Autonomous agricultural machines that are operated in small-scale farmland frequently experience turning and changes in direction. Thus, unlike when they are operated in large-scale farmland, the steering control systems need to be controlled precisely so that travel errors can be minimized. This study aims to develop a control algorithm for improving the path tracking performance of a steering system by analyzing the effect of the setting of the waypoint, which serves as the reference point for steering when an autonomous agricultural machine moves along a path or a coordinate, on control errors. A simulation was performed by modeling a 26-hp tractor steering system and by applying the equations of motion of a tractor, with the use of a computer. Path tracking errors could be reduced using an algorithm which sets the waypoint for steering on a travel path depending on the radius of curvature of the path and which then controls the speed and steering angle of the vehicle, rather than by changing the steering speed or steering ratio which are dependent on mechanical performance.
This paper describes a vision-based line-tracking system for AGV and steering control scheme. For detect the guideline quickly and exactly, We use four line-points which complement and predict each other. This low-cost line-tracking system is efficiently using PC-based real-time vision processing, Steering control is studied through an steering controller with guide-line angle and line-point error. This method is tested via a typical AGV with a single camera in laboratory environment.

This paper presents a method to determine the rear steering angle in integrated chassis control with electronic stability control (ESC) and rear wheel steering (RWS). A control yaw moment needed to stabilize a vehicle should be distributed into the tire forces generated by the ESC and RWS. Weighted pseudo-inverse control allocation (WPCA) is adopted to determine the tire forces. Four methods are proposed to calculate the rear wheel steering angle. To validate the proposed methods, a simulation is performed using a vehicle simulation software package, CarSim. The simulation results show that the proposed method for determining the rear wheel steering angle improves the performance of the integrated chassis control.

Most power steering systems obtain the power by a hydraulic mechanism. Therefore, it consumes more energy because the oil power should be sustained all the times. Recently, to solve this problem the electric power system has been developed and become widely equipped in passenger vehicles. In this research the simulation integration technique for an electric power steering system with MATLAB/SIMULINK and a full vehicle model with ADAMS has been developed. A full vehicle model interacted with electronic control unit algorithm is concurrently simulated with an impulsive steering wheel torque input. The dynamic responses of vehicle chassis and steering system are evaluated. This integrated method allows engineers to reduce the prototype testing cost and to shorten the developing period.

An integrated front steering system and front brake system (FSFB) is developed to improve the stability and controllability of an SUV. The FSFB simultaneously controls the additional steering angle and front brake pressure. An active front steering system (AFS) and an active front brake system (AFB) are designed for comparison. The results show that the FSFB enhances the lateral stability and controllability regardless of road and running conditions compared to the AFS and AFB. As a result, the yaw rate of the SUV tracks the reference yaw rate, and the side slip angle decreases. In addition, brake pressure control is more effective than steering angle control in improving the stability and steerability of the SUV on a slippery road. However, this deteriorates comfort on dry or wet asphalt.
To improve the productivity in the harbor, successful development of an UCT(Unmanned Container Transporter) is needed. Well-designed steering and velocity control systems are the key factor for the development of the UCT. In this paper, a research concerning the achievement of the steering control is introduced. To get an information on the guide line that the UCT should track, the vision system is applied. By using neural network, proper steering angle is gotten fast with less influence of the image disturbance. A simulation based on the UCT kinematics is performed with the measured steering angle, and it shows satisfactory results.

Most of the work of construction equipment and agricultural machinery is done in off-road conditions. Autonomous driving required in these conditions uses GPS sensors, and PID controllers to control their speed and position. The hydrostatic steering, which is composed of a PSU, hydraulic hoses, and cylinders, rather than a mechanical coupling is used in these equipments. The PSU plays a key role in hydrostatic steering. Precise control of the position under various conditions requires detailed behavioral analysis of the basic components and operation. Two Gerotor PSU is now a commonly used safer option. The components of the PSU can be divided into mechanical and hydraulic actuating elements by its behavior. Since the system is combined by mechanical and hydraulic elements, the modelings are performed using Amesim, which is one of the most effective for the multi-domain dynamic system analysis. To confirm the validity of the model, input torque and pressures are checked with varying steering speed. The opening and the steering speed of normal and newly designed control valve set is investigated with the effect of centering spring force and friction. Finally, simulation results with fully detailed model with two gerotors are analyzed and compared with simple model.

The pivot steering of an individual wheel motor drive vehicle is an effective steering maneuver in the narrow road, but it has become a matter of concern that the torque input of each wheel is very difficult to determine. In this study, the independent yaw moment control was proposed for the smooth pivot steering control of an in-wheel drive vehicle. For this control method, the vertical forces of tires were estimated from the trailing arm dynamic model, and the yaw moments of individual wheels were calculated from the vehicle dynamic model. Dynamic simulation results showed that the independent yaw moment control was much more effective on the minimization of the instabilities of pivot steering in comparison with the conventional direct yaw moment control with yaw rate feedback.

Driving performance is affected by a steering mechanism and characteristics of the ground at off-road skateboarding. In order to drive on off-road, it is necessary off-road wheel and high performance steering mechanism to adapt on various configuration of the ground. In this paper, design factors are studied to affect to steering radius such as inclination angle of a king-bolt, distance of a wheel axle, and rolling angle of a deck plate. A steering system is adhered to inclination face of the deck plate. And, inclination angle is existed between the king-bolt and the flat face of the deck plate. Therefore, the wheel axle of the steering system can be steered by control of the rolling angle of the deck plate.

A beam steering system of X-band 2-D phased array antenna for radar application is developed. The beam steering system consists of real-time command generator, beam steering unit, control PCB of array module and power supply. It plays a role of beam steering and on-line check of phased array antenna. The performance of beam steering system is verified with pulse timing of current control in phase shifters and measurement of far-field of phased array antenna. The developed beam steering system offers basic technology to develop full-scale beam steering system of multi-function radar.
