as the conventional one in the relief pressure and noise level, the experimental pump discharges 0.7 $\ell$/min and shows nearly 3.5% enhancement in the total efficiency more than the conventional one.
In the turning maneuver of the vehicle, its motion is mainly dependent on the genuine steering characteristics in view of the directional stability for stable turning ability. The under steer vehicle has an ability to maintain its own directonal performance for unknown external disturbances to some extent. From a few years ago, in order to acquire the more enhanced handling performance, some types of four wheel steering vehicle were considered and constructed. And, various rear wheel control logics for external disturbances has not been suggested. For this reason, in this posed rear wheel control logic is based on the yaw rate feed back type and is slightly modified by an yaw rate tuning factor for more stable turning performance. And an external disturbance is defined as a motivation of the additional yaw rate in the center of gravity by an uncertain input. In this study, an external disturbance is applied to the vehicle as a form of the additional yawing moment. Finally, the proposed rear wheel control logic is tested on the multi-body analysis software(ADAMS). J-turn and double lane change test are performed for the validation of the control logic.
This paper presents a unified control algorithm of independent braking and steering for collision avoidance. The desired motion of the vehicle in the yaw plane is determined using the probabilistic risk assessment method based on target state estimation. For the purpose of coordinating the independent braking and steering, a non-linear vehicle model has been developed, which describes the vehicle dynamics in the yaw plane in both linear and extended non-linear ranges of handling. A control allocation algorithm determines the control inputs that minimize the difference between the desired and actual vehicle motions, while satisfying all actuator constraints. The performance of the proposed control algorithm has been investigated via computer simulations conducted using the vehicle dynamics software CARSIM and Matlab/Simulink.
As the occupant safety receives more attention from automobile industries. protection systems have been developed quite well. Developed protection systems must be evaluated through real tests in crash environment Since the real tests are extremely expensive. computer simulations are replaced for some prediction of the real test In the computer simulation. it is very crucial to express the real environment precisely in the modeling precess. The energy absorbing(EA) steering system has a very important rote in vehicle crashes because the occupant can hit the system directly. In this study. the EA steering system is modeled precisely. analyzed for the safely and designed by an optimization technology. First. the EA steering system is disassembled by parts and modeled by segments and joints. The segments are modeled by rigid bodies in motion and they have resistances in contact. Spring-damper elements and force-deflection curves are utilized to represent the joints. The body block test is cal lied out to validate. the modeling. When the test results are not enough for the detailed modeling. the differences between tests and simulations are minimized to calculate unknown parameters using optimization. The established model is applied to a crash simulation of a full-car model and tuned again. After the modeling is finished. components of the steering system are designed by an optimization algorithm. In the optimization process. the compound injury of a driver is defined and minimized to determine the chracteristics of the components. The second. order approximation algorithm has been adopted for the optimization.
